野菜でヘルシーに

最近よく耳にする「野菜ソムリエ」という言葉。その言葉のとおり、野菜の一番美味しい旬の時期を見極め、美味しく賞味出来る食べ方や、家庭で野菜の鮮度を損なわずに維持する保存方法等を私たちに提供する職業。今、そんな野菜ソムリエ達の中で、熱～い視線が向けられている野菜がある。それが「トマト」だ。

東京では、「トマト」をメインに楽しむ専門のトマトレストランが誕生！連日、若いOLやカップル等で賑わっている。そこでまず驚かされるのは、トマトの種類の多さだ。普段よく利用するスーパー等では、決して見ることのない、珍しい形や色をしたトマト達の数々。レストランのHPで紹介されているトマトの数だけでも何と22種類！(何故か眺めているだけでもとっても楽しい気分になります！)勿論レストランでは、それぞれのトマトの個性を引き立たせるメニューが考案されていて、前菜からデザートまでのコース料理に、それぞれの料理にあったトマトが使い分けされている。レストランで食事をする客のほとんどが、「へぇ～、トマトってこんな味のものもあるんだ～。」と、改めてトマトの美味しさを再発見できるらしい。

それにしても、トマトの進化はすさまじい。最近では、トマトが美容に良いということもあり、これからますます寒くなる季節に嬉しい、体を温めてくれる料理として「トマト鍋」や「トマトラーメン」等もお勧めだ。それから、ダイエットに励む女性や肥満が気になるおじ様にも嬉しいのが、野菜のケーキ専門店。通常のケーキに比べ、カロリーが低く押さえられるのが最大のポイント。これからの時代は、ただ美味しいだけではなく、美味しい上にヘルシーでなくっちゃ！さ～て、今年の我が家のクリスマスケーキは、ヘルシーに「自家製トマトジャムのロールケーキ」でもお取り寄せしてみようかしら・・

Eat Veggies and Be Healthy!

In Japan, these days we often hear the term “vegetable sommelier.” As the word suggests, it denotes an occupation that provides to us all ways of enjoying vegetables – like how to eat seasonal vegetables and how to store veg-etables so that their freshness remains intact. Among these vegetable aficionados, a veg-etable is attracting much attention these days – the humble tomato.

Tokyo has now seen the birth of specialist “to-mato” restaurants serving tomato-based dishes as their specialty. It is very popular among young office ladies and couples. What is sur-prising here is the amazing number of variet-ies of tomatoes. Many types of rare tomatoes that can never be seen at the grocery stores we frequent are all lined up here! A whooping 22 types of tomatoes have been introduced in the home page of one of these restaurant. (It’s a lot of fun to just look at them!) At the restaurant, they have come up with a menu that brings out the flavor of each type of tomato, and there is a whole line up of course menus right from starters on to the desserts. Customers who visit the restaurant are always surprised to discover that the simple tomato has such a wide array of flavors.

But we have to admit that there is a crazy frenzy within the booming popularity of tomatoes. These days it is said that tomatoes are good for the skin, and there are new versions of tradi-tional winter favorites – tomato-nabe (hotpot) and tomato ramen. Another attraction for la-dies who are trying to diet, or middle-aged men who are trying to fight obesity, are vegetable cake shops. The greatest advantage of this is that vegetable cakes have much lesser calories than the normal cakes. We seem to now be moving towards an age of “tasty and healthy” rather than just tasty! For Christmas this year, one could bring home a healthy homemade tomato jam roll cake!!

Au japon, on entend fréquemment la phrase << un sommelier de légumes>> ces derniers temps. Il s’y connait en légumes et nous montre les meilleures façons de les déguster et aussi de les conserver afin de les garder plus frais le plus longtemps possible. Parmi les sommeliers de légumes, la tomate est la grande vedette ces temps-ci.

À Tokyo, un resto qui en a fait sa spécialité vient d'ouvrir! Il y a beaucoup de jeunes femmes et de couples qui le fréquentent. Ce qui est étonnant, c'est la grande variété de tomates qu’on y sert,dont la plupart ne se retrouvent pas dans les supermar-chés près de chez nous. Ce sont des tomates de for-mes uniques et très colorées. Selon le site web du resto, il y aurait 22 variétés de tomates différentes. (Juste les regarder, ça me remplit de joie!) Bien sûr, le menu du resto est quand même assez recherché pour permettre de bien relever le goût de chaque variété de tomates en commençant par l'entrée jusqu'au dessert. Il paraît que la plupart des clients laissent de très bons commentaires comme << je n'ai jamais goûté une tomate comme celle-là! >> en redécouvrant les merveilles de la tomate.

