Using Global Actions in Newforma Project Center

(Submittals)7th and 8th Edition



7th Edition Submittal Actions Newforma ships with a default set of actions and

purposes that appear as drop downs in each of the workflow steps in Newforma Project Center

The labels that appear in the drop down list can be customized to reflect terminology used in your firm

Customization can be done to the Global Submittal Action List and therefore affect all submittals activity centers OR you can override a specific project by creating another list and assigning it to a specific project

This document defines how the default labels are used in Newforma project center


Accessing Global Submittal Action List

In Project Administration, select the Global Project Settings tab, then select Global Submittal Action List and select Modify


Viewing Default Submittal Action List

The default contents of the actions and purposes drop down that appear in the in the workflow appear.


Customize Default Names

To modify a default label, select the Name then click Modify. Change the Keyword field to reflect the term used at your firm.


Log a Submittal

Action values that appear in the Log a Submittal dialog are type Submittal Receive


Forward a Submittal

Purpose values that appear in the Forward Submittal for Review dialog are type Submittal Forward


Record a Reviewer Response

Action values that appear in the Record Submittal Reviewer Response dialog are type Submittal Review Response


Respond and Close

• Action values that appear in the Respond to Submittal and Close dialog are multiple types. See the next slide to understand how these types relate to the category drop down list that appears in the Submittal log.

• Note that types of Submittal Resubmit will cause the Expected dialog to appear to give the user an option to create an expected resubmittal.


Closed Submittals

Depending on the Action selected on the Submittal Respond and Close dialog, the closed submittal will appear in one of the closed sub categories as shown to the right.


8th Edition Submittal Actions

The principles behind how Submittal Actions work are the same between 7th and 8th Edition

Since the Submittal Activity center has been upgraded in 8th edition, the name has changed to distinguish between the 7th and 8th list

There are additional types available in 8th Edition to support the new tasks

Note that this describes Submittals, but the principles apply to all Contract Management activity centers that use workflow (for example, RFIs, Bulletins, Change Order Proposals, etc.)

The Final Receive type is not used in 8th edition but is reserved for functionality in a future release.
