Active Shooter Preparedness Training

In light of the recent tragedy in Sutherland Springs, many of our churches are interested in doing what they can to be prepared for such an event.

Region 4 Department of Public Safety will conduct an "Active Shooter Preparedness" training on

Saturday, January 13th from 9:00am to 11:00am in the First Baptist Church Chapel at 37 East Harris Avenue, San Angelo.

The DPS offers this training to companies, churches and organizations at no charge for those who ask for it. Representatives from ALL of our area churches are invited and encouraged to attend this free training!! For more information, please contact D.Y.

Walter & Vicki Flowers, former members of FBC Mertzon, now live in Abilene and have started a respite

ministry for ministers. They are a retired couple who love the Lord and want to share some of what He allows

them to enjoy now. They live on 323 acres of grass land with large oak trees 22 miles north of Abilene and

run a cow/calf operation. They currently have 41 head of cattle, 25 young chickens, 3 barn cats, and a new

puppy on the way.

Walter & Vicki are offering this home to ministers and their families

as a place for relaxation and rest. This home is about 350’ south of

their home. It is a fully furnished 3 bedroom home with all the linens

and appliances you would need. If you have special pillows or other

personal items, please fill free to bring your own. You can do all of

your own cooking or join Walter & Vicki for any or all meals.

They will love and pray over each of you as you enjoy your stay.

DR. DONGSUN CHO

Dr. Cho will be teaching the Korean language track. He is an Associate Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Cho grew up in Seoul, Korea and migrated in his late 20s to Texas where his father pastored a Korean Baptist congregation. Dr. Cho has been teaching various subjects related to Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, Early Christianity, and Baptist Heritage at South-western since 2008. He recently served as editor-in-chief and contributor of Baptist Systematic Theology in Korean. He has served as Central Asia regional coordinator of Global Theological Innovation at SWBTS since

2014. His education includes a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2008. Extra Doctoral Work: University of Dallas (Irving, Texas), Th.M. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1999. M.Div. Korea Baptist Theological Seminary, 1997. B.A. Soongsil University(Seoul, Korea), 1994.

REV. CARLOS FRANCIS

Reverend Carlos M. Francis has served as Youth Pastor for Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas for nine years under the guidance and direction of his father in the ministry, Reverend Dr. Michael A. Evans, Sr. Rev. Francis accepted Christ, as well as his call to the ministry, at the age of ten and strives to make Christ the center of the lives of the children and youth at BBC. He graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2004 NFL Draft and served the team with distinction for four seasons. Most recently, Rev.

Francis graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education. He resides in Arlington, Texas with his wife, Martisha, and the couple’s three children, Carlos II, Carlee, and Carter.

REV. JOSHUA TAPIA

Josh will be teaching the Spanish language track. He is a nationally and internationally known full-time evangel-ist committed to going everywhere to reach everyone with the Life of Christ. For over 25 years, Josh has shared the Gospel and taught God’s Word through revivals, crusades, camps and local church outreach events. His preaching style is simple and understandable and his use of real life experiences along with a bit of humor make his messages relevant to people of all ages. Josh is fluent in both English and Spanish, which makes him an effective bilingual communicator. Josh and his family live in San Antonio, Texas where he serves as a chaplain with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

DR. LEIGHTON FLOWERS

Dr. Leighton Flowers was named the Director of Apologetics for Texas Baptists in 2016. In addition to preaching on a wide range of biblical subjects, Dr. Flowers regularly travels to churches of all sizes to conduct seminars that specialize on apologetics. He has participated in debates with leading apologists and led training conferences for the BGCT Annual Convention, Conclave, Apologetic Conferences and the SBC Annual Convention. Prior to 2016, he served as the Director of Youth Evangelism for Texas Baptists for 13 years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Theology from Hardin-Simmons University (1997); a Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2000); and completed his Doctorate at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (2016).

Leighton and his wife Laura, have four children (Colson, Cooper, Esther and Caden) and live in North Garland just outside of Dallas where he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Theology for Trinity Seminary.

DR. MARK MITTELBERG Dr. Mark Mittelberg is a best-selling author, sought-after speaker, and a leading strategist in evangelism and apologetics-oriented outreach. He is the primary creator (with Lee Strobel and Bill Hybels) of Becoming a Contagious Christian Training Course, which has been translated into more than 20 languages and used to train 1.5 million people around the world to effectively and naturally communicate their faith to others.

