Community In Bloom

Awards 2014

NParks has been spearheading the Community In Bloom (CIB)

programme to create gardening communities within housing

estates, educational institutions and organisations in Singapore

by partnering various stakeholders including residents,

government agencies, grassroots organisations, schools and

organisations.

Today, we have more than 700 CIB Gardens in Singapore.

Community In Bloom

Community In Bloom Awards aims to:

• Recognise and reward gardening efforts by community gardening

groups

• Motivate and encourage community gardeners to enjoy gardening

as a fun and healthy activity

• Set & improve the standards of community gardens located in

communal spaces

• Spread the gardening bug to others in the community so that they

too can discover the joy of gardening

Four Categories of Community Gardens

Community gardens cultivated by residents on common green

spaces within public housing estates. The project is managed by

Residents’ Committees.

Public Housing Estates

Community gardens cultivated by residents on roadside green verges

in front of landed homes, in neighbourhood parks, or on common

green spaces within highrise private estates. The project is managed

by Neighbourhood Committees.

Private Housing Estates

Gardens cultivated by students, teachers & parent volunteers on

green spaces within the school premises. The project is managed

by schools’ environmental clubs.

Educational Institutions

Community gardens cultivated by staff or volunteers on green spaces

within the organisation’s premises or in common green spaces within

a housing estate. The project is managed by the organisation’s

gardening interest group.
