Leadership and Management Development - bespoke/tailored support

360o Feedback using the Healthcare Leadership Model

360-degree feedback is a useful development tool. It helps you understand how

others interpret the behaviour you are exhibiting. It is not about your performance,

but very much more about other people's perception of your behaviour.

Gaining an understanding of how others view your behaviour is a good starting point

for understanding yourself better and, as a result, becoming more effective.

Reinforcing your effective behaviour, and adjusting any that others view less

favourably, helps you to improve your leadership and management skills.

The tool of choice within the NHS is the Healthcare Leadership Model.

http://www.leadershipacademy.nhs.uk/resources/healthcare-leadership-model/

The process is confidential and can be arranged following a discussion with a

member of the Corporate Training and Development team who can help you

establish whether this is the most suitable way to meet your development need.

Please contact Hasan Cagirtgan [email protected] or

[email protected] and a member of the team can facilitate the process.

You receive between 1- 2 hours of personalised feedback. This can be used as part

of an on-going coaching programme or as a standalone exercise.

Coaching

Coaching is one of the key approaches through which leadership in organisations can be developed. It’s a method of deploying techniques embedded in artful questioning and appreciative inquiry to help leaders unlock their full potential to achieve personal and professional success. Coaching can help achieve clarity and direction. Coaching is often perceived as the single most effective development intervention that a senior leader in the NHS can access.

Please contact [email protected] or

[email protected] who after a short discussion of your development

needs can sign post you to an internal or external coach based upon your

requirements.

23

Mentoring

Mentoring is very different to coaching in terms of intent. Support and guidance of a mentee is often led by a more experienced and skilled professional mentor, in order to support and expand the professional leadership development of the mentee, through effective transference of knowledge, skill and experience. It can lead to enhanced innovation and performance within organisations, fuelled by reflective practice, shared learning and improved ownership for solution focused thinking. Mentoring arrangements can often deliver improvements in an individual’s performance that lead to enhanced leadership maturity. Within St. George’s we are supporting our executive team and board to act as mentors to our senior leaders, following training and using a specific guidance. Please contact [email protected] or

[email protected] who after a short discussion of your development

needs can sign post you to an internal or external mentor based on your

requirements.

Using personality effectively in the workplace

Psychometric instruments can be used for such activities as:

Enhancing personal development

Identifying leadership style

Improving communication and

resolving conflict

Exploring problem solving and

learning styles

Developing effective teams

Understanding reactions to stress

and change

Career development

The process is confidential and can be arranged following a discussion with a

member of the team who can help you establish whether this is the most suitable

way to meet your development need and help determine the most suitable

instrument. Instruments measure different aspects of personality and can be used

on an individual basis or as part of group development.

Please contact Hasan Cagirtgan [email protected] who is trained

in the use of a range of psychometric instruments.

It will take about 30 minutes to complete a questionnaire and you will then receive

between 1- 2 hours of personalised feedback. This can be used as part of an on-

going coaching programme or as a stand-alone exercise.

NHS Leadership Academy

As part of Health Education England (HEE), the NHS Leadership Academy aims to

develop outstanding leadership in health, in order to improve people’s health and

their experiences of the NHS. We’ll aim to do this by:

Broadening, and where necessary changing, the range of leadership

behaviours people in the health system use

Professionalising leadership: raising the profile, performance and impact of

health system leaders, requiring and supporting them to demonstrate their fit

and proper readiness to carry out their leadership role and defining what we

expect from them

Working in partnership to make leadership in the health system more inclusive

and representative of the communities it serves

Developing leaders who are more innovative and can create a climate where

innovation can flourish

To help achieve this, the Academy provides targeted development for all

backgrounds and experiences. Turning to global experts to provide the incredible

content, they turn to you for the ambition, compassion and drive to continue

improving our healthcare system for the benefit of those that matter the most – our

patients.