Mark has written several books, including The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask, Choosing Your Faith, and The Reason Why Faith Makes Sense. In addition, Mark was a contributor to God Is Great, God Is

Good: Why Believing in God Is Reasonable & Responsible, edited by William Lane Craig and Chad Meister - which won the 2010 Christianity Today award for best book in the area of apologetics and evangelism.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in business, Mark earned a Master’s Degree in Philosophy of Religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. In recognition of his achievements in the areas of evangelism and apologetics, he was recently honored by the conferring of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

DR. BRAXTON HUNTER

Dr. Braxton Hunter is the former president of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists (COSBE). As President and Professor of Apologetics at Trinity College and Seminary, Dr. Hunter is passionate about the defense of the Christian faith in a skeptical world.

Dr. Hunter has preached in some of the nation's largest churches while sharing the conference stage with such notables as Dr. Stephen Olford, Dr. Peter Lord, Dr. Johnny Hunt, Dr. Junior Hill, Dr. Jerry Vines, Dr. Fred Luter, and Dr. Bobby Welch. He holds a B.A. in expository preaching, an M.A. in Theology and a Ph.D. in Christian Apologetics. Dr. Hunter is the author of Blinding Lights: the Glaring Evidences of the Christian Faith, Death is a

Doorway and his most current scholarly work, Evangelistic Apologetics.

REV. RANI ESPANIOLY

Rani Espanioly is an Arab Christian born and raised in Nazareth, Israel. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014 with a Masters in Islamic Studies, and he currently works as a Cross Cultural Mobilizer with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, concentrating on equipping and mobilizing the church for an effective outreach to M’s. He is married to Hannah, a native Texan, and father to Samuel, Eliza and Lydia.

completed specific courses offered by CJC, including

one who met his goals early and got a job!

After receiving an undergraduate degree in business, Mark earned a Master’s Degree in Philosophy of Religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. In recognition of his achievements in the areas of evangelism and apologetics, he was recently honored by the conferring of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

DR. BRAXTON HUNTER

Dr. Braxton Hunter is the former president of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists (COSBE). As President and Professor of Apologetics at Trinity College and Seminary, Dr. Hunter is passionate about the defense of the Christian faith in a skeptical world.

Dr. Hunter has preached in some of the nation's largest churches while sharing the conference stage with such notables as Dr. Stephen Olford, Dr. Peter Lord, Dr. Johnny Hunt, Dr. Junior Hill, Dr. Jerry Vines, Dr. Fred Luter, and Dr. Bobby Welch. He holds a B.A. in expository preaching, an M.A. in Theology and a Ph.D. in Christian Apologetics. Dr. Hunter is the author of Blinding Lights: the Glaring Evidences of the Christian Faith, Death is a

Doorway and his most current scholarly work, Evangelistic Apologetics.

REV. RANI ESPANIOLY

Rani Espanioly is an Arab Christian born and raised in Nazareth, Israel. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014 with a Masters in Islamic Studies, and he currently works as a Cross Cultural Mobilizer with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, concentrating on equipping and mobilizing the church for an effective outreach to M’s. He is married to Hannah, a native Texan, and father to Samuel, Eliza and Lydia.

last week recognizing 14 men and women who

completed specific courses offered by CJC, including

one who met his goals early and got a job!

living at the camp,

passing through the camp

camp to get more food.

or church volunteers at

Aransas Pass

and 372 not including

the team or church

volunteers at Rockport.

Several stepped

forward for prayer,

to rededicate their

life to Jesus and to

make a decision to

make Jesus Lord of

their life.

Active Shooter Preparedness Training

In light of the recent tragedy in Sutherland Springs, many of our churches are interested in doing what they can to be prepared for such an event.

Region 4 Department of Public Safety will conduct an "Active Shooter Preparedness" training on

Saturday, January 13th from 9:00am to 11:00am in the First Baptist Church Chapel at 37 East Harris Avenue, San Angelo.

The DPS offers this training to companies, churches and organizations at no charge for those who ask for it. Representatives from ALL of our area churches are invited and encouraged to attend this free training!! For more information, please contact D.Y.
