By the time you receive this, you will probably already know that we have had to cancel the first Club Race of the year at RPM. This was due to a lack of Entrants, and also a lack of Workers. Obviously, without Entrants, there isn’t much point in holding the Race. But we also cannot hold the Race without sufficient Workers, particularly Corner Workers. If we can’t sufficiently man the corner stations, we can not safely hold the Race. With that said, I will once again make a plea for Workers for the Majors Race out at MPH on July 22-23. We should be good on Entrants for that event, but we will still need all the Workers we can get. Especially Corner Workers! These are the Flagging and Communications (F&C) people. These are the people who wave the flags to let the Drivers know what may be happening ahead of them on the track, and the people who communicate with the control tower to notify, or be notified, of a potential on track issue that could affect the Drivers. So these folks have a very important role on race weekend. If you have any interest in Club Racing at all, this is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the action. You can not get closer to the action than working a corner station. It isn’t hard work. You get to hang out with fellow racing addicts, and see some great racing from the front row. We even feed you lunch both days, and have a worker party with food and drink on Saturday night. If you can work both days, or just one, it will be greatly appreciated by all of the racers. Most of the racers even have ‘Thank You Workers’ on the back of their cars. Because they know that without the workers, they wouldn’t be out there racing. So please, if you have any interest what so ever, volunteer and give it a try. And Racers, if each of you brought a worker along, that would also help greatly with our worker numbers. Spring Nationals turned out to be a great weekend of fun, friends, and competition! There was the Pro Solo on Friday and Saturday. And the Championship Tour on Sunday and Monday. I was signed up to run both events, but only got to run the first session of the Pro Solo due to a mechanical issue. These things happen, and the car will be easily fixed. I can tell you though, even with the limited running I got to do in the Pro, I will run another. It is a great format. Once you start making your runs, you make 4 runs back to back to back. No real pausing. I think I had made all 4 of my runs in under 10 minutes! So you need to have your tire pressures close to start, and it is useful to have a helper there to check them for you quickly between runs. Because you don’t have time to get out of the car yourself. However, this format will also point out any weakness in your car, such as overheating issues and the like. A normal Heat at a Tour or Nationals seems extremely laid back compared to this. It is a great adrenaline rush! We will be holding a Tire Rack Street Survival course on July 8. These are great training classes for newly licensed or permitted drivers, ages 15 to 21. I have instructed at several of these, and it is fun to watch the students progress throughout the day, and leave

as safer, more aware drivers. So, if you know someonewho should take the course, have them go tostreetsurvival.org to sign up. If you would like to helpas an instructor or just an all around helper, pleasecontact Mark Walker.

If you have had thoughts of being a Solo or RallyCrossEvent Master or Course Designer, there will be plentyof opportunities to give it a try this season. Pleasecontact either Anthony Jackson (Solo) or Mike Lovejoy(RallyCross) to volunteer.

Also remember, if your partner in crime is getting boredjust sitting there watching, but they don’t want to drive,we can certainly put them to work in any number ofplaces. Timing, where it’s air conditioned. Or even atthe gate with the waivers. There are numerous placesthey can help out if they wish.

And, if you want to entice these folks to try being adriver, the best way to lure them in is by giving themrides. Bring them out to a Solo or Rallycross, put ahelmet on them, and put them in your passenger seat,or someone else’s. Once they get a ride, and see thewide variety of cars that can and do compete, they willwant to try it themselves. And we will have hookedanother one!

If you have any questions or suggestions, or want tovolunteer, please feel free to contact one of the folkslisted above, or any Board member or officer.

See you on course!
