Birchills 1954 BCN 2365 The last wooden day boat built by EThomas (Walsall) Ltd, and the 3rd lastwooden joey boat built. The only surviving Joey with a cabin. Restored this year.

Diamond 1928 (on the dock) BCN1417Long Distance Family Boat. Iron composite with rear cabin. Registered atWolverhampton. Built for the Midlandsand Coast C C Ltd, by Jones & Co on theRiver Dee at Chester.

FMC 138 1898 BCN 16473Built by Braithwaite & Kirke of WestBromwich, for Fellows Morton and Clayton Ltd, as a composite Day Boat.

G.W.R. 15 1879 BCN 14115 ex 10202Built as a Station Boat for the GreatWestern Railway. 70’ Long 6” Draught.Worked as a Railway Interchange Boat.Owned by Jones and Fitz, Rowley Regis 1895.

G.W.R. 65 1873 BCN 14115 ex 10202Built for the GWR as a station boat. Similar to No 15, both built by Tho Bantock (Mk 2) of Ettingshall.

Ham LMS 36 1929 BCN 14130Iron station boat, LMS station boat, operated out of Wolverhampton.

Kildare 274 1913 BCN21743 Butty, constructed of wrought iron sides,elm bottom. Built by Braithwaite and Kirk for Fellows, Morton and Clayton.

President 195 1909 BCN1832Ex Fellows, Morton & Clayton steam narrow boat. Constructed of iron, withcabin, motor driven. 'President' was built in 1909 at a cost of £600 in Fellows, Morton and Clayton's companydock at Saltley, Birmingham.

Peacock 102 1915 BCN22821 Built as a Fly boat for Fellows Mortonand Clayton.

Ross 1847BCN Horse Drawn Ice Breaker. Iron construction.

Stour 87 1937 BCN 1983Constructed of oak and elm. Used byThomas Clayton Ltd as a tanker in theLondon area. It later carried gas tar to the Midland Tar distilleries.

BCN No 33. 1873 BCN 22998 ex 18409 ex 133Spoon Dredger. Constructed of rivetedIron, 70’ long 2” Draught. Used as aMaintenance boat for spot dredging the canals. In District No 1.

Aldgate 1936Large Woolwich motor boat. 71’ 6” long,3’ draught. Built by Harland & Wolfe forthe Grand Union Canal Carrying Company. Constructed from Steel. Restored in 2007 by the present owner.

Atlas 1935Small Woolwich Motor boat, 71’ 6” long,3’ draught, constructed from steel. Builtby Harland and Wolfe for the GrandUnion Carrying Company and has beenpart of the British Waterways carryingfleet and the maintenance fleet for many years. Coombswood Canal Society and Birmingham Canal Navigation Society now own this boatwhich is run and maintained by their volunteers. See Malus.

Bellatrix 1935Built by Yarwoods and Son’s, Northwichfor the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company. 71’ 6” long, 3’ draught, Steel, Composite construction. 1938Wolverhampton based Wulfruna CoalCompany bought the boat. Owner bought the boat in 1965 and restored it to its present condition.

Bittell 1934Built by Yarwoods and Sons, Northwichas a riveted Iron tug/ice breaker. 40’long, 2’ 8” draught, Tug No 5 worked forStewart’s & Lloyds till 1958, British Waterways bought the tug and used itfor maintenance around the B.C.N. In1990 Dudley Canal Trust took over therunning of the boat and restored it tohow it would have looked as a workingStewarts and Lloyds tug in 1934.(Sister Ship to PACIFIC).

Brighton 1936Butty, Built For the Grand Union CarryingCompany. 71.6” long 3” Draught.

Birmingham 1936Built for the Grand Union Carrying Company. Riveted Iron Construction,Large Woolwich, 71’6” long, 3’ Draught.Carried everything, including Coal,Wheat, Steel, Paper and Rubbish.

