TransferringIt used to transfer data. A protocol is the set of rules that describes how information is transferred across the Internet between clients and servers. The protocol used by the Web to transfer data is called the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

The most common protocols are :file://Opens a file on a mounted disk volumehttp://Opens a World Wide Web pageftp://Connects to a server using the File Transfer Protocol telnet://Connects to a server using Telnetnews: Connects to a Usenet newsgroupmailto: Sends an electronic mail messagesnews: Opens a secure newsgroup connectionshttp://Opens a secure World Wide Web connectionSharing and Storing Web-based information across networkslocal-area networks (LANs) : The computers are close together in the same building/facility.wide-area networks (WANs) : The computers are farther apart and are connected by telephone lines or radio waves. campus-area networks (CANs): The computers are within a limited geographic area, such as a campus or military base. Internet / IntranetAn international network that most people refer to as the World Wide Web (www). An intranet is a private network that is contained within an enterprise /company.

Using relative addresses will also make your Web document more portable and easier to maintain. Competency 003: DThe Master Technology Teacher:Demonstrates knowledge of network, security, and access issue (e.g., firewalls, password controls) related to the maintenance of a Web site.

There are many types of computer networks, including: local-area networks (LANs) : The computers are geographically close together (that is, in the same building). wide-area networks (WANs) : The computers are farther apart and are connected by telephone lines or radio waves. campus-area networks (CANs): The computers are within a limited geographic area, such as a campus or military base. metropolitan-area networks (MANs): A data network designed for a town or city. home-area networks (HANs): A network contained within a user's home that connects a person's digital devices.
