THE LESSON. Ecclesiasticus 44. 22.
HE blessing of the Lord was upon the head of therighteous. Therefore the Lord gave him an
heritage; and divided his portion among the twelvetribes. And he found favour in the sight of all flesh.And the Lord magnified him so that his enemies stood
in fear of him. By his words he caused the wonders tocease: he made him glorious in the sight of kings, andgave him a commandment for his people, and showedhim his glory. He sanctified him in his faithfulness andmeekness, and chose him out of all men. He gave himcommandments before his face, even the law of life andknowledge, and exalted him. An everlasting covenanthe made with him: the Lord beautified him withornaments of righteousness: and clothed him with arobe of glory.

LESSED are those servants, whom their lord whenhe cometh shall find watching. Verily I say unto
you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sitdown to meat, and will come forth and serve them.And if he shall come in the second watch, or come inthe third watch, and find them so, blessed are thoseservants. And this know, that if the good-man of thehouse had known what hour the thief would come, hewould have watched, and not have suffered his houseto be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also; forthe Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not.Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou thisparable unto us, or even unto all? And the Lord said,Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom hislord shall make ruler over his household, to give themtheir food in due season? Blessed is that servant, whomhis lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of atruth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler overall that he hath.

And he saithunto them, Follow me; and I will make you fishers ofmen. And they straightway left their nets, and

And they immediatelyleft the ship and their father, and followed him. Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever;for wisdom and might are his.
And he changeth the times and the seasons;
he removeth kings, and setteth up kings;he giveth wisdom unto the wise,and knowledge to them that know understanding;
he revealeth the deep and secret things;he knoweth what is in darkness, and the light

for thou hast made known unto us the kings matter.Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the kinghad appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; hewent in and said unto him, Destroy not the wise menof Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I willshow unto the king the interpretation.

ESUS said, He who hath ears to hear, let him hear.And his disciples came, and said unto him, Why
speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered
and said unto them, To you it is given to know themysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it isnot given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given,and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever hathnot, from him shall be taken even that he hath.Therefore speak I unto them in parables, because theysee and see not, and they hear and hear not, neither dothey understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecyof Isaiah which said,
Hearing, ye shall hear and shall not understand,And seeing, ye shall see and not perceive;For the heart of this people is become fat,And with their ears they hardly hear,And their eyes they have shut,Lest they should see with their eyes,And hear with their ears,And understand with their heart,And should turn, and I should heal them.
But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears,
for they hear. Verily, I say unto you, that manyprophets and righteous men have desired to see thosethings which ye see, and have not seen: and to hearthose things which ye hear, and have not heard.
