Montana winters may be dreamy, but they’re not remotely sleepy. Paws Up’s annual WinterFest culinary weekend is one reason why. Featuring James Beard Award nominee Bruce Kalman and Bravo Top Chef winner Brooke Williamson, it’s three and a half days of intimate cooking demonstrations, gourmet winter-themed feasts, tastings with winemaker Ehren Jordan, small-batch distilled beverages served at a festive ice bar, live musical performances and even lessons and matches with the Missoula Curling Club. Even without the scenery, there’s a lot to take in.

GET A TASTE OF THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE.Thursday, Jan. 25: Guitarist and singer-songwriter Andrea Harsell artfully blends bluegrass, country and rock. Her voice channels Janis Joplin, Alison Krauss and Alanis Morissette.

Friday, Jan. 26: Mudslide Charley joins in on the WinterFest fun. The band’s combo of gutbucket blues and ramshackle soul is as authentic as it is original.

Saturday, Jan. 27: Guitarist and singer-songwriter John Floridis fills the air during dinner with bluesy, folk-rock melodies. He’s shared the stage with Bruce Cockburn, Shawn Colvin and Emmylou Harris.