Cassiopeia 1935 Star class little Woolwich, 71’ 6” long, 3’draught. Constructed of iron composite.Built by Harland & Wolff for the GrandUnion Canal Carrying Co.

Clematis 1935Built by Yarwoods and Sons of Northwichfor Fellows Morton and Clayton. Workedbetween London and Birmingham. 70ftLong, 2’ 8” Draught. Steel Construction.

Clover 1935Josher motorboat, 70’6’’ long, 3’2”draught, constructed of riveted iron.Worked for Fellows Morton and Clayton.Bolinder Engine fitted.

Corona 1935 Star class motor boat, 72’ long, 3’draught. Small Woolwich. Built by Harland and Wolff for the Grand UnionCanal Carrying Company. constructedfrom steel. Was later sold to a canalcompany as a maintenance boat.

Coventry 1879Was built as a horse drawn Ice Breaker(hull). Converted in 1935 by Harris’s ofBumble Hole, Netherton to a Tug for theCoventry Canal Co. Later worked on theBirmingham and Fazeley Canal. 31’6”long, 3’ draught, riveted Iron hull. Restored by its current owner in 2007. Lives at the Museum.

Darley 1937Large Woolwich, 71’ 6” long, 2’ 10”draught, constructed from riveted steel.Built for the Grand Union Canal CarryingCo, it stayed in general service until the 60’s when it was used for canalmaintenance.

Dove 192570’ long, 3’ draught, built by Yarwoods &Sons, Northwich for Fellows Morton andClayton. Constructed of iron.

Empress 1898 Built for Fellows Morton and Clayton as aSteamer. Iron Construction. 70’ length 3’ 3” Draught. 1924 sold toErnest Thomas of Walsall, fitted a 15h.p. Bolinder Engine.

Enterprise No.1 1899Rebuilt as a Tug, 52’ Long 3’ Draught. Riveted Composite Iron Construction.Fellows Morton & Clayton SteamerCount-No47-1899. In 1925 Count No47had Bolinder Engine fitted. In 1950 Boatcut down for Ernest Thomas of WalsallLtd, 5 cyl Gardner engine 5L2 fitted.

Flying Scott 1900Oxford Canal Company Maintenanceboat, (Brickies) 40’ long, 3” draught, constructed of riveted iron.Owned by Dudley Canal Trust.

Governor 1942Tug/Icebreaker, 45’ long, 3’ draught, constructed from iron. Governor wasbuilt at Harris’ yard of Bumble Hole, Netherton for Alfred Matty Transport of Coseley. It was restored in 2001 by Bob May.

Jake 1909 70’ long, 2’ 7” draught, constructed ofsteel. Previously named Linda, Jake wasbuilt at Hickmans as a joey boat, Bilstonfor Stewarts & Lloyds. Converted to a motorboat.

Leo 1935Butty, 70’ Long 1’ Draught, Star Class, Built by Yarwoods & Sons, Northwich.constructed of steel.

Lindsay 1959. Admiral ClassWorking narrow boat, 70’ 6” long, 2’ 9”draught,constructed from welded steel.Built by Yarwoods and Sons, Northwich.Carried potters materials to the potteriesat Stoke-on-Trent. Run by Etruria BoatGroup. Only 2 built.

Lynx 1913Motor boat, 71’ 6” long, 3’ 6” draught,constructed from steel. Built for theGrand Union Canal Carrying Co and wasused mainly on the London to Birmingham route.

Malus 1935Butty, 71’ 6” long, constructed from iron.Built for the Grand Union Canal CarryingCo and was used mainly on the Londonto Birmingham route. See Atlas

Marquis 1898 Built by Fellows Morton and Clayton,Birmingham as a Steamer, later used as atug on the BCN. 54’ long, 3’ draught,constructed of iron hull, timber/steel.

Nanson 1951Tug, 40’ in length and a draught of 3’constructed of steel. Built by Yarwoodsand Sons of Northwich. Originally builtwith a centre wheelhouse which was removed in later years.