Il y a eu toute une évolution quant à l'utilisation de la tomate qui est tout de même extraordinaire. (Autrefois au Japon, on mangeait des tomates gé-néralement en salade.) Comme les tomates sont bonne pour la beauté, on vous recommande la to-mate nabe ( pot-au-feu Japonaise ) ou la tomate ra-men ( nouilles japonaise) qui nous réchauffe bien. C’est génial pour la saison qui s’en vient.Aussi je vous recommande une pâtisserie où l’on vend des gâteaux aux légumes pour les gens qui prennent soin de leur ligne ou qui craignent l’obé-sité. Ils sont donc beaucoup moins caloriques que les gâteaux traditionnels.Les bons gâteaux d’aujourd’hui doivent êtres non seulement délicieux mais aussi bons pour la santé!Pourrais-je commander le gâteau roulé avec de la confiture maison aux tomates pour Noël cette an-née?

旅館日本で国内旅行する時、楽しみの一つは食事と宿。普段と違う、その土地特有の味や情緒を楽しむことが、旅の醍醐味ともいえる。その土地に溶け込んだ雰囲気を味わうには、小さな旅館に泊まるのも一つの方法だ。

旅館とホテルの違いを一言で言うなら、洋式と和式の違いと言える。ホテルではベッドで寝て、旅館では布団で寝る。ホテルでは靴でカーペットの上をそのまま歩き、旅館の部屋は畳なので靴を脱ぐ。ホテル内は、寝間着で歩くことはできないが、旅館内は浴衣（和風の寝間着）で歩いても大丈夫。ホテルでは、プライベートが保たれていて、従業員が勝手に入ってくる事はまずないが、旅館では仲居さんが食事を運んだり、布団を敷いたりするために入って来る。ホテルでは食事が別になっている場合が多いが、旅館では、豪華な食事を部屋に運んでくれて、ゆったりと寛ぎながら食事を楽しめるところが多い。面白いことに、ホテルのスタッフは男性が中心、旅館は女性が中心。

こんな風に、日本と北米の文化の違いを身をもって体験できるのが「旅館」だ。どちらを好むかも人それぞれ。ホテルを選ぶ人は「非日常を楽しみたい」、旅館を選ぶ人は「家庭の延長で、ゆったり寛ぎたい」という人が多いそう。ぜひ、どちらも体験して、比べてみてほしい。

お風呂ホテルと旅館の違いのもっとも重要な部分。それはお風呂ではないだろうか。多くの旅館が、大浴場にかなり力を入れている。客のほとんどがお風呂をことのほか楽しみにしているからだ。お風呂で旅館を選ぶ人も少なくない。旅館の大浴場は、男湯と女湯に分かれていて、もちろん水着など着けずに全裸で入浴する。家では、家族にすら見せない裸体だが、なぜか大浴場だと他人がいても恥ずかしくないのは不思議である。「露天風呂」といって、野外にお風呂があることもある。ひんやりした外気の中で、あったかいお湯につかると、日頃の疲れなど吹き飛んでしまうほど気持ちがいいのだ。

Ryokan (Japanese style hotel)When traveling in Japan, trying Japanese food and accommodations are exciting fea-tures to try out. They enable us to appreci-ate the peculiar atmosphere of the places we visit. Staying in a small Ryokan (Japanese style hotel) is a way to do this.

A brief explanation of the difference be-tween hotels and Ryokans would be the dif-ference between the Western and Japanese styles. For example, in hotels we sleep on beds while in Ryokans we sleep in Futons. In addition, in hotels we walk on carpets with our shoes on, while in Ryokans we have to take off our shoes before we step on the tatami mattresses. Moreover, in ho-tels we cannot walk around with bathrobes on, while in Ryokans we can walk around in Yukata/Yokui (Japanese style pyjamas provided by the Ryokans). In contrast, the privacy is highly respected in hotels; there-fore, there is no risk of having maids coming into our room by surprise. In Ryokans, the Nakai-san (waitress) enter your room when they bring you your food and prepare your futon. Furthermore, meals in hotels are usu-ally charged separately; whereas in Ryokans, the accommodation plans commonly in-clude luxurious food services, which you can enjoy in your room. This option allows you to enjoy your food in a relaxed manner. Interestingly enough, in hotels most of the employees are men; as oppose to Ryokans, where the Nakai-san are predominantly consisted of women.

As these examples show, staying in a Ryokan gives you the opportunity to experience the cultural differences between the Japanese and Western societies. In the end, the choice between the western and Japanese style depends on your preference. Japanese peo-ple tend to choose to stay in hotels because they want to experience something differ-ent from their everyday lives. Others who choose to stay in Ryokans do so because they prefer to enjoy the relaxed mood as an extension of their homes. Personally, I rec-ommend that you experience both styles of accommodation if you have the chance.

