Welcome

New Temple Chambers is a Commercial, Chancery and

Construction set of Barristers’ chambers, providing

first class legal advice , drafting and advocacy in

construction adjudication. Chambers has significant

legal expertise in successfully representing parties in

Adjudication, in particular, in the resolution of

complex construction, engineering and infrastructure

disputes by construction adjudication whether under

standard forms of construction contracts (including

JCT, NEC3, ACA Partnering Contracts, GC Works) or

bespoke forms of contract.

Chambers provides expert legal advice, drafting and

advocacy in adjudication proceedings from inception

to completion in all construction, engineering and

infrastructure disputes, including the enforcement of

Adjudicator’s decisions in the High Court (Technology

and Construction Court). This involves an assessment

of the issues in dispute and setting out the overall

strategy to be adopted in order to ensure the best

possible outcome for clients.

Team

New Temple Chambers is led by the Head of

Chambers, Charles Edwards, who is a first class

Construction Law and Dispute Resolution Barrister,

an accredited TECBAR Adjudicator and a TECBAR

Dispute Board member on TECBAR’s panel of

Adjudicators and Dispute Boards. Charles has a

Master’s degree in Construction Law and Arbitration

from the Centre of Construction Law at King’s College

London and also a Master’s Degree from the

University of Cambridge (Departments of Engineering

and Architecture).

Instructing Chambers

Chambers accepts instructions from construction and

engineering organisations including contractors, sub-

contractors, employers, consulting engineers,

architects, investors, developers, local authorities,

government organisations, corporate clients and

international organisations. Chambers accepts

instructions from Solicitors as well as direct public

access instructions under the Public Access Scheme.

Construction Adjudication Experience

A selection of Charles’ previous Construction

Adjudication experience includes:

• Successfully acted for the Referring Party (a top 5 UK

Construction Company) in adjudication proceedings

against a large multi-national plc. This involved setting

out the overall legal strategy to be adopted based on a

sound understanding of the client’s objectives and

implementing the same in what proved to be a

successful adjudication. Issues in dispute included

breach of contract, interpretation of specifications,

non-payment, variations and damages.

• Successfully acted for the Responding Party (main

contractor) in adjudication proceedings in connection

with complex mechanical and electrical works, breach

of contract, non-payment, alleged variations,

extension of time issues, defective works and

damages.

• Successfully acted for the Referring Party in

connection with non-payment for a new building

project associated with the relocation of business

premises for the London 2012 Olympics in East

London.
