History ~ founded in 1754 as King's College by the royal charter of King George II of England and was later named Columbia University in 1896 by the trustees.

~ The oldest institution of learning in the state of NY and the fifth oldest in the USA.

~ On July 1754, Samuel Johnson held the first classes in the new schoolhouse adjoining the Trinity Church. (there was only 8 students)

~ One early manifestation of the institution's lofty goals was the establishment in 1767 of the first American medical school to grant the M.D. degree

~ Unfortunately the American Revolution brought a halt to the growth of the university, causing suspension of the instruction in 1776 that lasted for 8 years.

~ Among the earliest students and trustees of the university were , John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States, Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the treasury and Robert R. Livingston, a member of the five-man committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence.

School Mascot and ColorsColumbia University’s official School colors are “Columbia Blue” and white.

Both colors were originally drawn from the two literary societies that were at the heart of student life in the 19th century: blue from the Philolexian Society, and white from the Peithologian Society.

Columbia University’s mascot is the LION and his name is ROAR~EE!!!!

~The average student ‘s SAT score should be 2140 to 2330 and the ACT score should be 32 to 35.

~The cost of living and tuition expenses are $47,246 to $58,742!!!!!

~29,000 applications are received to attend Columbia University.

~About 2,100 (8.0%) are admitted and some students actually turn down Columbia’s offer of admission.

~And 57.5% of Columbia’s students that applied for financial aid are provided it.

The faculty to student ratio is only 6 students to 1 teacher.

The percentage of students living on campus is 95%.Most students come from all around the world as far as China and United Kingdom.

Students from 48 of the 50 states attend Columbia University. Like California , Florida and even Texas