Ofuro (bath)Additionally, another important difference between the hotels and the Ryokans is the types of bath they offer. Many Ryokans provide a large bathhouse because it is one of their main attractions. In fact, many Japanese people consider the types of bathhouses included at the Ryokans when choosing the place. Bathhouses are separat-ed between in two, the men’s bath and the women’s bath. When we enter the baths, we have to take off all of our clothes, and of course, we do not wear a bathing suite. It is interesting how Japanese people, who are embarrassed to show their naked bod-ies to their family members, find it less em-barrassing to be naked in bathhouses with total strangers. We often find bathhouses located in the open air; these are called “Ro-tenburo”. It is very refreshing to soak into the warm water in the slightly cool open air, which blows away our accumulated fatigue of our everyday life.

Les ryôkanLes repas et les hôtels sont un des plaisirs associés aux voyages au Japon. L’attrait du voyage tient à ce qu’il permet de briser la routine en nous faisant découvrir des sa-veurs et des impressions propres à une ré-gion. Une des manières de se plonger entiè-rement dans l’atmosphère du lieu que l’on visite est de séjourner dans un petit ryôkan (auberge japonaise). Pour expliquer très simplement la différence entre un ryôkan et un hôtel, on pourra dire que le premier est de style japonais, tandis que le second est de style occidental. À l’hô-tel, on dort dans un lit ; dans un ryôkan, on se couche sur un futon. On peut marcher avec ses chaussures sur le tapis de la cham-bre d’hôtel ; par contre, comme les cham-bres des ryôkan ont un plancher couvert de tatamis, on se déchausse avant d’entrer. Par ailleurs, s’il n’est pas de mise de se prome-ner en pyjama dans un hôtel, dans le cas des ryôkan, rien n’empêche de déambuler vêtu d’un yukata (une sorte de pyjama japonais). De plus, l’hôtel permet de préserver son in-timité, car il est plutôt rare que les employés entrent dans une chambre sans permission. En revanche, les employés des ryôkan péné-treront dans les chambres pour apporter les repas, ou encore pour disposer les futons. Enfin, les repas d’hôtel sont la plupart du temps servis à l’extérieur de la chambre, alors que dans beaucoup de ryôkan, il est possible de se faire apporter un fastueux repas que l’on déguste dans sa chambre en relaxant. Il est intéressant de remarquer que le personnel des hôtels est principalement composé d’hommes, alors que celui des ryôkan compte une majorité de femmes.

Le ryôkan permet donc de faire l’expérience des différences entre les cultures japonaise et nord-américaine. Chacun a sa préféren-ce : d’une part, un grand nombre de person-nes qui aiment davantage l’hôtel disent que celui-ci leur permet de se détacher de leur routine. D’autre part, beaucoup d’adeptes des ryôkan affirment que ce type d’établis-sement est une extension de leur foyer, et qu’ils peuvent donc y relaxer pleinement. Essayez les deux pour voir, et comparez!

Le furo Quel est l’élément qui distingue le plus les ryôkan des hôtels? À n’en pas douter, c’est le furo! C’est ainsi qu’on nomme les bains japonais. Beaucoup de ryôkan apportent un soin considérable à leurs bains communs, car presque tous les clients ont de grandes attentes envers le furo. En effet, un bon nom-bre de personnes choissent même le ryôkan en fonction du furo... Les bains communs des ryôkan comprennent un bain pour les hommes et un autre pour les femmes : on se baigne bien entendu sans maillot de bain, complètement nu. Il n’est pas gênant de se trouver dans un bain commun, ce qui est étrange quand on pense que l’on ne montre jamais notre corps nu même à notre propre famille! Il existe aussi des bains extérieurs qu’on appelle « rotemburo ». En plongeant dans l’eau chaude avec l’air frais qui nous entoure, on se sent si bien que la fatigue accumulée dans le quotidien se dissipe ins-tantanément.

オタワでお客様におつりを渡した際「日本人でしょ」と言われた。アジア人=中国人的な考え方の人が多い中で、日本人だとわかったと言うことは、日本人の友人がいるか、もしくは、行ったり住んだりしたことがあるのかと思って聞いてみたら、お金の渡し方だそうだ。「お金を持ってない方の手を添えておつりを渡すのは日本人だけよ」と言われた。日本人だけなのかどうかはわかんないけど、日本に居てサービス過剰だなと思うことも少なくはない。

※小さなケーキ屋で小さなケーキを２つ買った。小さな箱に入れて、「出口までお持ちします」と出口まで見送ってくれる。→好きじゃな

い。※宅配便は細かい時間指定が出来るし、「今いますか？」と電話もしてくれる。→便利！※ETCやATM、自動販売機など機械がよく喋る。→うるさい。※タクシーの扉は自動で開き、運転手が自己紹介する時もある。→外国では、扉が開くまでついくせで待ってしまう。※お釣りの金額が多い時、お札を数えながら渡してくれる。→自分で数えられる。※ガソリンスタンドの給油中に窓を拭いてくれゴミも捨ててくれる。→自分でするからいいのに。

