From the Desk Of Fr. John We are still in the process of containing a very deadly virus. We have been asked to keep ‘socially distanced’ from one another…(not within our own homes…of course). All for the purpose of keeping the chances of infection from spreading to our loved ones…friends and those most vulnerable. Thank you to all who have helped in this effort…and thanks to our service folks…stores…hospitals…police…etc.!! Thank you so much. However, we do not have to be isolated from each other…especially with all the electronic ways of keeping in touch. We have made ef-forts…thanks to several volunteers…who have given many hours of their time…to help us keep in touch as a praying community…with live streaming Mass on Wednesdays (Facebook) and weekend Mass on the website on Sunday mornings. We have been able to pray together through an online Rosary…computer or cell-phone connections…and information on-line with our bulletin. Thank you! We are making efforts to make sure our staff is OK…even with all the challenges that everyone is facing right now. We face the financial chal-lenges that every small business is facing with-out regular income. So…I reach out to you to help us meet our financial responsibilities…as best you can. Last Sunday we found ourselves behind closed doors with the disciples…and they were filled with fear…thinking that they might be next with the horrific death of Jesus on the cross. They had heard that the tomb was emp-ty…and a few of them had gone to look after Mary had told them that she thought someone had stolen the body…but they did not find the body of Jesus…but one of them began to be-lieve in an astonishing truth…that Jesus had ris-en from the dead. Then on the evening of that first day of the week…Jesus appears to those gathered…with a wonderful gift…a gift he had promised them at the Last Supper…something that is filled with joy and hope. Jesus greets them… ‘Peace be with you’…and shows them His wounds…it is really

the Lord risen from the dead. Jesus goes on to greet them again… ‘Peace be with you’…and says… ‘As the Father has sent me…so I send you.’ There is a mission connected to the Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus…a mis-sion for the newly formed community gifted with the Holy Spirit. We all have to stop and realize that we are the beneficiaries of this wonderful gift through Jesus pouring out the Spirit upon the Church. We need to learn more how to savor the gift and then to generously share it with others. This Sunday we hear proclaimed another ac-count of Jesus’ appearing to disciples and it begins with a journey of two of them leaving Jerusalem and returning home to Emmaus, which is recounted for us in the Gospel of Luke. These two men were very downcast and dis-couraged after all that had taken place over the last few days…ending with the death and burial of Jesus. Though some of the women had come to the group with a story about angels, saying the Jesus had risen and was alive. When Jesus appears to these two on the road…they do not recognize Him…and He engages them in a discussion, which touches on all the feelings…and events that have troubled them. He engages them where they are…in order to lead them to faith…and understanding. For them the Messiah was not supposed to suffer and die…rather to be a victorious leader. Now…Jesus instructs them in how to read and under-stand the plan of God revealed in the Law and the Prophets that would help them see where His suffering and death would lead to glory. They finally are able to share a meal together…and that is when Jesus is revealed to them in the ‘breaking of the bread’ (St. Luke’s favorite way of talking about the Eucharistic Meal). Our weekly Sunday Liturgy is structured in a similar way…Scripture and interpretation…then the recounting of Jesus passion, death, resurrection and ascen-sion during the Eucharistic Prayer…the ‘breaking of bread’ and sharing the body of the Risen Lord. This is the food that sustains us throughout our lives.

A Beacon of Light (ABL) Pregnancy Help Center in Maryville Illinois is seeking an Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have a Pro-Life heart and a genuine love and vision for a woman and family ex-periencing an unexpected pregnancy. Responsibili-

ties include organizing and directing daily tasks, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and promoting the Center and its ser-vices in the surrounding areas.

The leader we seek will have excellent oral, written and interper-sonal communication skills and the ability to be a team leader. Please contact Judi Schutzenhofer at 618-593-3622.

The Collinsville Food Pantry is continuing to operate during the pandemic. Our St. Vincent DePaul Society is closed and members are working with the Food Pantry, including taking over SVDPS clients. The Food Pantry has stopped receiving any donations from the com-munity to try and limit expo-sure and the passing of the virus on donated items. The Food Pantry requests only monetary donations so it can order in bulk directly from the warehouse to limit the number of people who come into contact with the food items. To donate go to https://collinsvillefoodpantry.org/ and scroll down until you see the DONATE button. Or you can always mail a check to Collins-ville Food Pantry, 201 E. Church, Collinsville, IL 62234. Pantry days are Tuesdays and Fridays, but patrons have been limited to once a month instead of twice to limit expo-sure. Patrons are not being allowed to shop. They give their name at the door and are handed their food through the door. Volunteers and employ-ees are limited to 10 per the rules. Between the employees and their regular volunteers, this has been adequate so far. The homeless people in town are being provided sack meals M-F at both the Township Of-fice and the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is providing sack meals to every patron and the number of people living in their home on pantry days.

Thank You from 40 Days for Life

We would like to thank everyone who came out to pray at the abortion facility in Granite City during our 40 Days for Life cam-paign. The spring campaign was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and the Governor’s Stay at Home order on March 21. In the confusion of the unfolding events and the uncertainty of the times ahead, God’s presence, strength, and faithfulness was clearly felt as you again said YES and continued to pray from home.

14 Babies were saved!

1. 480 hours of prayer were covered.

2. Over 1,200 people came to pray again!

3. One 40 Days for Life Banner caused 1 Letter to the Edi-tor and 4 rebuttals.

4. 1 abortion staff member quit.
