Construc)ng  Environments  Week  9  –  In  Detail  (Part  2)

The  Finished  Detail

Page 2: Constructing environments week 9

Interroga)on  of  the  Detailing  Decision  and  Purpose

•  Aids  the  construc)on  of  the  building  as  detailing  explains  how  the  elements  connect  to  one  another

•  Saves  )me  and  cost  for  the  construc)on  of  the  building

Page 3: Constructing environments week 9

Economic  Implica)ons  of  Decisions

•  Lower  cost  of  produc)on  of  this  building  as  materials  are  not  expensive  to  produce

•  Therefore  more  of  the  budget  can  be  used  to  buy  colorbond  products  (steel  products)

Sustainability  &  Environmental  Analysis

•  Carbon  Footprint    –  Slight  increase,  (produc)on  of  concrete  produces  rela)vely  lower  amount  of  CO2)  –  Concrete,  bricks  and  steel  are  the  main  materials  used

•  Embodied  Energy  –  Very  slight  increase  –  More  energy  efficient  in  produc)on  of  materials

•  Recyclability  –  Higher  possibility  of  recycling  the  materials  used

•  Environmental  Analysis  –  Water-‐harves)ng  roof  is  planned  to  be  installed  for  this  extension  –  Collec)ng  rainwater  can  help  reduce  rainwater  run-‐off,  hence  reducing  water  pollu)on  –  Saves  water  in  the  long  run

Page 5: Constructing environments week 9

Where  and  why  things  go  wrong

•  There  is  a  possibility  for  the  flow  of  rainwater  geUng  stuck

•  This  is  because  the  inclina)on  of  the  roof  is  not  high  enough

•  Cracks  in  the  guVer  could  happen,  causing  a  leaking  roof