サービスされるのは悪くないことだけど、マニュアル的な気持ちのないサービスはうっとおしいだけだったりする。これが当たり前だと思って外国に住むと「不便だ」と勘違いしたりする。仕事を楽しんでる延長のサービスは気持ちいいのになぁ。

Service country

A customer said me ‘You are Japanese, right?’ when I handed the customer some changes in Ottawa. However mostly people think Asian equal Chinese there, the customer said me ‘Japanese’ directly. I thought the customer have Japanese friend or have been to Japan or something like that. But the customer said me again, ‘It’s only Japanese, when who hand customer changes with hands.’I am not sure it is true or not ‘only Japanese’ but sometimes I am tired of too much service in Japan.For example,※Clerk see customer off with bringing their shopping bag to at the entrance even store is tiny. → I don’t like it.※We can order exactly time that courier delivery service and the deliver come to home on time. → This is really convenience!※ATM, ETC and Vending machine, everyone are talkative. → noisy!※Taxi is automatic door. Some drivers introduce by themselves before drive. → Don’t wait to open the door automatically except in Japan.※Mostly cashiers count bills of change slowly for us. → I can do that.※In gas station, clerk wipe the windows and threw away garbage during filling gas. → Don’t need it but thanks!

However some services are of course really nice, I hate an external display service or service without heart. Japanese have to pay at-tention these services are not common in overseas. I think really good services come with enjoy working.

Noël en famille!En Amérique, la fête de Noël est très importante puisqu’elle commémore la naissance de Jésus, qui comme vous le savez, est reconnu comme étant le Messie chez les chrétiens. Dans un passé pas si lointain, la fête de Noël avait une connotation très religieuse au Québec. Elle se fêtait en famille et les célébrations débutaient le 24 décembre après la messe de minuit. D’où l’expression “Réveillon de Noël”. Aux petites heures du matin on réveille les enfants, puis on s’installe autour de la table pour partager un copieux repas, qui à l’époque était souvent constitué soit d’une dinde ou d’une tourtière (pâté à base de viandes de gibier et de pomme de terre). Et puis, les enfants découvraient avec excitation les différentes surprises qui se trouvaient dans leur bas de noël, ceux-ci accrochés au pied de la cheminée. Aujourd’hui, cette fête a perdu sa saveur religieuse au profit d’un esprit plus mercantile. Certes, plusieurs continueront d’aller à la messe de minuit, mais pour des raisons davantage folkloriques que religieuses. Pour la majorité des jeunes québécois(es), Noël est associé maintenant au Père Noël (qui a été commercialisé en grande partie par Coca Cola). Ce personnage mythique, vivant au pôle Nord, distribue des cadeaux aux enfants qui ont été sages durant l’année. Il est coutume également de se donner des cadeaux entre adultes lors de la soirée. C’est pourquoi cette période de l’année est devenue une activité commerciale très lucrative pour les commerçants. Le Boxing Day en est un exemple parfait. Cette journée, habituellement le 26 décembre, offre des rabais très alléchants pour ceux et celles qui veulent faire des économies. Mais armez-vous de patience, car cet événement est très achalandé et les files d’attente sont très longues… Mais malgré la commercialisation de Noël, cette fête demeure encore une belle occasion pour se retrouver en famille et célébrer notre joie de vivre!

Christmas for family!In North America, Christmas is very important as it commemorates the birth of Jesus, who is recognized as the Messiah for Christians. Previously in Quebec, Christmas had a very religious connotation and celebrated with our families starting with midnight mass; which is where the expression “Midnight supper of Christmas” originates. During the early hours of the morning after mass, parents wake their children and everybody gathers around the table to share a delicious meal, which at the time usually consisted of either of a turkey or tourtière (pie containing potatoes and game meat). Following this, the children discovered various surprises in their Christmas stockings which hung close to the fireplace. Today, this type of celebration has lost its religious zeal giving in to the profit of a mercantile spirit. Admittedly, few still attend midnight mass, but more for the folkloric aspect than the religious aspect. For the majority of the young Quebecers, Christmas is associated with Santa Claus, who is marketed mainly by Coca Cola. Santa, who hails from the North Pole, distributes gifts to children who were well-behaved during the year. It’s also common to exchange gifts between adults. For this reason, this time of the year is a very lucrative business time for tradesmen, with Boxing Day as the perfect example. Boxing Day day, usually on December 26, offers very attractive reductions for those who are on a foray for good deals. However, patient a virtue as Boxing Day is very busy and line-ups are very long. But even if Christmas is now a mostly commercial holiday, it’s still an opportunity to get together with family and celebrate life!

