INTRODUCTION This UK Energy Industry Report takes a look at many aspects of how energy suppliers market their products including pricing, websites and social media. Innovative use of the Internet and Social Media has fostered a growing realisation that switching can result in considerable savings which has heralded an era of competition never seen before in the energy market. This report shines a spotlight on the relative performance of the energy suppliers over a number of performance measures and demonstrates the good and the bad. For many of our graphs and tables we have separated out the ‘Big 6’ and the challenger brands. The summary tables in our Energy Market Benchmarking report on page 44 illustrate this. We also look at the price comparison websites that were once considered consumers’ champions but are now being asked questions about the commission they are paid by energy suppliers. We are sure that such in-depth analysis of the UK energy industry has never been done before. REGIONAL TARIFF ANALYSIS Energy suppliers update their tariffs and range of products so frequently it’s sometimes difficult to keep track. In this report we have sought to provide a snapshot of the dual fuel, gas and electricity tariffs that are available in each of the PES/Distributor areas. The data is presented in two formats. SUMMARY BY TARIFF TYPE We have listed the cheapest tariff provided by each energy supplier in each of the PES/Distributor areas. This information is provided for dual fuel tariffs as well as gas and electricity tariffs individually. SUMMARY BY PES/DISTRIBUTOR AREA Again we compare dual fuel, gas and electricity tariffs but this time for each PES/Distributor area. We have also indicated in which quartile the energy supplier’s tariffs fall into in each area. Statistics recorded 23rd - 24th November 2015