Nuneaton 1936Large Northwich, 72’ long, 3’ 4” draught,constructed from steel. Built for theGrand Union Canal Carrying Co’s expansion programme. It carried variouscargo from London to the Midlands.

Owl 1976Tug, 45’ long, 2’ 8” draught, constructedof steel. Built as a small carrying tug for rubbish collection and general towing contract.

Perch 1934Motor boat, 70’long, 3’ draught, constructed of iron. Built by Yarwoods &Sons for Fellows, Morton & Clayton. It has recently been restored by its current owner.

Sagitta 1935Built by Yarwood and Sons of Northwichfor Grand Union Canal Carrying Company. Riveted Iron construction StarClass. 71’ 6” Long 3’ Draught.Converted as a floating exhibition roomwith boatman’s cabin for visitors to lookat. Present owners “Dudley Canal Trust”

Saltaire 1936Built By Yarwood and Sons Ltd of Northwich for the Grand Union CanalCarrying Company. All Steel Constructionas a Large Northwich, 71’ 4” long 2’ 7”Draught. Later sold to British WaterwaysBoard, Lister H.R. 2 Engine.Restored by Mike Harrison in 1987

Scorpio 1935Narrow boat, 71’ 6” ,2’ 6” draught. Builtby Yarwoods & Sons of Northwich. Constructed of steel for G.U.C.C.C

Seal 1870’s Originally built as a Joey boat (Day boat)for the Great Western Railway. 54’ long,2’9” draught, constructed of iron andsteel. Whilst the boat was working abridge fell on it, cutting it in two andmaking two tug boats.

Sharpness 1908Worked as a Tunnel tug and ice breakeron the Worcester/Birmingham Canal. 45’ long, 3’ draught constructed from riveted iron.

Spey 1937She was built for the Stanlow Oil Run asa tanker boat. Later worked for ThomasClayton ltd. Still with its original enginefitted. 72’ long 3’ 6” Draught.

Swallow 1937Motor narrow boat, 70’ 6” long, 2’ 9”draught, Built by Yarwoods & Sons. ForCowburn and Cowper constructed ofsteel. Used as a carrying boat in its earlydays. It is now used as a ‘heritage’ boatfor display and promotional purposes.

Swan 1933Buillt by Yarwoods and Sons for Cowburnand Cowper as a 70’6” long with 3’draught, motor boat, built of steel andcomposite bottom. Carried Chemicalsfrom Trafford Park in Manchester toCoventry and Wolverhampton. Later carried coal on the Bridgewater Canal.

Stafford 1898Built by Fellows Morton and Clayton as aHorse Drawn Butty. Motorised in 1938by F.M.C. Riveted Iron Construction 70’6”Long 2’10” Draught.

Tardebigge 1949Built at Ocker Hill Yard on the BCN as anIce breaker / tug, 37’ in length, 2’6”draught, constructed of steel. Built withback end from GU Atillia, with new frontbows. Now has new back end.

Tench 1936 Fellows Morton & Clayton Iron Composite Motor Boat. 72’ x 3’draft.

Tug No 1 1900Built at Harris Brothers of Netherton forNoah Hingley’s Ironworks. Constructedof riveted Iron as an Ice breaker. 50’ long,3’ draught. Later worked for Stewart and Lloyds, Coombswood, Halesowen.Fitted with a 15h.p. Bolinder Engine.

Whitby 1936Motor boat, 71’ 6” long, 2’ 10” draught.Large Northwich. Built for Grand UnionCanal Carrying Co and restored in 2009.

Widgeon 1937Built by Yarwoods and Sons of Northwichfor the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company and originally named ‘Thaxted’.Later renamed by the company WillowWren CTS. Town Class Large Northwich,71’6’’ long with a draught of 3’2”. Constructed of steel. Transferred toBritish Water Board in 1947.