家族でクリスマス！アメリカでは、クリスマスはキリスト教徒にとって、救世主として知られるイエスの生誕を祝うとても重要な行事です。そう遠くない昔、ケベックではクリスマスはそういった宗教的意味合いが大いに含まれた行事でした。真夜中のミサに行った後、家族でお祝いを始めます。まさに「クリスマスの真夜中の晩餐」といわれる様に。ミサの後、朝早いうちから大人は子供たちを起こし、みんなでテーブルを囲んで当時よく食べられていた七面鳥やトルティーヤ（ジャガイモや猟獣肉で作るパイ）等のおいしいご馳走を頂きます。そして子供たちは暖炉のそばに掛けられたクリスマス用の靴下の中に、たくさんの嬉しい発見をするのです。今日ではこのお祝いは宗教的な色合いを失い、商業主義の利益に取って代わられています。もちろん今でも真夜中のミサに行く人たちはいますが、宗教的意味合いよりも民族的な意味合いが強いようです。ケベックに住むほとんどの若者達にとっては、クリスマスといえばサンタクロース（主にコカコーラによって売り込まれた様ですが）でしょう。この人物は、北極に住み、この一年いい子にしていた子供たちにプレゼントを配って回ります。また、大人同士でもプレゼントを交換するのも通例となっています。このため商売人にとってこの時期は一年の中でも大変な稼ぎ時なのです。ボクシングデーなど、その顕著な例です。この特別な日、大体毎年12月26日にあたる日はとてもいい買い物がしたい、と思っている人たちには魅力的な値引き品が並びます。ただ、辛抱が肝心です。この日はとても人出が多く、長い行列に並ばないといけませんから・・・。たとえ今日、クリスマスが商業主義のお祭りになっているとしても、家族みんなで一緒に人生の喜びをお祝いしましょう！

故きを温ねて新しきを知るAUBERGE「SAINT-ANTOINE」

先日、ケベック現 代 美 術 館 の 展 示物 を 見 に 行く機 会 を 利 用して、美術 館 隣 にあるA U B E R G E「S A I N T-ANTOINE」に宿泊した。この周辺は、ケベック市が15年の歳月を掛けて再開発に力を入れたところで、2005年にオープンしたこのホテルも、昔は港に隣接した倉庫のひとつとして使われていたところだ。ケベックの旧市街地は、1985年にユネスコが世界文化遺産に認定した街だけあって、さまざまな条例で建造物の保護が行われている。そのおかげもあって、歴史を尊重しながらも現代感覚を取り入れたリノベーションを施している建物が多い。

AUBERGE「SAINT-ANTOINE」も、石壁が古都の情緒をいかにも感じさせ、建物の中に入ると、高い天井や木の香りにホッとさせられる。そして何よりもお洒落なのが、古い食器もしくはその破片が、壁にオブジェとして陳列されているところだ。それまであまり考古学的な価値がなかったものが、豊かな発想による“見せる手法”によって、再び息吹きを与えられたよい例だろう。他にも客室へつながるエレベーターや部屋番号のプレート脇、客室内のサイド・テーブルに埋め込まれた小さなガラス・ケースの中などに、食器の破片やアクセサリー、パイプなどが陳列されていて、オリジナルでモダンなアクセントとなっている。プラス・ロワヤルやプチ・シャンプレン通りにも歩いて直ぐなので、夜遅く散歩に出ると、喧噪から解き放たれた古都の別の顔を垣間見ることができる。余談になるが、Steven Spielberg監督、Leonardo DiCaprioと Tom Hanksが主演した「Catch Me If You Can（2002）」は、この周辺がロケに使われているので必見だ。　時代は流れても、そこに生きた人の思いは変わらない。観光シーズンがひと段落して落ち着きを取り戻した古都ケベックに、いにしえの人々からの優しいメッセージを受信しにでかけよう。

Visiting the old to learn the newAUBERGE ”SAINT-ANTOINE”

The other day, I stayed at Auberge “Saint-Antoine” located the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec where I had gone to see an exhibition.Quebec city has emphasized the de-velopment of this area for 15 years. This hotel used to be one of the ware-houses next to the port, which was opened in 2005.Since the old streets of Quebec city were acknowledged as one of the World Cultural Heritage sites by UNES-CO in 1985, the buildings are protect-ed by a variety of regulations. Because of that, there are many buildings built with modern ideas but at the same time keeping their sense of history.

Auberge “Saint-Antoine” is no excep-tion – the stone walls provide you with the mood of the old capital. Upon en-tering the building, the high ceilings and the wood scent immediately put you at ease. Another great touch that gives us a sense of history is the, the old tableware and their broken pieces displayed in the walls as objets d’art. It is a good example of “display tech-nique” A rich idea that gives a breath of life to the items that do not have much archaeological value until now.Broken pieces of tableware, accesso-ries and pipes etc. are displayed in the elevator leading to the guest rooms, besides the room number, you will see plates and old glass embedded into the side table in the guest room. They are original and while historical, use modern accents to show off their beauty and history.Since you can walk straight to Place Royal and Petit Champlain, you will catch a glimpse of the other side of the old capital that is free from the bustle of a big tourist city when you take a walk in the late evening. Let me say in passing that a film direc-tor, Steven Spielberg, used this area as a movie location for “Catch Me If You Can (2002)” that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks played the leading roles. So, you shouldn’t miss it!

