2018-2019Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School is a Title I school, which means we qualify for
school-wide federal funding and services due to the needs of our student population. The main purpose of Title I services is to “enforce equity and promote excellence in education”
by leveling the playing field with regard to funding.

Logistics: Arrivals and Tardies
-Thecampusisopentostudentsbeginningat7:45a.m.-Studentswhoarenotintheirclassroomsby8:15willbemarkedtardy,andmustbesignedinbyaparentorguardian.Studentswhoreachten(10)tardiesand/orearlycheckoutswillbeassigned‘make-uptime’atthediscretionoftheprincipal.Make-uptimewillbeafterschoolfrom3:00–3:45pm.Transportationwillnotbeprovidedforthesestudents.-Studentswholeaveschoolearlyareconsideredabsent.-Carridersunloadusingthetwodrivelanesatthemainparkinglot,closesttothegym.DriversshouldnotenteronYorktown(one-way)orfromGeorgiaStreetandthelowerendofGroveAvenue.-BusridersunloadontheupperendofGroveAvenue.-Studentsmayonlyrideabustheyhavebeenassigned.-WalkersmayentercampuseitherbythemainentranceonGroveAvenue,usingthesidewalkbytheMediaCenter–or–throughtheentranceoffofSpringStreet,betweentheColtraneandWebbbuildings.

School-Wide Homework Policy
Theassignmentofstudenthomeworkisbasedonthediscretionoftheindividualteacher,consistentwithage-appropriateandgrade-levelexpectations.Weencourageallstudents/familiestoreadaminimumoftwentytothirtyminuteseachday.
A Focus On Positive Behavior: PBIS and Discipline
PositiveBehaviorInterventionandSupports:PBISisasystematicapproachforencouragingpositivebehaviors.AtColtrane-Webb,oursystemisfoundedonthree“universals”oragreed-uponvalues:respect,responsibility,andsafety.Studentsaretaughtwhatitmeanstoberespectful,responsible,andsafeineveryareaoftheschoolcampus.Studentsarerewardedforshowingthesepositivebehaviorsbyreachinglevelsofproficiency:redlevel,bluelevel,andgoldlevel.Asstudentsmovethroughthelevels,theyreceivepraise,privileges,andprizesandmonthlycelebrations.
*Atthediscretionoftheprincipaland/ortheprincipal’sdesignee,studentpropertythatisbroughttoschoolandcausingadistractionordisruptiontotheschoolenvironmentareprohibited.Theywillbetakenandparentsmustcometotheschooltoreceivethestudent’sproperty.
AlthoughPBISisourchosenmethodforbehaviormanagement,studentsmayreceiveminorreferralsormajorreferralsbasedonstaffand/orfacultydiscretion.Studentswhoreceiveafourthminorreferralwillbereferredtoadministrationandthatreferralmaybeprocessedasamajorreferral.
Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary follows all district policies related to harassment and bullying. Cabarrus County Schools has adopted a zero-tolerance policy on harassment and bullying. Districtparent/communityinvolvementplanandSchool-ParentCompactisdistributedto parentsandstudentsintheParent-StudentHandbook,whichisdistributedannually,atthe beginningofeachschoolyear(providedinEnglishandinSpanish).Teachersandparentsareaskedto reviewthehandbookandpolicieswiththestudentsatthebeginningoftheyear. Parentsthensignandreturntheacknowledgementform.II. ● Theuseofschoolsystemtechnologicalresources,suchascomputers,smartphones,tablets,e-readers andotherelectronicdevices,networks,andtheInternet,isaprivilege,notarightforemployeesand students.● Annually,allstudentsandstaffmustbetrainedaboutappropriateonlinebehavior.Suchtraining mustcovertopicssuchascyber-bullyingandinteractingwithothersonsocialnetworkingwebsites andinchatrooms.● Schoolsystemtechnologicalresourcesareprovidedforschool-relatedpurposesonly.Acceptableuses ofsuchtechnologicalresourcesarelimitedtoactivitiesthatsupportlearningandteaching.● Studentsandemployeesmustcomplywithallapplicableboardpolicies,administrative regulations,andschoolstandardsandrulesinusingtechnologicalresources.Allapplicablelaws, includingthoserelatingtocopyrightsandtrademarks,confidentialinformation,andpublicrecords, applytotechnologicalresourceuse.Anyusethatviolatesstateorfederallawisstrictlyprohibited.● Nouseroftechnologicalresources,includingapersonsendingorreceivingelectroniccommunications, mayengageincreating,intentionallyaccessing,downloading,storing,printingortransmittingimages, graphics(includingstillormovingpictures),soundfiles,textfiles,documents,messagesorother materialthatisobscene,defamatory,profane,pornographic,harassingorconsideredtobeharmfulto minors.● Usersoftechnologicalresourcesmaynotsendelectroniccommunicationsfraudulently(i.e.,by misrepresentingtheidentityofthesender).● Usersareprohibitedfromusinganotherindividual’scomputeraccount.● Before a student may use the Internet for any purpose, the student’s parent must be made aware of the possibility that the student could obtain access to inappropriate material. The parent and student must sign a consent form acknowledging that the student user is responsible for appropriate use of the Internet and consenting to monitoring by school system personnel of the student’s e-mail communication and use of the Internet (see acknowledgment form at the end of the handbook).
TheBoardisawarethatthereisinformationontheInternetthatisnotrelatedtotheeducationalprogram.TheBoardalsoisawarethattheInternetmayprovideinformationandopportunitiestocommunicateonsubjectsthatarenotsuitableforschool-agechildrenandthatmanyparentswouldfindobjectionable.Schoolsystempersonnelshalltakereasonableprecautionstopreventstudentsfromhavingaccesstoinappropriatematerials,suchasviolence,nudity,obscenityorgraphiclanguagethatdoesnotservealegitimatepedagogicalpurpose.TheSuperintendentordesigneeshallensurethattheInternetserviceproviderortechnologypersonnelhaveinstalledatechnologyprotectionmeasurethatblocksorfiltersInternetaccesstoaudioorvisualdepictionsthatareobscene,thatareconsideredpornographicorthatareharmfultominors.Schoolofficialsmaydisablesuchfiltersforanadultwhousesaschool-ownedcomputerforbonafideresearchorotherlawfuleducationalpurposes.SchoolsystempersonelmaynotrestrictIntenetaccesstoideas,perspectivesorviewpointsiftherestrictionismotivatedsolelybydisapprovaloftheideasbydisapprovaloftheideasinvolved.
