LRBT SATELLITE CLINICS AT RURAL HEALTH CENTERS
We were able to add six satellite clinics to our network ofcommunity eye health centers during the last three months. Oneclinic was the added to the four that were being serviced earlierby Akora Khattak Hospital. These five clinics are being financiallysupported by Mr. Shan Al Ashary a committed and generousdonor. In addition, five new clinics were opened at the RuralHealth Centers in the periphery of our Mansehra Hospital whichwill go a long way in addressing minor eye ailments includingrefraction of visiting patients from the catchment area near theirplaces of residence. Those patients who require surgery or morecomplex treatment will be referred to our Mansehra Hospital.

Coping with the ever growingpatient volume
LRBT Odigram
The project is progressing well with about 75% work completein the main hospital building, doctors' residences and patientscanteen. Presently, plumbing, painting and flooring work is taking
place apart from the external work involving a drainage system,a retaining wall, pavements, boring for a water supply etc. A visitto the construction site was paid by the Director General PaRRSA,Government of Pakhtunkhwa. After a detailed briefing given tohim by the LRBT management team, he expressed full satisfactionwith the quality and pace of work being carried out. The hospitalis expected to complete by the end of the third quarter this year.This Project is being financed by PaRSSA for an amount of Rs. 58million while Mr. Usman Paracha is contributing Rs. 10 millionand Rs. 1 million has been contributed by Infaq Foundation.

Partnership Agreements
Successful completion of two major Partnershipprojects
1. National Rural Support Programme- Small Grantsa n d Am b a s s a d o r s p ro gra m ( N R S P- S G A F P )
LRBT was required to conduct 11,417 eye sight restoringPhaco emulsification cataract surgeries on poor females atseven of our hospitals. This project was completed withinthe stipulated period. During the course of the project, savingsin budgeted expenditure were achieved and US AID agreedto allow us to carry out an additional 705 surgeries whichwas completed towards the end of May.

2. Sindh GovernmentPrivate -Public PartnershipAgreement Phase III
An agreement was signed in March 2012 with the CommunityDevelopment Program, Planning and DevelopmentDepartment, Government of Sindh under which LRBTconducted cataract surgeries resulting in restoration of visionof 12,381 adults belonging to the Province of Sindh. ThisProject was successfully completed in June.
Launching of a freshPrivate-Public agreement withthe Government of Sindh Phase IV
Following the successful completion of the Private- Publicagreement Phase III conducted at four of our Hospitals inSindh, implementation on a new project began effective 1stJuly 2013 at five hospitals of Sindh under which we are tocarry out sight restoring cataract surgeries on 11, 894 poorblind people of Sindh. We have received the first tranche ofRs. 10.8 million so far. We expect to complete this programon schedule by the 30th April 2014.
Agreement with United Energy Pakistan Limited(UEPL) for provision of Opthalmic equipment forLRBT Hospital at Rashidabad
UEPL graciously agreed to fund the replacement of overageessential equipment at our Rashidabad Hospital at the costof Rs 3.75 million which will help in improving our servicedelivery to the poor people of the area. This is in addition toRs. 5.2 million provided by them for a similar exercise for ourTando Bago Hospital. We are grateful to UEPL for theircontinuous support to LRBT.
CONGRATULATIONS ONCOMPLETING EYE CARE TRAININGPROGRAMS1. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT:
a. DOCTORS QUALIFICATIONS
At present 36 FCPS and 4 MCPS trainees are undergoingpostgraduate training.
b. MICROSURGICAL TRAINING
Following doctors attended the microsurgical training at ourLahore Hospital:

