GROUP MEMBERS: Lydia, Brian

CASE STUDY BUILDING NAME: 1 TITLE BLOCK

List the types of information found in the title block on the floor plan page.

- Scale

- Project number

- Date

- Drawing number

- Drawing title

- Project name

- Firm in charge

Why might this information be important?

This is useful to know who created them, when they were created, who updated the drawings, and when they were updated

2 DRAWING CONTENT - PLANS

- What type of information is shown in this floor plan?

- section cuts

- material

- elements

- floor to ceiling level

- dimensions

- cross reference

- Provide an example of the dimensions as they appear on this floor plan? What units are used for the dimensions?

-width of decking

- mm (millimetres)

- Is there a grid? What system is used for identifying the grid lines?

-Yes, alphanumeric system

- Why is some information found in General Notes?

- To notify the architect for any discrepancies

- What is the purpose of the legend?

- To let people know what each symbol stands for

- Why are some parts of the drawing annotated? Illustrate how the annotations are associated with the relevant part of the drawing.

- to provide additional information

- further explain the plan

- annotations are placed next to drawings with an arrow

- Illustrate how the locations of sections are identified on the plan. What do these symbols mean?

- symbols which contain block reference and section sequential number

- Illustrate how references to other drawings are shown on the plan. What do these symbols mean?

- cross-referencing

- the symbols tell us to relate the section to a different plan

- How are windows and doors identified? Provide and example of each. Is there a rationale to their numbering? What do these numbers mean? Can you find the answer somewhere in the drawings?

- Windows are identified by the alphanumerical system of W/14 and the door is identified by the symbolic representation

- Numbers are for reference when they are being constructed

- In drawing no. A201

- Illustrate how floor levels are noted on the plan?

- They are noted using the symbolic representation of elements in the plan

- Are some areas of the drawing clouded? Why?

- yes, this is to represent the different elements used

3 DRAWING CONTENT – ELEVATIONS

- What type of information is shown in this elevation? How does it differ from the information shown on the plan?

- It shows the element of levels, gradients, and dimensional coordination. The information shown in this elevation represent different elements as compared to the plan.

- Are dimensions shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the plan? Provide an example of the dimensions as they relate to the elevation.

- Yes, only measures the distance along the floor plan Y –axis.

- What types of levels are shown on the elevations? Illustrate how levels are shown in relation to the elevation.

- Is there a grid? If so, how / where is it shown?

- Yes. The building zones are within the grid module. It is found on all the elevation plans.

- Is there a legend? What does it identify and how is it used?

- Yes

- To identify specific details of the floor plan such as locations of electrical appliances and gas outlets.

- What types of information on the elevations are expressed using words? Illustrate how this is done.

- FCL (Finished Ceiling Level)

- FFL (Finished Floor Level)

- Illustrate how the doors and windows are identified on the elevations.

- Are any parts of the elevation clouded? Why?

- To distinguish between the original elevation and proposed elevation

- Illustrate where this elevation is located in relation to the plan?

4 DRAWING CONTENT – SECTIONS

- What type of information is shown in this section? How does it differ from the information shown on the plan and elevation?

- Cutting plane is vertical instead of horizontal

- indicates height of each floor

- Are dimensions shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the elevation?

- What types of information on the sections are expressed using words? Illustrate how this is done.

- FFL (Finished Floor Level)

- FCL (Finished Ceiling Level)

- Illustrate how the section drawing differentiates between building elements that are cut through and those that are shown in elevation (beyond).

- Provide examples of how different materials are shown on the sections.

- Example: Concrete edge beam and Colorbond flat sheet on plywood substrate

- Materials used are stated

- Find where this section is located on the plans.

- A401, A402, A403

5 DRAWING CONTENT – DETAILS

- What sorts of things are detailed?

- Are the details compressed using break lines? Why?

- Provide examples of how different materials are shown on drawings at this scale.

- Find the locations of these details on the plans, elevations and sections.
