IntroductionGuangdong Province produce and supplies over 90% of soft landscape plant materials for both public and private Hong Kong planting contracts. However, the description of plant materials – trees, shrubs, groundcovers, bamboo, herbaceous plants etc. – are different between nursery industries in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong. There is a critical need to align the standards of regions for quality production of nursery stocks. The aim of this Project is to produce a common Specification standard from design to production and installation.

Our first forum held on 27th October 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel in Shenzhen was well attended. The second con-ference will be held on 23rd March 2019 at the 1804, 18/F, Tower 1, Admiralty Centre, 18 Harcourt Road, Admiral-ty, Hong Kong. During this conference we will present a preliminary proposal of standard plant classifications for nursery production to foster standards and quality of plant materials from source. The Conference is free of charge, and will be in the form of a workshop for participants to offer their valuable views and observations on the current specifications commonly used in Hong Kong, issues relating to plant material production qualities, and the proposed framework on plant size classifications and recommendations on modification to the currently used standards.
