CONGRATULATIONSCLASS OF 2019
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Class of 2019 on their efforts and achievements. As a community we should be very proud of these young men who have worked with discipline and determination to realise their goals, which will carry them forward to the next exciting chapter of their lives.
Our 2019 Dux of VCE Ronan Oppy’s outstanding ATAR score of 99.25 is a wonderful reflection of his hard work and dedication. Ronan was offered a Monash Business School Scholars Scholarship where he will complete a double degree in Commerce and Finance. We are equally proud of our Dux of VCAL Claudio Caterino who is about to embark on a plumbing apprenticeship.
These two young men are representative of a group of students (the Class of 2019) who achieved outstanding results across a broad range of pathways. This is a great celebration of the diverse variety of opportunities which exist in the College which cater for the interests and aspirations of all our students.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported these young men over the last six years. These results reflect the collective efforts of many people; teachers, support staff, families and friends. We know that partnership and collaboration are two of the keys to success for our young men and, at Whitefriars, this element is quite apparent. In fact, I believe it is one of our strengths. So, as we celebrate and congratulate our fine young men, the graduating Class of 2019, we also pay tribute to all those who have walked the journey with them.
To each of our Year 12 students, I say well done. My prayer is that each of you find your way in the world as good citizens and good gentle men of Whitefriars College.

Ronan achieved an ATAR of 99.25 with his average Study Score being 44.16. In achieving this outstanding result Ronan studied six subjects. In 2018, as a Year 11 student, he studied Business Management and achieved a 46. In 2019, Ronan completed Religion and Society and achieved a perfect Study Score of 50, 46 for English, 45 for Accounting, 40 for Australian Politics and 35 for Mathematical Methods.
Ronan’s determination, perseverance and disciplined approach to study guaranteed his success academically but this did not limit his involvement in the opportunities Whitefriars provided. “For me Whitefriars encourages courage with consideration...courage to believe in the potential of who you can truly become - and considerate enough to know that what really matters is what you do with those gifts to help others in the College community in which you belong. For me, that’s the Carmelite spirit and it’s really cool.”
