Now seriously - who are we?
Established in late 2011
Brought together into one section:
• UBEs and other on-site contracted services (i.e.
Child Care, Aus Post, Catering, Security)
• Student residential accommodation
• Property and infrastructure management and
development
Commercial Services and Development
• Revised management structure implemented in
Sept 2011
• Number of changes occurred affecting CSD that
prompted restructure to be suspended
• Need to re-evaluate structure to meet these
emerging areas of activity
• Revised structure proposed – seven functional
Units all reporting to the Executive Director’s Office.

What did you do then?
Commercial Services and Development
1. Improve delivery of maintenance and facilities activities through
implementing a new maintenance model (M3) from 2013.
2. Consolidate contracts and procurement into a single function
delivered as a specialist functional area to achieve cost
savings.
3. Appoint Contract Owners and Customer Response Officers
(CROs) to ensure effective on-the-ground delivery of facilities
and maintenance services to customers by external contractors.
4. Delivery of CSD transactional services via a Service Centre.
5. Deliver a built environment that enhances the student
experience and engages the broader Tasmanian community.

6. Consolidate all accommodation activities to offer world-class
accommodation options.
7. Provide a range of campus services that meet the needs of the
University community and support the student experience.
8. Continue to develop and implement high level CSD strategic
planning framework to support of UTAS strategic directions
(Open to Talent)
9. Develop and promote effective, coordinated and transparent
system of policies, procedures and guidelines to support CSD
operations.

Main elements of new structure
Accommodation - consolidation of all student accommodation offerings
BED – development of built environment, minor and major project
delivery, campus design and planning
IPC – improved maintenance planning and compliance
Campus Services – delivery of services via a Service Centre, UBEs
and third party contract management, contracts and procurement,
customer focussed delivery model
Business Services – budget planning and advice, financial services
support
Service Improvements – strategic data management, business
improvement projects, improved systems, performance monitoring and
reporting, org. design, service culture
Strategy and Policy – support section-wide strategic planning, policy
framework, governance, sustainability
