Dear Parents / Carers,
OUR PREPS CELEBRATED 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL! CONGRATULATIONS!
SACRAMENT of Eucharist - GRADE 4 STUDENTS Our Grade 4 students will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Eucharist at 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday 14th August at St Andrew’s Church. A First Eucharist Preparation Session for all Candidates and their parents was held on Tuesday 26th July. Mrs Adamko facilitated a very informative and engaging evening along with the Middle Unit teachers. We wish to thank all First Eucharist candidates and parents for attending this very important meeting. I ask that you keep our Grade 4 students and their families in your prayers as they prepare for the reception of this very special sacrament. LEARNING COMMUNITY GROUPINGS 2017
Staff will be considering Learning Community groupings for 2017 during Terms 3 and 4. Your child’s teacher and all the teachers in your child’s level consult frequently about each individual child’s development, academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically. When placing your child into a new learning community, your child’s Learning Community Home Group teachers are the best people to place your child in a group that enhances your child’s learning.
Teachers know the children that work well together and those that may do better when placed apart. Teachers know the children who may need a special ‘friend’ in their learning community group. Teachers know students’ friendship groups. Parents can be invaluable supporters of teachers by ensuring as much information is shared with teachers as possible.
It is vital that any information about your child that you feel is important for teachers to know is communicated directly to your child’s teacher. This culmination of knowledge will be used to place your child in a Home Group for 2017. WEEKEND MAINTENANCE ROSTER
Weekend Maintenance is a feature of Corpus Christi School. All families make a commitment upon enrolment at Corpus Christi to be a part of this important program, which involves families working at school one weekend per year to maintain the beautiful grounds and facilities available to all in our community.
Thank you to all families who have made the time and effort to honour their commitment to this program so far this year. Your work is certainly noticed and makes a huge difference to our school. Well done!
We ask that all families attend on their allocated weekend, however, we do realise that family events may make it difficult to attend on occasion, so we ask that you contact, Mr Brett Walsh on mobile 0422 008 056 to arrange another suitable weekend.
Your ongoing support and commitment to this program is truly appreciated! Thank you!
Kind regards, Linda

PRAYER AND REFLECTION - EUCHARIST
Throughout the Gospels, it seems that many significant events and important teachings are set within the context of a meal. And so it is appropriate that our own most significant encounter with Jesus takes place in a meal setting as well — in the Eucharist. A look at the role that meals played in Jesus' life helps us recognize the significance of the Eucharistic meal for us today.
Reflecting on these stories in the Gospels helps us name some key themes that are to be present in our celebration of
Eucharist: the invitation to share in the life of Jesus through the Eucharist is open to us. The invitation requires a
response from us—not simply showing up but living lives that place our relationship with Jesus at the centre. Through the
Eucharistic meal, we are united in Jesus' death and Resurrection and sent to proclaim the reality of God's love for all
people in word and action.

EDUCATION IN FAITH
We pray for our students who will celebrate the
Sacrament of First Eucharist this month.
FIRST EUCHARIST The Sacrament of First Communion (Eucharist) will be celebrated by our Grade 4 students on August 14th at 1:00pm or 3:00pm. First Eucharist students will again celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation by attending either the 9:30am or 5:00pm Saturday 6th August or Saturday 13th celebration of this sacrament at St Andrew’s Church. This forms part of their First Eucharist preparation. Children will receive a card to take on the day for Father to sign and to return to school after they have celebrated Reconciliation
MIDDLE UNIT MASS will be celebrated on Thursday 18th August at 9:00am here at school. Our Middle unit families are warmly invited to be part of this liturgy which will in the Multi-Function Room. This will be just after the Grade 4 children will have celebrated their First Communion, so they will be able to receive Jesus through the bread and wine again on that day.
THANKYOU TO OUR JUNIOR Families who attended our Junior Faith Evening last night and Monday evening. We explored our images of God, created a prayer journal and also shared in a small prayer session.
OUR NEXT WHOLE SCHOOL LITURGY is the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Australia’s first Saint on this Friday the 5th August just before Assembly. Please come if you can. For the
morning session we will be at MacKillop College enjoying the special amusements they have kindly offered
us.
Thank you for your support.

