What is my passion?

If you are unsure and just want to start small, then a short course could be an option, and could count towards your final qualification. Or if you want to jump straight in, then the best value for your time and money would be the Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy). This course is also widely accepted by health insurance funds, which helps you to achieve financial success. It covers nutrition, massage, homoeopathy and herbal medicine, giving you a broad range of knowledge, and the flexibility to specialise later. All Paramount courses are designed with these in mind.

Do I have to do exams?

Paramount College of Natural Medicine delivers qualifications in both the higher education (HE) and vocational education and training (VET) sectors. In HE, examinations are required, but usually only comprise a weighting of 40% of the final mark for the subject; the balance is completed by project work. In VET, assessments are competency based, and include a variety of assessments, such as short answer tests, written assignments and practical demonstrations. When a unit of study sits in both sectors, the HE requirements will take precedence.

What about further qualifications?

Our qualifications provide opportunities for further study, both internally and externally. Our Certificate IV and, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses will be recognised by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)across Australia and can also provide credit points towards the Bachelor courses at Paramount College and Charles Sturt University; Advanced Diploma students may also have dual enrolments at Paramount College in the Bachelor stream. Edith Cowan University and Charles Sturt also have Master degree programmes for which Paramount graduates may apply.

Can I afford it?

YES! The current price of each qualification is clearly stated on our website, and our tuition fees are very competitive. We are an approved VET FEE-HELP and FEE-HELP provider, and so eligible students can defer their tuition fees on most subjects in accordance with the Higher Education Act 2003. Students can also choose to pay their fees by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, and MasterCard and Visa. We also structure our timetable to enable students to work or manage other responsibilities they may have.

Men and women from all walks of life decide to take the road to natural health“ ”03

”Paramount College of Natural Medicine

will support you on your learning journey“ Modes of Study and Availability of Qualifications

Bachelor of Health Science Courses

In order to complete a Bachelor of Health Science in the designated three years, you will need to attend classes full-time (plus clinic and electives when appropriate). You may also study the course part-time up to a maximum period of 8 years. Students receiving government income support will need to check with Centrelink to ensure that they comply with the regulations to continue to receive this assistance should they choose to study part-time. As a guideline, students are considered full time, as long as they are undertaking 75% or more of a ‘full time’ workload.

Our programme has been developed to be delivered on campus. Currently approximately 50% of our units of study may be studied online or by correspondence; however, Paramount College will continue to expand the selection of online units of study that may be taken. Student internship, or clinical practicum, is not available online.

Where possible, Paramount College organises student timetables to optimise learning and minimise travel time; this enables students to structure their self directed study and extracurricular lives to accommodate part time employment, child care, etc.

Advanced Diploma Courses

In order to complete an Advanced Diploma course in the designated three years, you will need to attend classes full-time (plus clinic and electives when appropriate), or the equivalent part-time. Electives

Most qualifications also require a minimum number of elective courses to be completed, to provide you the opportunity to customise your repertoire of skills or perhaps deepen your learning in your preferred subject. Many of our courses can be undertaken as electives, for general interest or to further develop your education and satisfy the continued professional education requirements of your new career in natural medicine. The following list is a sample of the diverse range of subjects you could consider doing, either before, during or after your formal study:

Extended Qualification

All of our courses provide a strong basis for further studies, and additional qualifications can be added with a minimum of additional time and cost; for example, it is possible to commence study in a Bachelor Degree of Health Science (Naturopathy), and add five additional units of study to graduate with two qualifications, being the original Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), and an additional Bachelor of Health Science (Western Herbal Medicine). Similarly, you may complete a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice, and then decide to continue your studies; your core subjects can be credited towards a Diploma of Remedial Massage. Certain units of study may even be credited towards your Bachelor of Health Science. This structure gives you total flexibility in your career path and ensures you do not waste your valuable time and money with studies that may not lead to accredited qualifications. Even completion of our short courses, including electives, may be credited towards your final goal.

Bridging Courses

To assist our students to succeed in their studies, some bridging courses are offered by Paramount College of Natural Medicine. Basic Anatomy & Physiology (BAP) and Basic Chemistry (BAC) are obligatory for students who have not completed Year 12 Human Biology or Chemistry respectively. They are also optional for students who are returning to study, or who may not feel confident in science subjects. The courses are structured in such a way as to assume no existing knowledge before you commence. Pre-requisite studies for each unit of study or elective are available from our administration office.

Paramount College’s Advanced Diploma students are also eligible to enrol for tandem admission into the five Bachelor of Health Science programmes at Paramount College of Natural Medicine in Perth, Western Australia. Advanced Diploma graduates may also enrol in the Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, Australia. Based on this assessment, graduates can formulate and negotiate compatible, highly customised treatment protocols for health management.

Graduate Skills

Upon completion of this course, the graduate homoeopath will be equipped to practise autonomously in their own professional clinic or work within an established health care practice. They will be capable of integrating specialised homoeopathy knowledge and nutrition, with eligibility for professional membership of peak professional assocations, including the Australian Register of Homoeopaths, to become eligible for professional insurances, ensuring their professional status within the industry

Rules of Progression

Completion of ‘Provide first aid’ (HLTAID003) is required prior to admittance into Clinical Practice (student clinic); currency must be maintained whilst in student clinic and in order to graduate. Paramount College does not offer ‘Provide first aid’ (HLTAID003) as part of their study programme.

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCEMIND BODY MEDICINE (CSR1201477)

Course Overview

The Bachelor of Health Science in Mind Body Medicine was the first undergraduate qualification of its kind in the world. It is ground breaking and unique by both Australian and international standards. In the cultural diversity of the 21st century a new and wider vision of health is emerging which reflects the values and holistic paradigms of the past, while being underpinned by evidence based research. We believe that this holistic model will greatly enhance individual and community health outcomes globally.

Our comprehensive course provides the graduate holistic counsellor with a diverse range of knowledge and skills based on biological sciences, including anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and genetics. A wealth of traditional healing paradigms, conventional and holistic counselling, mindfulness including self compassion, hypnosis and neuro-linguistic re-programming, together with western, eastern and indigenous aspects of nutrition form the basis for these multicultural treatment protocols.

This qualification ensures graduates demonstrate the ability to analyse a client’s health status holistically, including current medical treatments and guide their clients into positive health and lifestyle management.

Graduate Skills

Upon completion of this 3 year Bachelor of Health Science Mind Body Medicine course, the graduate holistic counsellor will be equipped to practise autonomously in their own professional clinic or work within an established health care setting. The qualification also lends itself to work in the emerging field of ‘lifestyle or wellness’ coaching. Graduates will be eligible for professional membership of peak professional assocations, including the Australian Natural Therapists Association, to become eligible for professional insurances, ensuring their professional status within the industry