L’autre jour, après ma visite à une expo-sition, j’ai séjourné à l’auberge Saint-An-toine située juste à côté du Musée Natio-nal des beaux-arts de Québec.La ville de Québec a beaucoup déve-loppé cette zone durant les 15 dernières années. Cet hôtel, qui n’était qu’un en-trepôt juste à côté du port, a ouvert ses portes en 2005.En 1985, les rues situées dans le Vieux Québec sont reconnues comme fai-sant partie du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Depuis lors, les bâtiments qui y sont situés sont protégés par une série de lois. De cette façon, ceux-ci ont pu préserver leurs histoires tout en étant rénovés de façon moderne.

L’auberge Saint-Antoine ne fait pas ex-ception. Vus de l’extérieur, les murs de pierres donnent l’impression que vous êtes dans la vieille capitale. Mais une fois à l’intérieur, le plafond surélevé et l’odeur du bois vous rassurent. Surtout le fait que les vieilles tables et certaines pièces de bois brisées sont montrées sur le mur en tant qu’objets d’arts. Ceci est un excellent exemple de la « technique d’affichage » qui a redon-née une seconde vie à ces objets qui n’avaient pas de valeur archéologique jusqu’à maintenant. Des bris de casseroles, des accessoi-res, des pipes, etc. sont montrées dans l’ascenseur qui mène aux chambres de l’auberge. Mis à part les numéros de chambres et la vitrine sur la table de nuit de chaque chambre, tout est d’origine mais rénové de façon à préserver l’his-toire.Quand vous marchez vers la Place Royale et le Petit Champlain, vous aurez un aperçu clair et net de la vieille capitale qui est libre de toute l’agitation d’une grande ville lorsque vous prenez une marche, même tard en soirée. Laissez-moi vous dire, en passant, qu’un directeur de film, qui n’est nul autre que Steven Spielberg, a tourné une scène dans ce quartier pour son film « Catch Me If You Can » (2002) avec les acteurs Leonardo DiCaprio et Tom Hanks, alors vous ne devez pas le manquer!

Même si le temps passe, le cœur des an-ciens habitants ne change pas.Alors pourquoi ne pas visiter pour re-cevoir les messages de générosités des gens au cœur de l’histoire de Québec? C’est une vieille capitale qui a regagnée la tranquillité après la saison touristique.

もうあっと言う間に年末です！またやってきました、クリスマスシーズン！子供達はプレゼントをたくさんもらって喜ぶ中、大人は財布の中身が減って悲しむシーズンですね。

さて、お子様をお持ちの方、Canada Post が提供している「サンタさんへの手紙サービス」をご存知でしたか？子供達は毎年サンタさんから贈られてくるプレゼントをわくわくどきどきしながらクリスマスを待ち構えていることでしょう。そんなお子様達に「サンタさんへ願いを直接伝えてみる？」と言うととても喜びますよ！主人が子供の頃には、義理の母が毎年してあげていたことだそうです。我が家では長女が２歳になった頃から始めました。長い間このサービスが多くの子供達の夢を膨らませ喜ばせてあげていたのにはびっくりしました。手紙には、好きなことを書かせてあげてください。自分が書いた絵やプレゼントに何が欲しいか、自分の願いや思いを書かせます。そして、封筒に入れてサンタさんに送ってください。すると・・・なんとサンタさんから返事が来ます！

Canada Post には毎年サンタさん宛ての手紙がたくさん届きます。１１万人以上のボランティアの方々のおかげでこの“Write to Santa Program”が成り立っているそうです。英語、又はフランス語で手紙を送ればちゃんと同じ言語で返事がきたり、なんと目の不自由なお子様達へもブレールで返事を送ってくれるそうです。そして、さすがにサンタさんも現代化してきまして、なんとウェブサイトからもメールを受け付けています！去年長女はメールを送り、返事が返ってきてとても喜んでいました！

Dear Santa

Time flew by, and it’s already the end of the year! The Christmas Season has ar-rived once again! While children are ex-cited for presents, adults feel blue as the contents of their wallets start to disap-pear!

Now, for readers with young children, have you heard of the “Write to Santa Pro-gram?” Every year, children are psyched and excited about what gifts Santa will bring. Why not ask them to write their wishes to Santa himself? They’ll be thrilled! My mother-in-law had done this every year for my husband when he was a child. So I began this tradition when my eldest turned two. I was very surprised at how long this service has been around for young children, helping their imagination and excitement grow.If you let your child(ren) write whatever they wish to write, draw pictures, create their own “wish list,” record their thoughts and dreams, and mail it to Santa in an en-velope... you can tell them to expect a re-sponse from Santa!