PREP UNIT
You may have noticed last Friday in the Prep commu-nity there were a lot of people with grey hair. This is because the Prep children celebrated their 100th day of school! We dressed up as a 100 year old person and did a variety of different activities relating to the number 100. A special thank you to all the parents who worked hard at getting the great costumes together and ready for the day. The Preps have been counting from term one and have been eagerly waiting for this celebration. Congratulations Preps on your first 100 days of school! In Literacy, we will be exploring information texts about animals and gathering information about what animals need, what animals have (features), what animals are (mammals etc) and where animals live. In Numeracy, we will be exploring the concept of doubles and we will continue to explore the language behind addition (e.g. plus, makes and equals). St Mary MacKillop will be the continued focus of Religion. We will be learning about the Josephite symbol Mary MacKillop wore and where we can find this symbol in our school. The Preps will also complete a self-portrait of Mary MacKillop.
Yours in partnership, The prep team - Bernie Wall and
Laura Sgro
JUNIOR UNIT
We hope our Junior families enjoyed our Faith Evenings. This is a special time for the students and their families to connect, reflect and pray together. As students don’t cele-brate sacraments until the middle years, this is the Junior’s special way of celebrating their faith.
In Art, students are beginning to create a diorama of a habitat for their chosen animal. Students are focusing on different techniques to make their dioramas looks as effective and realistic as possible. This will be apart of their final product for their Inquiry topic this term. Please ensure your child has a small cardboard box to make their diorama from which can be passed on to home group teachers.
Olympics fever will hit Junior Learning Community next week. Without revealing too much, we have many exciting things planned.
Regards, Miss Jessica Padula,
Junior Unit Leader
SENIOR UNIT “The play ‘Return of the Bully’ showed us how to defend our-selves and stand up to a bully. The most important message was that you can’t stop a bully by being a bully! Fighting back by being physical never works. The best things the actor Poppy did was share her story with an adult the Sensei and not argue or react to the bully.”
Cori, Amelia, Renee, Ruby and Chloe (Senior Ware)
On our excursion to the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre, students explored how the legacy of Mary MacKillop and others that have worked to build the Catholic Church/ our faith was present in our Capital City. We visited St Mary of the Cross Square at ACU, her birth place and investigat-ed lots about the Sisters of St Joseph (Josephites) and their work in Australia and around the world. Ask your child to explain the Josephite Cross?
During the next coming weeks, we will begin workshops on fractions and decimals, explore various forms of poetry and be immersed in the world celebration (culture, history, geography, maths) of the ‘Olympic Games’ including a Corpus Christi Closing Ceremony.
Don’t forget the Personal Inquiry assignments will be showcased within our Senior Community as an Expo to the Corpus Christi Community on Thursday 4th August from 2:15pm to 4:00pm.
Regards, Leanne Spence, Senior Unit Leader
MIDDLE UNIT Over the next coming weeks during Reading workshops and writing, the Middle Community will analyse a range of information texts on other countries and cultures as students depth their knowledge and learning on a chosen country or culturally specific area. Their understandings will be built on further as we learn about other culture's activities when we visit CERES, next Tuesday. In Numeracy, students will link their learning about Mass to Volume and Capacity, using hands on materials. Students continue to understand how they can be the body of Christ in their world, as they come to understand the history of Eucharist, The Last Supper and what Eucharist in their life looks like. Also, a reminder that there are a few special and important dates to put on the calendar as part of our Middle community. Thurs 4th Aug - Eucharist families have a First Eucharist Family meeting at St. Andrew’s Church at 6:45pm with Father Frank and their Middle Unit teachers. Fri 5th Aug - Jeans for Genes Day and MacKil-lop's Feast Day Celebration Tues 9th Aug - Middle Unit Excursion to CERES Sun 14th Aug - is our First Eucharist celebrations at 1pm & 3pm.
Regards, Ms Kim Gleeson, Middle Unit Leader
