WELCOME FROM THE COE CHAIRMAN
INTERNATIONAL GUEST SPEAKER
Dear Colleagues
I would encourage you to start making your plans to attend this year’s major AOA COE meeting being held on the 8–10 June 2016 at the new convention space at Ayers Rock Resort.
The theme is ‘Trauma in the Outback’ and we have configured a programme covering all aspects of orthopaedic trauma care, focusing on fractures we see every day in our practice. Our invited overseas speaker is Rick Buckley from Canada who will be sharing his wealth of experience in orthopaedic trauma care.
For the first time the Australasian Orthopaedic Trauma Society (AOTS) will hold their Annual Scientific Meeting at the same location commencing in the afternoon on Friday 10 June and concluding in the afternoon on the 11 June 2016. The AOTS Annual Scientific Meeting that will immediately follow the COE meeting which will cover orthopaedic related free papers, research, fellowships and workshops.
We are excited to try this new location in Uluru in an attempt to bring education to our rural and remote surgeons. Being in the centre of our great country, we would like to see attendees from the both sides of our country on the east and west coast.
I look forward to seeing you in Uluru.
Kind regards,
Andrew Oppy COE Chairman
Richard Buckley is the Professor of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.

WELCOME FROM THE AOTS PRESIDENTDear Colleagues and Friends,
It is my pleasure to invite you all to the Red Centre for the Australasian Orthopaedic Trauma Society’s second annual scientific meeting. Our Society meeting this year directly follows the AOA Trauma cOe, which program is overseen by the AOTS and organised by our treasurer Andrew Oppy. During the June long weekend you can get your comprehensive trauma update whether you are a specialist trauma surgeon, a general orthopaedic surgeon taking on trauma on calls, a subspecialty orthopaedic surgeon managing some trauma in your area or a trainee. Professor Rick Buckley from Calgary is known to many of us, I am keen to see the interaction with him related to the clinical, research and educational collaboration among the Canadian Trauma centres, which has major relevance to us in Australia. The AOTS program
organised by Marinis Pirpiris is a great addition to the instructional nature of the COE, it supposed to address many interdisciplinary logistics of trauma care, the potential re-definition of the orthopaedic trauma surgeon in the context of changing environment in our trauma systems. We hope that most academically active orthopaedic surgeons and trainees submit their abstracts for our free-paper sessions, which will cover both basic and clinical sciences. See you all and your families and friends in June at uluru!
Best regards,
Zsolt Balogh AOTS President
