On behalf of everyone at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, I’m delighted that you’re thinking about joining us. Returning to education as an adult can be a daunting step, yet the fact that you are considering this indicates how important it is. Whether you wish to progress in your current career, gain a footing into higher education or a completely new career, or simply learn about something that interests you, West Nottinghamshire College would be proud to support you in achieving your ambitions.

Our tutors bring great experience and knowledge of the sectors they teach, as well as a determination to encourage and support you to achieve your very best. Support staff will ensure that your individual needs are met, whether that’s gaining entry into a top university, overcoming a learning difficulty or disability, or dealing with life’s challenges. Everyone you meet in the college will treat you with respect, friendliness and a sincere desire to see you do well.

Our college has outstanding facilities to ensure that you’re able to practice in industry-standard settings. Our IT facilities are amongst the very best, as has been shown through the Coronavirus crisis where we’ve been able to move our entire curriculum on-line to ensure students are still able to learn.

West Notts College never stands still. We are constantly seeking to improve the experience of our students and prepare them even better for their futures. This means improving what we teach, how we teach it and the facilities we use. It also means building on our enrichment offer for students. In 2021 we’ll be launching a new programme in automation and robotics, using state-of-the-art equipment, as well as reshaping our construction offer to include more modern methods of building. Our sports offer will benefit from the second year of our partnership with Mansfield Town FC. We’ll be moving the A Level teaching to the refurbished specialist sixth form college on Chesterfield Road, to create

COMMUNITY COURSESBRINGING LEARNING TO YOUR DOORSTEPAlongside our full and part-time course provision, we offer over 300 short community courses each year for adults aged 19 and over. These courses cover many different subjects including transferable skills for employment, hobbies, leisure and interests. These are delivered at around 30 venues across Mansfield and Ashfield in the daytime, evenings and weekends.

English and maths are essential qualifications to have in order to gain employment. Those without a GCSE grade 4/C or above will find it increasingly difficult to get into the world of work or secure a promotion. Plus many courses and training programmes also require English and maths as part of the entry criteria.

At college, our experienced tutors will work closely with each student to ensure they are learning the skills needed to excel in these subjects and progress in their career.

GCSE MATHS AND ENGLISHThose students who come to college requiring a higher grade in English or maths will be encouraged to study one or both subjects alongside their main programme of study. This allows them to achieve these essential qualifications, while still working towards their chosen career goal.

Ultimately, securing GCSE English and maths qualifications will enable students to progress onto the next level of study or into employment.

APPRENTICESHIPS You can start an apprenticeship at any time from the age of 16.

With no upper age limit, apprenticeships have quickly become a popular choice for adult learners looking to retrain for a new career, or gain new knowledge and skills for potential promotion within their current role.

With benefits including a salary, holiday entitlement and an opportunity to gain vital employability skills while working towards standards created by employers themselves, apprenticeships offer a great alternative to leaving work to study full-time at college or university.

Our application process is tailored to each apprentice’s individual needs, and we can also assist with CV and interview preparation. Applicants are carefully matched to apprenticeship opportunities which are right for them, and fully-supported throughout their apprenticeship.

ALREADY IN EMPLOYMENT?The college works with employers to create apprenticeship opportunities in the workplace for their current employees, to enable them to gain the skills needed to progress. Interested? We can speak to your employer about the benefits of apprenticeships.

View current apprenticeship vacancies and register an interest at www.visionapprentices.co.uk, or call 0800 121 8317 to speak with an advisor.

Access courses are taught at our Chesterfield Road campus, and are available across a range of subjects, from business, to nursing and teaching; giving students the opportunity to move on to a number of university-level subjects. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an Access to Higher Education Diploma.

On a Pre-Access course you will:

Improve your GCSE English and maths skills.

Discover new research skills and revision techniques.

THE FURTHER EDUCATION ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN SYSTEM Advanced Learner Loans (ALL) are available for qualifying students over the age of 19 who study programmes at Level 3 and above. Loans will be applicable to students aged 19-23 who already have a full level 3 or equivalent.

As with all other fee paying students, those funded through an Advanced Learner Loan are at all times personally responsible for paying their fees. If a student presents themselves for enrolment on a course of study for which an ALL is required and does not provide evidence of acceptance through Student Finance England (SFE), they will be liable to pay a fee of £250.

This fee will be refunded if evidence is provided within eight weeks of the date of enrolment. If this evidence is not provided in this period of time, the £250 will not be refunded and the student will remain liable for the full course fee.

See page 52 for more details on Advanced Learner Loans.

Earning less than £17,004? Your course may be free. Call 0808 100 3626 to find out more.

UNIVERSITY-LEVEL FEES Fees and funding for university-level courses are different to the other types of courses we offer at the college.

Student loans are still available. Loans are not repaid until you earn over £26,575 per year and student loan interest rates are low.

Most repayments start as low as £3 per month and stop if your salary ever falls below £26,575 or you become unemployed.

At Vision West Nottinghamshire College, we have taken the decision to keep our fees as low as possible. Our fees for 2020/2021 courses are £3,800 per year for part-time courses and £6,165 per year for full-time courses. This is significantly less than other colleges or universities who charge up to £9,250 per year.

HE STUDENTS ARE AT ALL TIMES RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THEIR FEESIn some circumstances student fees are paid by a sponsor. If at the time of enrolment the student does not provide evidence of sponsorship they will pay a refundable fee of £250.

This fee will be refunded if evidence is provided within eight weeks of the date of enrolment. If this evidence is not provided by this date the £250 will not be refunded and the student will remain liable for the full fee.

If the student fees are to be paid by Student Finance England (SFE) using the loan system and at the time of enrolment the student does not have evidence of acceptance, they must provide evidence within eight weeks of the date of enrolment or they will be liable for the full fee. If the fee is not paid the student will be withdrawn from the course.

To find out more about our university-level courses, please visit www.wnc.ac.uk/HE or call us on 0808 100 3626 to speak to someone about fees and funding.

OTHER ADDITIONAL COSTS There may be additional charges for activities, such as day trips, residentials and licensing requirements which will be specific to individual courses. Details of any additional costs to studying HE courses are provided at applicant events.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS COSTSWherever possible, materials costs have already been included in the tuition fee, but there may be occasions when you need to provide additional materials, particularly in relation to creative courses and workshops.

COURSE LENGTHAll tuition fees listed on the website are for one year of study. Two-year courses will attract an additional fee in the second year of study.

FEE EXEMPTION Some students are entitled to have their course fees waived. You can check the table on pages 54-55 to see if this applies to you. If so, you will need to provide the appropriate evidence listed.
