When I was a child I started learning about the Cooperative

Program in Sunday School and in RAs. I learned that by giving

my offering to my church I not only gave to support my church,

but many mission efforts as well. My offering supported

missionaries in my state, my country, and across the world. My

offering also supported Baptist colleges and seminaries,

children’s homes, homes for the elderly, and many other

ministries.

Now, in your church life you will have similar opportunities to learn about the Cooperative

Program. Whether you are studying this material in Sunday School, GAs, RAs, Team Kid,

Awana or some other activity, you will be thrilled to learn how God will use your

Cooperative Program offering to touch the whole world.

As you complete the activities in this booklet, you will begin to learn what the Cooperative

Program is and how it works. I believe you will also understand how vital a tool the

Cooperative Program is in making sure that all people everywhere have the opportunity to

know our Lord Jesus.

May our Lord richly bless you as you complete the activities in this book and as you grow

in Him.

what is a missionary?Missionaries are people who share stories about Jesus. They usually go to schoolto learn all about the Bible and how to minister to people. They can work withpeople in another country, another state, their own state or in a local church.

what is the cooperative program? When we work together, we call this cooperation. The CooperativeProgram is where people, churches and states work together to providesupport for missionaries and ministries all over the world. It all starts inchurches just like yours – offerings and gifts given there help educatemissionaries, pay for them to have a place to sleep and food to eat duringtheir ministry, and have funds to minister.

who can help?Every single person – including you – in every church is important to theCooperative Program. When you make an offering to God, you are helping!

You are important to God and the Cooperative Program. Draw your face below.

international missionsInternational missionaries are people who go to countries other than their own toshare stories about Jesus. They go to school and learn about the Bible andpeople. If they are going to a country where people do not speak English, theygo to language school to learn to speak the language of the country where theyare going. When the missionaries can speak that language, they will not needan interpreter. Money is provided to the missionaries through the CooperativeProgram to buy food and pay for their house and plane trip.

Southern Baptist missionaries serve all over the world.Young children of missionariesusually go with their parents.Sometimes thecountry does nothave a collegeand the childrencome backto theUnited States to finishtheir education.

Some missionaries help feed the hungry and give them places to sleep.Full-time missionaries attend seminary, which is a school where theylearn more about the Bible and missions. College students can alsowork in the summer as missionaries. Money from the CooperativeProgram helps provide the theological education of

missionaries and pastors.

Your offering is very important to the Cooperative Program. It is usedto help people and teach them about Jesus.

how many words can youmake using the letters in“cooperative program”?

To the Parent

This activity book has been created to teach your child about missions and

missionaries. We hope that you will be able to share in this experience with

your child as he/she learns about missions.

Through the Cooperative Program, your church, association, the South

Carolina Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention partner

together to provide support for ministries and missionaries across the world.

This partnership begins with you, and people like you, through your offerings

to the church. A portion of your church’s annual budget is designated through

the Cooperative Program each year. A percentage of the Cooperative

Program gifts help ministries statewide. Another percentage is designated for

Southern Baptist missions across the nation and the world.

A special thanks to the Georgia Baptist Convention and theKentucky Baptist Convention, whose Children’s Activity Booksinspired the development of this one. © 2003 South Carolina Baptist Convention, Revised 2009
