Short-Term Career Training Long-Term Rewards
Our short-term career programs are designed to provide new and/or upgrade current job-related skills. The
training consists of a series of courses that address skill competencies. These skill competencies will lead to a
third-party recognized credential. These short-term careers are available at an affordable fee or fee waived for

“Working Smart: Soft Skills for Workplace Success” was developed by the Charlotte Mecklenburg
Workforce Development Partners. It is designed to provide the work and life skills that enhance employee
productivity.
“Working Smart: Soft Skills for Workplace Success” is a five module, 16 lesson soft skills curriculum
taught over a minimum of 24 hours by a certified instructor.
Certified participants have successfully completed the following modules/lessons and are expected to show key competencies in all areas.

What is Mechatronics? This course introduces the synergistic integration and application of mechanical, electrical, electronic, robotic, and
computer engineering technologies, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), that are found within
production and manufacturing environments striving to improve and/or optimize efficiency, productivity, and
quality. Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the function of the components
of a mechatronic system, their controlling interactions, problem solving, and the overall operation of the
mechatronic control system.
The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
NCCER develops standardized construction and maintenance curriculum and assessments with portable
credentials. These credentials are tracked through NCCER’s registry that allows organizations and
companies to track the qualifications of their craft professionals and/or check the qualifications of
possible new hires.
NCCER offers curricula in over 70 different craft areas and more than 80 different assessments. When
you successfully complete training at Bladen Community College, an NCCER Accredited
Educational Facility, NCCER will record in the NCCER’s Registry System your completions and
issues the appropriate credentials. It is these portable, industry-recognized credentials that many
industry leaders look for when making employment decisions.

Property and Facility Maintenance Program
The “Property and Facility Maintenance Program” provides the skills necessary to begin
and carry to completion, effectively and efficiently, the maintenance, repair of a commercial
or residential property and any government or industry facility.
The class consist of the acquisition of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, drywall, HVAC
and other mechanical systems with the goal to repair or perform maintenance. The student
will be awarded a “Property and Facility Maintenance Certificate” from Bladen
Community College, upon a successful completion of the program.

NCCER credentialing courses
Human Services Exploration: DSS Caseworker
This 50 hour course covers skills and strategies designed to provide employability skills training and
career exploration for the role of Income Maintenance Caseworker within the Department of Social
Service (DSS).
Students will learn entry-level skills required to be a DSS Income Maintenance Worker, basic
computer and keyboarding skills, interviewing skills, resume writing skills, workplace success skills,
DSS and NCFast terminology, and FNS application in the NCFast system.

Certified Paralegal This course will provide the participants with the basic skills to assist attorneys in resolving lawsuits, investigate the
facts of a case, interview clients and witnesses, perform legal research, draft pleadings, including deposition notices,
subpoenas, motions, certifications, and briefs.
In addition, the participants will learn the fundaments of handling discovery, the dynamics of exchanging
information of a case between opposing parties, organize, manage files, documents, and exhibits. Students that
successfully complete the course will be awarded a Paralegal Studies Program Certificate, from Bladen
Community College. They will also be eligible to sit for the North Carolina Paralegal Certification Exam,

**Medical Billing and Coding—Medical Billing and Coding Part I is a prerequisite to Medical Billing and Coding Part-II.
No refunds will be issued for failure to meet all clinical requirements.
Certified Nurse Aide I
The Certified Nurse Aide I course introduces basic nursing skills required to provide care for patients, residents, or
clients in a healthcare setting. The course includes lecture, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon
completion of this course the student will have the necessary skills needed to take the state competency exam.

REQUIREMENTS: (1) Have a high school credential or be enrolled in a high school credential class at Bladen
Community College. (2) Complete immunization record (3-DTP, 2-MMR, Tuberculosis skin test within the past year,
and 1-Td booster within the past 10 years) (3) Health Physical (form will be supplied in class) (4) Pass Drug Test.
(5) Pass Criminal Background Check.
Certified Nurse Aide II
The Certified Nurse Aide II course provides training in select nursing skills. Emphasis is placed on sterile technique,
respiratory procedures, catheterization wound care, trach care, and ostomy care. The course includes lecture,
laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon successful completion of course and competency evaluation
students may apply to the North Carolina State Board of Nursing for certification. Students must register and pay $24
to list with the North Carolina Board of Nursing on the last day of the course. For additional information contact

about your business. Our professional staff will help
you find solutions to your challenging business
questions. No question is too simple or complicated.
There is no charge for this service.
Continuing Education Registration Fee Refunds
Unless otherwise required by law, community colleges shall not issue a registration fee refund using State funds except under the following
circumstances:
A college shall provide a 100 percent refund to the student if the student officially withdraws or is officially withdrawn by the college from the course section prior to the first course section meeting.
A college shall provide a 100 percent refund to the student if the college cancels the course section in which the student is registered.
After a regularly scheduled course section begins, the college shall provide a 75 percent refund upon the request of the student if the
student officially withdraws or is officially withdrawn by the college from the course section prior to or on the 10 percent point of the
scheduled hours of the course section. This sub-section applies to all course sections except those course sections that begin and end
on the same calendar day. Colleges shall not provide a student a refund using State funds after the start of a course section that begins
and ends on the same calendar day.
After a non-regularly scheduled course section begins, the college shall provide a 75 percent refund upon the request of the student if
the student withdraws or is withdrawn by the college from the course section prior to or on the 10th calendar day after the start of the
course section.
Please allow four to six weeks for refund.
Registration fees for self-supporting classes are non-refundable once the class begins.
Local fees, such as malpractice insurance, accident insurance, drug screen fees, criminal background check fees, and CPR card fees
are non-refundable once the class begins.
Class Cancellation Policy
Bladen Community College Continuing Education Division reserves the right to cancel classes/seminar/workshops due to insufficient pre-
registration and/or enrollment.
Debt to Bladen Community College must be paid prior to registration for courses.
