Chauffeur’s Room, Army Bunkers and Administration

Buildings.

1838

Lt George Grey explored the Yanchep area and learned much of his knowledge on bush tucker from his liaisons with local Aboriginal peoples

from the Yanchep and Wanneroo areas. Accounts suggest that he developed a close acquaintance with the families of the area from Lake Joondalup to Yanchep and beyond, while on his northward expedition from Perth in November 1838, and again on his return from the Kimberley in 1839.

WWII - RAAF established a radar station in Yanchep Park Yanchep Inn occupied as a rehabilitation and place for

convalescence.

Origin of Place NamesThe word Yanchep is derived from Yanjidi which is the aboriginal name for the edible root of the native narrow leaf flax Typha anggustipholia or bulrush reed found fringing the lakes in the area now known as the Yanchep National Park.

Two Rocks is a beautiful coastal suburb coastal suburb 63km north of Perth. Two Rocks was approved as a suburb name in 1975, with the 1980’s seeing the development of the marina. In 2018/19 works are scheduled for the marina to undergo a $6 million upgrade funded by the Department of Transport.
