ExpertiseSince 1965 we have specialized in the development and manufacture of high-quality control systems and components for the international lift industry. Kollmorgen products and services are in demand on an international basis. Over 85,000 control sys-tems installed throughout the world bear witness to our innovative strength, performance and mar-ket penetration.1980 saw the development and implementation of our first microprocessor controls. In 1994, we launched one of the first ever field bus control systems used within lift construction. 2001 saw the laying of our foundation stone for our own C.O.P. manufacturing facility. In 2006, LiftXpress, one of the first hall call destination control systems available free on the market was successfully presented, followed by the energy saving control system MPK Green in 2007.Active membership within all the major associa-tions - VDMA, VFA, ELA, LEIA, and NAEC ensure an ongoing close relationship within the industry, allowing us to influence the development of rele-vant standards and regulations.
Our Range of ServicesFrom a total of 5 control concepts, we are able to offer an appropriate, economical solution for almost every segment of the lift market. Our ‘MRL4’ control system is suitable for Machi-ne Room Less (MRL) lifts, and may be used with lifts from numerous manufacturers. ‘MPH4’ is suited to hydraulic single lifts and simple lift sys-tems with up to 8 stops. ‘MFE4’ boasts a modu-lar concept, consisting of MPK400 control plus associated KM600 DCP-based drive and is ide-ally suited to applications with limited machine room access.The more complex, specialist sector of the mar-ket is catered for by our custom range of con-trol systems, termed ‘MPC’. Here we develop, design and manufacture tailor-made lift control systems suited to the individual specifications of each customer. These include high-speed, high-rise group systems currently up to and including 5m/sec.
The hall call destination control system LiftXpress was engineered for group systems installed in high end buildings with high traffic volume. The new adaptive group algorithm can increase the lift transport capacity by up to 30%. The intelli-gent MPK Green energy saving and MPK IQ self-optimizing functions make the product portfolio even more competitive.
ComponentsAs a system provider we deliver a multitude of products - control electronics in switching ca-binets, pushes and/or car and landing stations, additionally the complete pre-wired shaft cabling with prefabricated suspension cable, plus associ-ated auto dialler. Full EN Conformance & plug-gable shaft lighting complete this technically competent & commercially viable package. Various retrofitting products conform to EN 81-80 for modernisation and our BlueKit® energy-efficient smoke and heat extraction-, cooling- and ventilation-System (EWAR) increases safety and helps to save energy.In addition, intelligent software packages for remote monitoring and servicing, Kollmorgen’s ‘lift attendant’ function and setup via laptop are also available. Our ‘one order, one contact, one delivery’ philosophy simplifies the entire pro-curement process and completes our control solution.

The system architecture of our lift control systems follows a decentralized concept and utilies the very latest state-of-the-art technology. The core of the computer system is centred on a Motorola high-performance processor. It communicates via a modern field bus system with intelligent modules within the lift car, additionally with peripheral com-ponents such as pushes, etc. Benefits are achieved from the 2-wire system employed, which enables fast and easy installation. Further time and cost sa-vings are achieved by the pluggable nature of this system. Controller set-up and adjustment from the lift car is also possible throughout the commissio-ning stage when using our ‘LHT-4’ Hand Terminal unit – a Lift Engineer’s dream!
Technology
Assembly and ComponentsThe assembly of our controls is either on a con-ventional base plate with cable trunking or on an aluminium profile with ‘comb’ wiring. Field wiring connection is situated on a terminal strip, clearly and concisely labelled and with colour coding. Only proven products from well-known & respected manufacturers are used in the production process. With our in-depth knowledge of control interfaces it is possible to integrate frequency converters from almost all manufacturers, as either recommended by Kollmorgen or specified by the customer. Only successfully tested & well-proven safety circuits and emergency lighting are used; those that have proven their worth over many years. The critical arrangement of each individual component is laid out within the controller to ensure optimum EMC performance, meeting all relevant standards. All controls are supplied in a painted control cabi-net to either Kollmorgen’s standard or customer’s individual specification. Intelligent interfaces in-tegrate our controls into a building management system, covering all the customers’ needs in this area.
We view the outstanding quality of our products as an important, long-term competitive factor. This attention to detail covers our entire scope of pro-ducts and services, beginning with high-quality consultation and by no means ending with after sales support. In the production process all proces-sors are tested thoroughly under extreme clima-tic conditions within heat chambers. Prior to and following this endurance test, all components are subjected to computer-aided functional tests. Eve-ry component is operated under simulated real-life conditions using a special test facility, in order to ensure fault-free operation in the field.
Quality
After Sales SupportNaturally, we are also on call for our customers following completion of the sale itself. Our Service Department is able to provide both telephone hot-line support and on-site support. Our Quality team manages the ongoing development and supply of comprehensive technical documentation for each control system supplied. This successfully provides our customers with full commissioning and main-tenance documentation, including EU Conformity Declaration Certificates from the German Techni-cal Supervisory Society (TÜV) for components such as safety modules, whenever this information is required.
Our proven training courses provide the option of either basic, advanced or individually tailored trai-ning, available from either our offices, alternatively, at the customer’s premises. Additional peace of mind is provided by a proven spare parts delive-ry service, also the ability to provide an in-house amendment service for wiring diagrams associated with any existing controllers undergoing an moder-nization upgrade.