2. TRAINING & DEVELOPMENTLRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine
Enrollment forms along with course fee of students undergoingtraining in Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic OperatingTheatre (OT) Technician & Refractionist Course having domicileof Sindh were submitted to the Sindh Medical Faculty forfurther process.
Previous batches of all the above courses have appeared intheir respective theory and viva examinations. Their resultsare expected soon.Coordination with Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) isin process for the purpose of enrollment of students havingdomicile of Punjab, KPK and Balochistan provinces in all theabove courses. It is expected that this process will completeshortly.
Refresher Courses
Refresher Courses for our existing staff have been planned innext quarter July-September 2013 at Korangi and MandraHospitals.
Mr. Muhammad Junaid from our Arifwala Hospital isundergoing initial CEHC training whereas Mr. Ijaz Ahmed fromour Mansehra Hospital has completed Satellite Eye Clinicstraining at Mandra Hospital.
Doctors Training Programmes
Dr. Kashif Iqbal of our Lahore Hospital was awarded a fellowshipby the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) for athree-month training period in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at TheLudwig-Boltzmann Institute for Retinology and BiomicroscopicLaser Surgery, Rudolf Foundation Clinic in Vienna, Austria from1st June 2013 to 31st August 2013.
Dr. M. Abdullah Khan and Ms. Sumaiya Hamid of our KorangiHospital attended 5 days training on Retinopathy ofPrematurity (ROP) at PCB Cell, Civil Hospital, Karachi from 15thto 19th April 2013.

Dr. Syed Fawad Rizvi from our Korangi Hospital was appointedas Examiner for Intermediate Module and MCPS(Ophthalmology) TOACS & Clinical Examination Mar-2013 atCPSP Karachi from 20th to 22nd June 2013 and as Assessorfor Theory Assessment FCPS-II (Vitreo Retinal Ophthalmology)Examination Mar-2013 at CPSP Karachi on 9th April 2013.Hewas also appointed as Internal Examiner for 3rd ProfessionalMBBS Annual Examination (Ophthalmology) 2012-13 at JinnahMedical College Hospital (JMCH) Karachi on 1st & 2nd April2013.
Dr. Shakir Zafar from our Korangi Hospital was appointed asExternal Examiner for Eye OSCE Examination at Aga KhanUniversity Hospital 8th June 2013.Earlier he appointed asAssessor for Theory Assessment MCPS (Ophthalmology)Examination Mar-2013 at CPSP Karachi on 16th April 2013.
4. WORKSHOPS

Dr. Khurram Azam Mirza from our Lahore Hospital participatedin the ESASO (European School for Advanced Studies inOphthalmology) Asia Post Graduate Programme-MedicalRetina Module on 20th & 21st May 2013 in Singapore.
Mr. M. Tahir Munawar and Dr. Mahwash Akhtar Khan from ourCentral Office and Korangi Hospital respectively attendedworkshop on “Quality Assurance of Key PerformanceIndicators” organized by Sightsavers on 21st May 2013 inIslamabad.
Dr. Saima Amin and Dr. Syed Asaad Mahmood attended skillsdevelopment workshops at CPSP.
5. CONFERENCES
Dr. Tariq Mehmood Qureshi and Dr. Jawad Bin Yamin Butt ofour Lahore Hospital were invited to participate as a facultymember in a meeting to advance the new treatment paradigmwith a focus on therapeutic success held in Singapore on 3rdMay 2013. A large number of Ophthalmologists and specialistswere also in attendance to explore the evolving therapeuticoptions to effectively control surgical complications and post-op visual acuity problems.
Dr. Mahwash Akhtar Khan from our Korangi Hospitalrepresented LRBT in a Program Review Meeting 2013 for“Health System Strengthening by Integrating Primary Eye Careinto PHC Reforms 2011-13” organized by PCB Cell, Civil Hospital,Karachi at Hotel Regent Plaza on 26th April 2013.
Dr. Kashif Iqbal of our Lahore Hospital was invited as Guest Speaker by Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan (OSP) SahiwalBranch at its annual congress on 12th April 2013.

6. SEMINARS
Dr. Kashif Iqbal from our Lahore Hospital attended a symposium on “Imaging and Management Advances in Retinal Diseases” on11th May 2013 in Singapore.
7. RECOGNITION
• Government of Pakistan conferred the award of Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for Dr. Zaheer uddin Aqil Qazi of our Lahore Hospital in recognitionand acknowledgement of his services in the field of Health Services on 14th August 2012. Formal ceremony was held in GovernorHouse Punjab on 23rd March 2013. Honourable Governor of Punjab Makhdum Syed Ahmed Mahmud presented the award.
