Colonial House Design Background About Philip Tyers: Philip Tyers is Afro-Zen Furniture Designer. He lives, breathes and creates it for clients across the world; providing them with niche and up- market spaces which symbolize Africa and the tribal aesthetic thereof. Philip Tyers qualified as a fashion designer from the Cape Peninsula Technikon, only to realize that his passion lay with interior design and furniture manufacture. He translated his skills for fashion and design into the ability to work with natural and organic products to create oversized, bold pieces of furniture. Colonial House Design was started by Philip and his partner and wife; Nicky, 10 years ago on Long Street. As the brand has evolved to be more up-market, niche and tribal; the showroom was moved to the appropriate setting of the Cape Quarter – the heart of design in Cape Town. CHD provided the platform for Philip to branch out and create his own range, Philip Tyers Furniture Collection; translating the African tribal aesthetic into functional design. He has extensive experience in the boutique hospitality market as well as the trendy nightlife scene; having been commissioned to design and style a number of leading night clubs in Cape Town. Philip believes it is essential that each piece of completed furniture carries a soul and has emotion; which helps create a vibe and feel for a room – whether it’s the glam of a night club, the tranquillity of an outdoor lounge or a commercial space – design is paramount. About Philip Tyers:

symbolize Africa and the tribal aesthetic thereof.

About Nicky Tyers:

Nicky Tyers’ passion for turnkey interior design lies in the final product – watching a space go from a concept

on a page to a finished product; ready for the front cover of any magazine.

After completing her degree in Social Sciences at the University of Cape Town, Nicky soon realized that her

passion and talents lay in the field of design and subsequently studied further at the Boston College School

of Design to enhance her skills.

Nicky has an undoubted and unparalleled flair for creating personalized and dynamic interiors; working

closely with her clients needs and preferences.

2008 saw the growth of CHD and Nicky Tyers’ through expansion into the high-end hospitality industry in

South Africa as well as stretching her wings to encompass a number of international projects.

The Brief

Total Media were commissioned by CHD to:

– Profile Nicky and Philip Tyers in their various capacities- Nicky as the interior

design guru in residential and boutique hospitality properties and Philip as an

interior design consultant whose expertise lies in amplifying commercial properties.

– To obtain exposure for the many 5 star homes that CHD completes and thereby

showcasing their talents.

– To generate awareness around Philip’s signature furniture collection.

– Position CHD as ‘the’ interior designers for uniquely African chic décor appeal.

Total Media ensures that it stays in touch with all the décor editors of the leading magazines and

publications soliciting briefs and features upfront.

We compile on point, trends releases which are often used by experts for forecasting the latest

and seasonal inspiration for home décor.

We supply high quality photographic images to many publications – a picture speaks a thousand

words – ensuring that CHD are regularly covered in the correct target audience publications.

Total Media, also looks for strategic partnerships for the design duo, most notably as judges for

the décor of the Amarula Best Retreats in Africa Awards, once again positioning the pair as

influencers and opinion leaders in their chosen industry.
