Conference Spring Garden General Conference April 2012 The Idea: Explain to your children that we are happy when we choose to follow the prophet. This ‘Conference Garden’ will help to make sure we know what the prophets have said, and then help us to “pick” ways to follow what they have asked us to do. What To Do: For this Nursery/Sunbeam edition, create a row of “grass” along a wall in your home from green construction paper, scrapbook paper, etc by cutting fringe on one side. Also create a bunch of stems from the paper as well. Make them varying sizes and lengths, and then distribute them throughout the grass (and taped to the wall). {See example below.} Print out one copy of the Conference Flowers (one set per child and participating adult) and then when each of the pictured speakers gets up to speak, have your child find their flower and color it. (You may want to have them cut out ahead of time.) Then, after Conference (each session, after all sessions, or for FHE on Monday), you can discuss what the talks were about (use the flowers for reminders) as you put the flowers on the stems on the wall. Also discuss ways your family can implement that topic in your home and family life. Then, as you actually implement the lessons/topics in your life, “pick” the appropriate flower from your garden. Continue this until all the flowers have been picked. Some examples could include: If a talk was on service, pick that flower when you give service; For a talk on the temple, go to the temple-- by yourself, with your spouse, or better yet, take your whole family to the temple and if you have kids who aren’t old enough to go in, have a family picnic or something while you talk about the importance of the temple; Prayer—set a goal to have meaningful personal/family prayer everyday for a week; Missionary Work—give away a Book of Mormon, or invite a non-member family over for Family Night… You get the idea! The options are endless. (Side note: For my family, we had to spread this out over many FHE nights so it didn’t get to be too much for our young kids’ attention spans. There were also some talks that are hard to actually ‘measure’ a goal for, so we just took those down after we had a lesson on them.) The Goal: The hope is that by the time your family gets through all the flowers, each family member has been able to gain a greater appreciation for the words of the prophets and a stronger testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. Not to mention a greater feeling of peace in the home. FoodStorageAndBeyond.com

Conference Spring Garden General Conference April 2012

The Idea: Explain to your children that we are happy when we choose to follow the

prophet. This ‘Conference Garden’ will help to make sure we know what the prophets have said, and then help us to “pick” ways to follow what they have asked us to do.

What To Do: For this Nursery/Sunbeam edition, create a row of “grass” along a wall in your home from green construction paper, scrapbook paper, etc by cutting fringe on

one side. Also create a bunch of stems from the paper as well. Make them varying sizes and lengths, and then distribute them throughout the grass (and taped to the wall). {See

example below.} Print out one copy of the Conference Flowers (one set per child and participating adult)

and then when each of the pictured speakers gets up to speak, have your child find their flower and color it. (You may want to have them cut out ahead of time.)

Then, after Conference (each session, after all sessions, or for FHE on Monday), you can discuss what the talks were about (use the flowers for reminders) as you put the flowers

on the stems on the wall. Also discuss ways your family can implement that topic in your home and family life. Then, as you actually implement the lessons/topics in your life,

“pick” the appropriate flower from your garden. Continue this until all the flowers have been picked. Some examples could include:

If a talk was on service, pick that flower when you give service; For a talk on the temple, go to the temple-- by yourself, with your spouse, or better yet, take your whole family to the temple and if you have kids who aren’t old enough to go

in, have a family picnic or something while you talk about the importance of the temple; Prayer—set a goal to have meaningful personal/family prayer everyday for a week;

Missionary Work—give away a Book of Mormon, or invite a non-member family over for Family Night… You get the idea! The options are endless.

(Side note: For my family, we had to spread this out over many FHE nights so it didn’t get to be too much for our young kids’ attention spans. There were also some talks that are hard to actually ‘measure’ a goal for, so we just took those down after we had a lesson on them.)

The Goal: The hope is that by the time your family gets through all the flowers, each family member has been able to gain a greater appreciation for the words of the

prophets and a stronger testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. Not to mention a greater feeling of peace in the home.
