The pottery course (17.-18.10. at 10-16.30) is for both beginners and those who have some experience. We will go through all as-pects of throwing including the correct way to prepare your clay, centering the clay and how to throw basic cylinders and other shapes. We will learn how to finish the pot, including decoration techniques, trimming excess clay and attaching handles. Sepa-rate charge for clay. 4.11. at 18.45-21.15 there is a short course on how to glaze your pots. We will use also wax resist technique. Glaze materials 5 euros / person.

This beginners’ course is planned for those interested in de-corative inlay wood-art. We will learn how to make pictures and decorative items by cutting and putting different pieces of wood beside each other. What do we need? A fretsaw, and some small pieces of wood veneers of different colors. Some other tools are available to use in the class free of charge! September 26: Introduction to intarsia, tools, making simple cuts on wood; September 27: Making your own fretwork portrait on wood; October 03: Making the cuts of your first marquetry project, sanding and finishing; October 04: Applying carving on marquetry projects to make intarsia. Irish dancing is known for its fast leg and foot movements, while upper body and arms are held largely stationary. Lively reels, jigs and hornpipes of the Irish traditional music define the rhythm of the dance. In this class you will learn beginners and primary level solo dances as well as céilí dances, which are traditional Irish group dances. Irish dancing is a great workout and it also improves core strength and carriage.

This course is a combination of self-study and face-to-face mee-tings with the teacher, either at the Adult Education Centre or over the Internet (via Skype or ACP). You will study the book ”Svenska i Finland, Nybörjarkurs, Del 1” and work individually with tasks based on the book on a platform called Fronter. The course is divided into modules according to the chapters in the book, with a face-to-face meeting with the teacher at the end of each module. Further you are entitled to guidance between the modules, max 90 minutes per module. The course starts with an introduction at the Adult Education Centre on Friday Sept. 18th 10:00-11:30 a.m. where you will be introduced to the platform. (Please note that it would be helpful for you to have a Swedish-speaking person who could act as a support person and help you with your homework.

FinTandemVasa Arbis and the Adult Education Centre of Korsholm offer in cooperation language learn-ing through the tandem method. Practice Finnish, Swedish or other languages through communi-cation with a native speaker. In exchange you teach your mother tongue to your tandem partner.

During the school year we offer five gatherings for all participants at Vasa Arbis and the Adult Education Centre of Korsholm. Rest of the learning process is based on meetings with the FinTandem partner.Gatherings at Vasa Arbis, Thursdays from 5 to 6.30 p.m. on Sept 24, Nov 26 and Jan 14. gatherings at the Adult Education Centre of Korsholm, Thursdays March 10 and May 12 from 5 to 6.30 p.m. Coordinators Marika Boström and Leena Havu-Erhie. Employees at the municipalities of Vaasa and Mustasaari are offered FinTandem as further training (Finnish and Swed-ish) and students from different educational institutions can put participation in FinTandem down to their credits. Registration starts on the FinTandem website www. fintandem.fi from Aug 20 and we try then to find a suitable partner for you. Applications are accepted throughout the school year. Course fee: 25 € you will pay after you have got a FinTandem partner.
