Four major approaches to the study of cognitive processes:

Experimental cognitive psychology: Experimental methods, mostly in the laboratory;

Cognitive science: Use of computational methods in order to simulate cognitive processes;

Cognitive neuropsychology: Examination of patients with brain damage;

Cognitive neuroscience: Use of brain mapping techniques.
