It was great to see so many children coming to school to purchase a gift for their Dads or significant male role model in their lives … as a proud dad myself I know how much Dads appreciate these things! Father’s Day Breakfast Our staff are looking forward to seeing another large turn-out for this Friday’s Father’s Day Breakfast, starting at 7.30am in our school hall. We have planned not only a great breakfast menu but some fun activi- ties as well. You and your child/ren might like to view a great online Maths Program (Mathletics) in our P & C Computer Lab, play a game of Volleyball in our fantastic COLA, read one of our new books that were donated by some of our lovely families during Education Week (in the library) or play a game in the canteen area. Staffing Mr. Anderson will be on leave throughout this week and Mrs. Vaughan, Mrs. Auinger and I (Mr. Fran- cis) will be replacing him during his term of absence. All matters pertaining to the School Principal this week should be directed to one of the aforementioned Assistant Principals. District Athletics! Congratulations to all of the students who competed at the District Athletics Carnival at Mingara last Thurs- day and Friday. A special thanks to Team Manager, Mr. Noel Payne for looking after the Chertsey PS tent and ensuring our students were ready for their events. Also, a huge thanks to those parents who were able to assist with transport to and from the carnival. I was fortunate enough to attend the District Carnival on both days and was very pleased by the positive manner in which our students competed. Well done to Calisto Cook (Junior Girls High Jump) and Hayden Doe (13 Years Boys 100 m) who have gained selection in the BWPSSA Athletics Team who will be competing at the Regional Carnival at Sydney Athletics Centre, Homebush on Monday 20 September. students have participated in the “Learning for Living” theme through collaborative story-telling / story-writing. Each class will be creating a “storybird” which is a visual online story. Each class’s storybird displays the students’ creative and imagi-native skills as well as the ability to work together as a team to construct a class project. The students’ stories can be viewed on the school website next week. Well done to Nick of K-6D for winning our recent Hat Draw. I am sure Nick will enjoy the prize of a Slushie from our school canteen. My thanks to Mrs Dyer and the school’s P&C for supporting this initiative. Greg Francis for John Anderson

Year 6 Farewell It is now that time of year where the Stage 3 teachers start thinking about end of year activities including the Year 6 Farewell. We are looking for a group of Year 6 parents who are willing to meet with us and discuss the organi-sation of this important milestone in your child’s life. We anticipate a similar event to past years (dinner and bowl-ing) but we are open to ideas. A note was handed out last week asking for volunteers. Please see us if you are interested in helping. Mr Francis, Miss Wiseman, Mrs Vaughan and Ms Daley Choir 2010 Last Friday, the choir, accompanied by Miss Susie and myself, travelled to Sydney for the Festival of Choral Mu-sic at the iconic Sydney Opera House. The day started with a (rather long!) walk from Milson’s Point Station across the Harbour Bridge, down through the Rocks, past Circular Quay and finally, ending at the Opera House. The choir then participated in a Dress Rehearsal along with 24 other Primary Schools from across NSW. After a dinner break with their parents, the choir got ready for the moment they had been working towards all year - the concert itself. I’m sure all who were present would agree our students were absolutely amazing as part of the combined choir, and had everyone spellbound with their extraordinary singing talent! Miss Susie and I were ex-tremely proud of not only their behaviour, but also their enthusiasm and professionalism. Congratulations on a wonderful performance! Thank you to those parents, family members and friends who supported the choir over the last seven months and in particular, on Friday. Without this continued support, your children would not be able to participate in these wonderful opportunities. Thank you also to Miss Susie who has been a wonderful choir teacher and whose ex-pertise we value greatly. Choir will continue through the remainder of the year as we still have many other per-formances to prepare for including the upcoming school concert, Presentation Day and Year 6 Farewell assem-bly. Finally, many choir and recorder group students will also attend the “Wicked” excursion next Wednesday 8th Sep-tember (Week 8). The group will travel by train to the Capitol Theatre in Sydney for the 1pm matinee session. A reminder note with further details will go home later this week. Miss Wiseman

Gosford City Reads Last Tuesday, K – 2 had an exciting morning at Gosford Library, Erina. Gosford City Reads is an initiative of Gosford City Council which aims to promote early childhood literacy throughout the community. The children were treated to a tour of the library and given information about joining. They listened to stories read by the librarian, and even got to take part in the storytelling with props and masks. The stories, ‘The Waterhole’ and ‘The Wrong Book’ are available for borrowing from our library. If you and your children are not already mem-bers of Gosford Library, maybe now would be a good time to join. Our thanks to Nada Potter and Lisa Seaman for organising this treat for us.

This week we started to plan our gardens and with thanks to Mr Martin and Bunnings we hope to be ready to plant in a few weeks. Gecko Club meet most Monday’s (weather permitting) at Lunch One play time outside K6D’s room. All students welcome!
