Bandera went nowhere once again and the Cats had the ball again midway through the 2 nd quarter. After Neri raced 21 yards down to the Bandera 30, Falcon found Herrera all alone in the left corner of the end zone for their third TD and a 35-6 halftime lead. The Bulldogs started the second half with a run for no gain, a fumble which they managed to recover, and a David Ashcraft sack of Moore. After the punt the Cats marched down the field and Falcon hit Herrera circling out of the backfield for a 26- yard TD pass, their fourth of the game. Down 42-6 and with their passing game effectively shut down due to immense pressure, the Bandera offense curled up into the fetal position and ran power running plays incessantly. This tactic was nominally effective until Moore tried to throw the ball once again. And once again he was chased backwards 20 yards and then driven into the turf by Tucker Weyel, who collected 2.5 sacks on the night. After the punt, Chris Rodriguez showed Bandera what a running game looks like as he took a handoff to the right and cut back against the grain and simply outran the entirety of the Bandera defense for an 86- yard TD run, giving the Cats a 49-6 lead. Moore was replaced by Kenny Trevino late in the 3 rd quarter. Trevino was chased to his left and the senior heaved a throw toward his brother Leo. But Junior Cabral stepped in front of the pass and made a leaping interception. Last year Bandera won on the strength of a pair of seam passes to their tight end. On the first play of the 4 th quarter, Falcon found his tight end, Tucker Weyel, once again on a seam pass for a 39-yard TD and a 56-6 lead. Bandera went into a turtle-shell, run out the clock mode but turned the ball over on downs halfway through the 4 th . Kristian Godinez came in as QB and while the Cats were ostensibly trying to run out the clock, Godinez broke loose on a busted play for a 40-yard TD run. For Bandera, the clock mercifully expired on a 63-6 Bobcat victory that left the Homecoming crowd dancing in the moonlight. One would be hard-pressed to come up with one Bobcat to be player of the game. There were many candidates. Oscar Falcon hit 7 of 10 passes for 280 yards and 6 TDs. He also nailed 9 of 9 PATs. Jose Herrera was the Hill Country Nation Player of the Game as he caught 5 passes for 180 yards and 4 TDs. He also rushed for 46 yards and another TD. Tucker Weyel introduced a whole new element to the Bobcat passing game by catching a pair of long TDs from his TE position. He also had 7 tackles and a team-high 2.5 sacks along with a blocked extra point. And even Chris Rodriguez’s “off-night” saw him run for 125 yards including an 86-yard TD scamper. The Cats are now 5- 0, having won 13 of their last 14 games. They face their toughest test yet tomorrow as they host the undefeated Hondo Owls. Members of the Comfort Deer Volleyball team are shown celebrating a point. Even after 2 tough loses against Blanco and Ingram, their spirits are high.