Every year, Canada Post receives millions of letters addressed to Santa. In fact, Can-ada Post has more than 11,000 volunteers who help the “Write to Santa Program,” and it is thanks to them that this service is still running. You can expect the response in either English or French, as well as in Braille for children who are blind. Santa is also up-to-date he accepts letters via the internet! Last year, my eldest sent a note to Santa through the net and was very happy when she received a response!

Le temps passe rapidement et c’est déjà la fin de l’année! Elle est arrivée encore une fois, la saison de Noël! Tandis que les enfants sont excités pour recevoir des cadeaux, les adultes se sentent tristes de voir leur portefeuille se vider!

Alors, pour ceux qui ont de jeunes enfants, avez-vous entendu parler du programme « Écris au père Noël »? À chaque année, les enfants sont impatients et excités de savoir ce que le père Noël va leur offrir. Alors pourquoi ne pas leur demander de lui écrire directement leurs pensées et souhaits! Les enfants seront captivés! J’ai commencé à faire ceci quand ma plus vieille avait 2 ans. Ma belle-mère l’avait fait à chaque année pour mon mari quand il était enfant. J’ai été très étonnée d’apprendre pendant combien de temps un tel service a été offert pour les jeunes enfants, leur permettant de réaliser leur rêve et se sentir heureux à chaque Noël. Donnez à vos enfants l’opportunité d’écri-re ce qu’ils veulent écrire. Laissez-les des-siner; faites une « liste-cadeaux »; notez leurs pensées et leurs rêves, et envoyez la lettre au père Noël. Et surtout... ne soyez pas surpris si vous recevez une réponse du père Noël lui-même!

À chaque année, Postes Canada reçoit des millions de lettres adressées au père Noël. En fait, Postes Canada a plus de 11 000 bénévoles qui aident avec le programme « Écris au père Noël », et c’est grâce à eux que ce service fonctionne toujours. Vous pouvez vous attendre à une réponse en anglais ou en français, aussi bien qu’en braille pour les enfants qui sont aveugles. Le père Nôel est également à jour avec la technologie, il accepte même des cour-riels! L’année dernière ma plus vieille lui a envoyé un courriel et était très heureuse d’avoir reçu une réponse!

私のキャベツ、あなたの遊び心

１２月１２日が「漢字の日」というのを御存知ですか？財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会が、１９９５年に制定しました。「いい字一字」が「1（いい）2（じ）1（いち）2（じ）」の語呂合わせになることにちなんでいるそうです。そして、毎年この日に、京都の清水寺で、その年の世相を象徴する「今年を表現する漢字」が発表されます。ちなみに、昨年の２００８年の漢字は「変」。２００５年から、「愛」「命」

「偽」「変」と続いてきました。さて、今年の漢字は何が選ばれるのか…。

世の中の流れから外れているかもしれないNICOの、個人的なお気に入りの漢字は「遊」。「遊ぶ」という言葉は、もともと、興のおもむくままに楽しむことを指し、楽器の演奏や舞踊、詩歌を作ることも、すべて「遊び」だったそうです。「遊んでばかりいないで宿題しなさい！」と言う時の「遊ぶ」はネガティブに使われていますが、たとえば車のハンドルの「遊び」の部分。「遊び心」と言う時の「遊び」。物事や気持ちに余裕があってこそ生まれてくる、楽しみを周囲と分かち合う「愛情」に置き換えられるのではないでしょうか。

chou（女性ならma chouchoute）」と表現します。実はNICOの大好きな言葉。

「お気に入り」という表現には、揺れ動く感情も、確固たる意志も、そしてなによりそうした自分のelementsを優しくハグする、あったかい「遊び」心が感じられるからです。キャベツというお野菜は、実はフランスではどこにでも転がっているような、ありふれた野菜。「ありふれた」「つまらない」という意味の慣用句にも使われる一方で、こうした特別の存在としても登場します。

紙一重の存在を輝かせる遊び心。そのあったかい遊び心を刺激し、刺激されるような、美味しいキャベツを目指して、来年も「COCO-NICOなるままに」を楽しく書き続けていきたいと思っています。皆様、今後ともどうぞ御贔屓に…。

Do you know that December 12th is “Day of Kanji or Chinese charac-ters”? The Japanese Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation established this day in 1995, using a play on words - “Ii ji ichi ji (Good character one char-acter)” or “Ii = 1, ji=2, ichi=1, ji=2 (12 gatsu 12 nichi).” Furthermore, every year Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto an-nounces the Kanji that will symbol-ize the phrase of life in the year. Last year “変: hen or change” was cho-sen. Since the year of 2005, “愛-ai or love,” “命: inochi or life,” “偽: gi or false” and “変: hen or change” ac-cordingly. Well, which Kanji will be selected for this year?

