Grondbreakng reormsor NSW ElectonThe NSW Government recentl

    made grondbreakng and mportant

    reorms to Electoral Fndng and

Dsclosre laws n NSW. For the frst

tme, donatons and expendtrewll be capped. Donatons are also

    banned rom developers, tobacco

    companes and proft-drven lqor

    or gamblng bsness enttes.

    Premer Krstna Keneall and

    the NSW Government shold be

congratlated on these hstorcchanges to the electoral sstem.

    The reorms also have important

    implications or our country

    campaigns.

    These reorms ensure that our

    candidates in country electorates

    receive direct fnancial support to

    run their campaign. Candidates who

gain over 4% o the primary vote will

be entitled to be reimbursed 100%

or the frst $10,000 they spend, and

then 50% or the next $40,000 they

    spend. Total expenditure is capped

    at $100,000 per electorate.

    This means that our country

candidates will be entitled to a

    minimum o $10,000 in public

unding. This unding will be returned

    directly to our local campaigns

Party Ofce will not retain this

    money.

These reorms are an important step

    in increasing the transparency o

political donations. I am proud that

it is a Labor Government who has

continued the process o reorm in

    this important area.

I look orward to working with you

towards the next State Election, and

beyond. I wish you and your amilies

a very Merry Christmas and best

    wishes or 2011.
