WHAT YOU TOLD US
The local community and stakeholders had their say on the Ballarat Line Upgrade last year and the information provided has shaped the design for the upgrade of Ballan Station.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU HOW THE STATION DESIGN CONSIDERS YOUR FEEDBACK
Access and connections
Easy and safe access for all people The new ramps, lifts and stairs will provide easy access to the platforms. The new forecourt on the north side of the station will be connected to the existing station via a wide, covered pedestrian footbridge. The station has been designed to be accessible for everyone, including the elderly, people travelling with children and those with wheelchairs and mobility aids.
Heritage and integration
New infrastructure such as overpasses and shelters should be integrated with the existing look and feel of the station
There will be no significant changes to the existing station building and other key features of the station such as the Walsh Street pine trees, which will be retained. The footbridge has been designed to fit in with existing heritage, while maximising views to the water tank, pine trees and district views beyond.
Safety and security
Well lit areas, more CCTV cameras and emergency assistance intercoms
CCTV cameras, lighting and emergency assistance intercoms have been included in the new station design. The overpass will be transparent and allows people to maintain visibility of the station and platforms while they cross, which increases safety at the station.
