Population by Age Group

• In 2020, the total population for the Corner Brook – Rocky Harbourregion was 46,239 (up from 46,049 in 2010).

• This represents an increase of less than +1% (190 people) from 2010 population estimates.

• The 2020 population was comprised of 51% female and 49% male.

• The population for this region is projected to increase by +1% (or 362) from 2020 to 2030, and then decrease by less than -1% between 2030 and 2040 (to 46,499).

Education: K-12 Enrolment

• Overall K-12 enrolment numbers decreased by -7% to 5,387 in 2019-20 (from 5,768 in 2014-15).

• Enrolment numbers for primary school showed a decrease of -3% (from 1,563 in 2014-15 to 1,509 in 2019-20).

• Senior High enrolment decreased by -11% from 2014-15 to 2019-20.

Education: Educational Attainment

• Educational attainment numbers (age 15 and older) for 2006 and 2016 show an increasing number of individuals in the region pursuing higher levels of education.

• There was a -28% decrease in those who never completed high school and a corresponding increase of +16% in the number completing high school. The percentage share with completed high school in 2016 was 26% while the percentage with less than high school was 24%.

• Those with college and university attainment saw increases of +38% and +19%, respectively. Those with apprenticeship/trade completion stayed roughly the same over the same time period.

• Note: Percentage of entire province with completed high school in 2020 is 20% and percentage with less than high school is 20%.

• The largest increase was in the number of non-permanent residents, which increased by +267% (from 45 people in 2011 to 165 in 2016).

• This indicates a rise in the number of people who hold a temporary residence permit in the region (e.g., temporary foreign workers, students, visitors, etc.)

• The number of landed immigrants/permanent residents also increased, by +31%.

Interprovincial Workers

• The number of interprovincial workers who traveled out of province for employment in 2017 was -19% lower than in 2010.

• The greatest decreases in such workers between 2010 and 2017 were in the Territories (-35%), Alberta (-26%) and Atlantic Canada (-25%).
