Why Take Physics In High School?

Physics is fundamental to every other science and to most major technological

innovations of the past century. Moreover, physics teaches critical thinking and problem solving skills that are useful no matter what

career a student pursues.

Coffee High’s 4-H Club is open to

all students with no membership fee. Students have the opportunity

to participate in local, district, and state events that promote hands

on learning. Events offered include District Project Achievement

(speech/presentation contest), livestock shows, target sports

events, judging events, district and state camps and conferences, fair

events, community service opportunities, and leadership

opportunities. Meetings are usual-ly held after school hours on

Mondays about every two weeks during the school year. A complete

calendar is available on our website at: http://coffee4h.org.

Feel like an adventure this coming summer? Why not go to Europe?

A 9-day trip to London and Paris is being planned for May 28-June 5, 2016 by EF Tours (Education First Tours) and Lisa Tierney, Theatre Arts director. The tour

is open to high school students, parents, and educators. For more information,

contact Mrs. Tierney at [email protected]

(FYI, if we can get a total of 20 people to

travel in our group, we get our own personal tour. That is we won't be

blended with other schools and we can call the shots on what we would like to

do.)

Principal’s Corner

Welcome Back 2015!

Hello and Welcome to Coffee High School!

A new school year is upon us, and I hope you have had a peaceful and relaxing summer. We have a lot to be proud of based on the accomplishments of the 2014-15 school year. I am firmly convinced that the students and staff at Coffee High School are among the best in the state. We are looking forward to this school year with great anticipation and excitement!

To recap the past school year, Coffee High School received recognition at the national level for Advanced Placement participation and scores on the Advanced Placement exams. Coffee High School also received recognition at the state level by being named a Title I High Progress Reward School. In addition, Coffee High School was named an Advanced Placement STEM Achievement School by the Georgia Department of Education. Through our partnership with Wiregrass Technical College and South Georgia State College, Coffee High dual enrollment has increased significantly. Our summer STEM internship program with our local businesses and industries continues to grow. We had a record number of graduates, a record number of honor graduates, and 23 Zell Miller Scholarship recipients. Some of our students have continued their education at the best colleges and universities in the country.

At the building level we have completed our first full year of the TKES evaluation process and our goal is to continue to improve in our profession and our product. We also implemented the Student Learning Objectives (SLOs); this was a monumental undertaking. The SLO process will allow us to measure a student’s academic growth against students from around the state. This process will drive instruction and allow staff to make adjustments to meet the needs of our students.

Great and exciting things are ahead for Coffee High School! It is my pledge to the students and staff to create an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to learning, a place that is enjoyable to work and learn, and a place where we can work as a team, to meet our mission of “Destination Graduation for College, Career, and Life.”

I encourage parents and other stakeholders to please contact us if you have a question or concern. As always, IT’S GREAT TO BE A TROJAN!
