Saturday the 9th of April was yet an-other great day for Paul Roos rugby. The school dominated the rugby scene at the annual interschools against
Grey High in PE once again, lo-sing only two games, the U/14As and
U/19Bs throughout the day.The Maroon Machine did PRG proud
at the first big home fixture of the sea-son and all spectators were treated to a nail-biting game between PRG 1st and Grey 1st. Paul Roos led for the major-ity of the game, but an unexpected late red card (against winger David Moses) left a strong possibility of Grey
scoring a last-minute victory. However, the Men in Maroon held
out to the last minute, winning con-
vincingly with a final score of 36-21.The tactical kicking and all-round
awesomeness of Damien Willemse, the Paul Roos’s SA Schools fly-half, played a crucial role in the Paul Roos’ victory, with stalwart Josh Vermeulen
covering from the back of the field. The entire school is looking forward
to the same ruthless vigour against Paarl Gym this weekend.

The Maroon Machine is in high gear after a successful weekend against Grey High School. The results pub-lished in this week's edition speak for themselves. Paul Roos followed David Lee Moses’ example and threw the knockout punch, sending Grey home on the bus licking their wounds with
their tails between their legs. Their dreams were shattered and
their hopes dashed, but they'll no doubt be waiting for us next year,
looking for revenge. Concipio has launched a new initia-
tive where a photo publication will be released on our
@semper_concipio_prg Instagram page. Keep an eye out for the photos, you might just be featured! The pub-lished photos are the work product of our school's fantastic photography team under the leadership of Thomas
Moss. The exams are looming in the dis-
tance like a thunderstorm and teach-ers and parents alike seem to be playing the weather man, intent on making us aware of the impending
storm. Like with storms, there gene-rally isn't much you can do to change the cerainty that the exams are upon
us. The fact of the matter is that no mat-
ter how much the weather man warns you about the storm, it's up to you to
grab an umbrella.

Flow of traffic on the school premises of Paul Roos Gymnasium
The increase in traffic and the increasing safety risks to our learners have made it necessary for the management to implement the following:
In future the main entrance will be an entrance only. The following parking will be available on the parking area near the hostels for visitors to the following points: • Hostel • Gymnasium • OomPolla • School • AquaticcentreThe exit, which is at Nova hostel, is clearly indicated. The road in front of the school thus becomes a one way, with traffic flowing
from the main entrance past the Japie Krige Hall to the LPR building and the Paul Roos Centre.
The following parking will be available to visitors to the following points ONLY: • Rector • Marketingoffice • OldBoys’office • PaulRoosCentreThe exit is an automatic gate which is at the far end of the tarred road that runs
past the front of the LPR building. The big gate at the Spar field will still give you access to the parking at the Paul Roos Centre, for incoming and outgo-
ing traffic during the following times: • 7:30-8:00 • 14:00-14:40

Na27gatesebeterbal-enputjiespel
het die resultate soos volg gelyk:
1ste span wen 5-12de span wen 3.5-2.53de span wen 5.5-0.5
4de span wen 5-15de span wen 5-1
juig. Met resultate soos hierdie sien ons
hopelik weer oor twee jaar talle onder-steuners by Devonvale.

Humbling Hockey
Charl Smit
On8April2016,PaulRoos’sfirsthockeyteam experienced a slight setback after losing against Grey High by 1-2 in Stel-
lenbosch. Champions are made long before lights,
crowds and trophies surround them. Eve-ryone is motivated during the big game, but true champions are competitors in practice and in play. They have the will to compete, to train, and to prepare weeks and months ahead of any match, as Paul Roos’s first hockey team had been doing for months before Grey High. Grey High
certainly did the same. Both teams played excellent hockey, but
this game belonged to Grey High. They had come for revenge after Paul Roos
smashed them on home soil last year.Andrew Hobson, the captain of Paul
Roos’s first hockey team, also chosen for the SA U/21 hockey team, played a re-
markable game. Janlu Nieuwoudt was responsible for the
Paul Roos goal from a penalty flick.Pressure is a magnifying glass exposing
all of the small cracks in a team’s confi-dence. The unforgettable 2015 hockeyseason for Paul Roos was notably a hard
act to follow. But the atmosphere and the spirit at the
Astro was undoubtedly matchless. There will always be a winning squad
and a losing one. As expected, the win-ner may experience a broad range of emotions in varying degrees of intensity.
He may feel ecstatic, satisfied, confident, superior, happy, relaxed, humble, empa-thy for the loser or any number of other feelings, even including sad and let-down. Similarly, the loser experiences his own wide range of emotions from distraught, depressed, angry, resentful, sad, anxious, like a failure, frustrated, cheated, or some-times even satisfied and successful. Paul Roos and Grey High’s first hockey teams
can definitely testify to this. But instead of concerning yourself with
the score, be a competitor. Who is coming in first during the
sprints? Beat them. Who stays after practice to catch a few
more throws? Catch more. This is the typical mindset of a great
sportsman and team. If all sportsmen in Paul Roos live ac-
cording to such a maxim – great things await them.
A competitor’s hunger for improvement is never satisfied. Winning and losing must not be the ultimate barrier for “suc-cess” – improving your game should re-
main your goal.Making mistakes is better than fa-
king perfection. There is still a full sea-son ahead.
Stay humble. Stay loyal. Paul Roos is forever.

Debating vs Grey: On fast food, pharmaceuticals and prisoners as guinea pigs
Simon Brand
Should prisoners be allowed to un-dergo drug trails in order to receive lesser sentences? Should fast-food re-tailers be banned from giving out toys with their food? These were the mat-ters at issue during the two debates that took place as part of the inter-schools
competition against Grey College. Paul Roos was represented at both senior and junior levels in this clash Luke von Holdt, Alten du Plessis and
Nathan Garret – comprising the senior PRG team – managed to assert a close but certain victory over their Grey
counterparts. As the opposition in their debate,
they had to reject the proposal of using reduced prison sentences as an incen-tive for inmates to take part in the test-ing of hazardous experimental drugs. Our junior team (Elliot Cutler,
Teague Heyneke and Matt Britz) however, did not manage to better
our rival in their proposition of a ban on the toys that accompany fast food.
