The Rotary Club of Rickmansworth has for many years run this music competition with the help of the Three Rivers Music Socie-ty and this year is joined by Chorleywood Orchestra. The competition has always attracted very talented young people, some of whom go on to win other competitions, including the BBC Young Musician com-petition, as well as making careers in the musical world.

Rickmansworth Rotary Club has supported numerous national charities at the local level such as Alzeimers Society, Parkinson’s Disease, and Motor Neurone Disease. This year we raised £1k for the Epilepsy Society. Past fund raising events have helped Hare-field Hospital, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and Michael Sobell Hospice. The proceeds

of our Christmas Float collections are always distributed to local charities and the needy in our community. Last year we sponsored a public defib in Rickmansworth Town Centre.

As Rotarians we support programmes for youth, educational opportunities and participate in the “Dictionaries4Life” scheme in junior schools. We also support Rotary Foundation who help after natural and man-made disasters, nationally and interna-tionally. Many will be aware of our efforts to rid the world of Polio.

We are a service club with a strong social element, meeting fortnightly for fellowship and project planning. We welcome visitors and new members to join us in our ventures.

Adjudicators

Belinda Mikhail

Belinda was awarded the Associated Board and Queen Mother Scholarships to study piano and singing as a joint first study at the Royal College of Music, where she won the Hopkinson Gold Medal for her final recital. Since graduating she has travelled extensively, performing both as a soloist and chamber musician and has appeared as a concerto soloist at the major London concert halls. Belinda directs a number of choirs and is in demand as a vocal coach, with her students enjoying major roles in West End Shows. She has made numer-ous recordings for Sony BMG and Universal, and is the vocal soloist on many major film soundtracks.

Richard Wainwright

Richard performs with many of the leading London orchestras and is principal horn of the London Festival and English Festival Orches-tras, New London Soloists, Milton Keynes City Orchestra, Belmont Ensemble, Bath Phil-harmonia and the Camerata of Ireland. He was a member of the European Chamber Orchestra for eight years, touring extensively throughout the world. He has recorded soundtracks of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings for Warner Bros and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concer-tante for solo winds with the Belmont Ensemble. Richard is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and a committed teacher with many of his students now pursuing professional careers. Richard is principal conductor of Chor-leywood Orchestra.

Susan Collier

Susan has a lifelong passion for communication through music. Inspired, at the age of three, by her first public performance as a violinist at the Royal College of Music, she has since dedicated herself to expertise in perfor-mance and directing. She has put into practice skills of artis-tic interpretation, reading and playing to audiences, timing and sensitivity. Susan has a keen sense of how to convey musical expression, as a solo-ist, conductor, teacher, director, or as part of a larger group. She freelances with various London-based ensembles and performs with the Silvestre Trio. Having studied at the Royal Academy of Music, Susan became the youngest violin professor in their Junior Department and has since been awarded an ARAM for outstanding services to the violin profession.
