Congrats to UCC Congratulations to UCC Senior footballers, manager Billy Morgan and his backroom team on winning the Centenary Sigerson Cup with victory over UUJ on Saturday, March 5 th . The win marks the end of a long wait as it is a first Sigerson title for the College since 1995. Tom Creedon Cup Congratulations to Nemo Rangers, who won the Tom

Creedon Cup Final recently, narrowly beating Grenagh

in Macroom. Our thanks to Macroom GAA for their

organisation of this competition, which is open to all

Intermediate and Premier Intermediate football clubs,

and which had twenty-two entries this year. We would

also like to express our appreciation to the Macroom

Bookshop, which sponsors the competition.

County PRO Gerard Lane and Marian Creedon Hegarty present the

Tom Creedon Cup to Nemo captain, Paul Brophy

Feile Peil na nÓg Coiste Féile Peil

Corcaigh has sought

the inclusion of

additional Cork teams

(boys) who had

indicated that they

wished to take part in

the Féile. To this end

we held a meeting

with Coiste Náisiúnta

in Croke Park on

Tuesday 1/3/11 and

our request has been

acceded to. Teams will

be grouped in six

divisions. Divisions 1

to 4 will comprise of

12 Cork teams and

Division 5 will

comprise of 8 Cork

Launch of U21 Football Championships

The launches of both the Munster and All-Ireland

Cadburys U21 Football Championships took place

recently.

Cork begin this year’s campaign with a semi-final

meeting with Waterford or Tipperary on March 23rd in

Dungarvan (if Waterford) or Páirc Uí Rinn (if Tipperary).

This year’s side will be captained by Aidan Walsh of

Kanturk, with Ciarán Sheehan (Eire Og) as vice-

captain.

Munster Council Convention The Annual Convention of Comhairle na Mumhan took

place recently at Ballykisteen House, Co. Tipperary.

There were two changes of officer, with Limerick’s Mike

Fitzgerald taking over from Michael Power, while Cork’s

Jim Forbes was succeeded as PRO by Ed Donnelly of

Tipperary.

PRO Training Seminar A very successful PRO Training Seminar was held in

Rochestown Park Hotel on March 5th, and our thanks to

all PROs who attended. Presentations were made by

County PRO Gerard Lane, Coiste na nOg PRO Cian

O'Brien on club websites, Oifigeach na Gaeilge Liam O

Laochdha on the use of Irish and Colm O'Connor of the

Irish Examiner on the media. Tracey Kennedy of the

County IT Committee spoke on Facebook and Twitter

while the guest speaker on the day was RTE's Ger

Canning, who gave a very entertaining address and

highlighted the importance of the role of the PRO.

County Board Report The County Board

Meeting of March 8th

heard that Rory Kiely

of Limerick had been

appointed President

of the Munster

Council for a 2-year

term. Marc Sheehan

was appointed

Cathaoirleach of

Coiste na nOg,

replacing Peter Hogan

who stepped down

recently.

The Cisteoir

announced that three

training sessions for

club Treasurers would

be run in April, and

Championship fixtures

were ratified and will

be available on

www.gaacork.ie as

soon as possible.

The next meeting of

the Board is on March

22nd.

Coaching Course There is a Foundation

Coaching Course

scheduled for Friday

25th and Saturday

26th March in Pairc Uí

Rinn.

The course will run as

follows:

Friday 7pm to 10pm

Saturday 10am to

4pm

The total cost of the

course is €20 per

person.

Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw Greyhound Spectacular

Congratulations to all the prizewinners at the recent

annual Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw Greyhound Spectacular at

Curraheen Park. The €1000 winners were as follows:

Cardiac Screening The GAA’s Medical

Scientific & Welfare

Committee have

updated their

position on cardiac

screening following

the completion of a

two-year research

programme in which

nearly 300 GAA

players were

examined in an

attempt to assess

the effectiveness of

various screening

methods.

Tadhg Crowley Cup Final Congratulations to Ballincollig, who won the Tadhg

Crowley Cup Final on Monday, March 7th, beating

O’Donovan Rossa 0-15 to 1-6 at their home ground in

Ballincollig. This concludes another very successful

staging of the competition, in which all 16 senior

football clubs participated this year.

County PRO Gerard Lane presents the Tadhg Crowley Cup to

Ballincollig captain Brendan Fitzgerald Youth Sports Award

Congratulations to Brendan O’Sullivan of Meelin, who

was recently presented with the inaugural Gresham

Metropole Hotel Youth Sports Award at a function at the

hotel. 19 year Brendan was one of four brothers who

helped Meelin claim the All-Ireland title this year. He

was joined at the lunch by his parents, some of his

team mates, the Lord Mayor, adjucating Committee and

County PRO Gerard Lane.