It may run off the rails of the society, but my personal favorite Kanji is “遊: yuu or play.” A word “遊ぶ: aso-bu or play” means “to play as you wish” originally, and it seems to included instrument performance, dance and poem creation too. “Aso-bu” in a phrase “Don’t play all the time! Do your homework!” is used negative-ly. However, “遊び: aso-bi or play” for car wheel, and for “遊び心: aso-bi gokoro or playful mind” are created when you have time to spare and your mind is free to wander. It can be replaced with “affection” when you share your happiness with around people. According to a playful site, “What’s in your brain?”, my brain is made of a bit of “愛: ai or affection” and “悩: nou or concern,” and a lot of “遊: yuu or playful mind!” You should try it! http://maker.usoko.net/nounai/

“My favorite” is “My cabbage or mon chouchou / ma chouchoute” in French. Actually it is my favorite phrase because I feel warm playful-ness in my mind “like hugs, flicker-ing warm emotions, determination, and elements of life that touch me gently. Indeed, cabbage is a very common vegetable and you can find cabbag-es everywhere in France. Although it is used for idiomatic phrases for “common” and “dull,” it is also used as a special meaning like “my favor-ite.”

Cabbage has a playful mind that has both sides of a coin. Like aiming to become a tasty cabbage that stimulates and is stimulated by warm playful mind, I would like to keep on writing “COCO-NICO as I am” happily this year, too. Please continue reading it...

Quel kanji sera sélectionné cette année...?

Fais tes devoirs ! » est utilisé de façon négative. Toutefois, « 遊び: abo-bi ou jouer » pour une roue de voiture, et « 遊び心: aso-bi gogoro ou esprit enjoué » sont créés pour dire que l’on a du temps libre et qu’on peut laisser notre esprit vagabonder. On peut le remplacer par le mot « affection » lorsque vous partagez votre joie avec les autres.Selon un site web rigolo, « Qu’avez-vous dans votre cerveau ? », mon cerveau est fait d’un peu de « 愛: ai ou affection » et de « 悩: nou ou souci », et beaucoup de « 遊: yuu ou esprit enjoué » ! « Mon préféré » peut être traduit par « Mon chou ou mon chouchou/ ma choucroute » en français. En fait, c’est mon expression préférée parce qu’elle me donne un sentiment d’enjouement chaleureux dans mon esprit, « comme une étreinte qui embrasse des émotions vacillantes, un esprit déterminé, et les éléments de la vie qui me touchent profondément. Le chou est certainement un légume très commun, car on peut le trouver partout en France. Bien que le nom soit utilisé pour des phrases idiomatiques décrites comme étant « communes et ennuyeuses », il est également utilisé pour évoquer « mon préféré ».

Le chou a un esprit joueur qui a les deux côtés de la médaille et une existence importante. Le but est de devenir un chou délicieux qui stimule et est stimulé par l’esprit enjoué chaleureux. 仕事運を上げようモントリオールの皆さん、お元気ですか。家相の総仕上げとして、いろんな運気を上げる方法を解説します。会社で頑張っているのに、なかなか認められない人のために、今回は仕事運を上げる方法です。仕事運に最も影響する方位は、北西と東です。北西は、上司や目上の人の方位で、この方位を大切にすると、仕事を認めてもらえたり、昇進のチャンスに恵まれます。東は、仕事に対するパワーと情報の方位ですから、この方位を大切にすると、仕事意欲がわき、情報に恵まれます。まず、家の北西と東をチェックしてみましょう。

This is a basic principle of Feng Shui. In Feng Shui, the direction which your desk faces is not important. The far left corner represents north-west and the right is east from where you sit. It’s beginning to look a lot like... Valentine’s Day! Ah, Christmas.

Time for picking out the perfect gift for the one you love and mak-ing romantic reservations for two. The time of year that couples love and singles love to hate. Wait a minute – that’s Valentine’s Day... isn’t it? Well, yes – if you’re in Canada. But I’m talking about Christmas Eve in Japan, arguably the most romantic night of the year. A taste of Japan I would savour during my first Christmas with Hiro.

On this particular December 24th, Hiro and I headed to our hotel of choice after a double date at a ritzy restaurant overlooking the city. The plan was to put our presents under the Christmas tree I had insisted we purchase and decorate together.When it finally came time to open the gifts, I approached mine with childlike anticipation. As the lid came off the narrow box in my hands, I stared in horror at the pink plastic toy sitting inside. Trying to hide my disappointment, I smiled stupidly and thanked Hiro for what I assumed must have been a typical gift a-la Japa-nese male. I continued to play the part of the satisfied girlfriend until Hiro stepped out to retrieve his forgotten cell phone, leaving me alone to stare at the pink toy in bewilderment. If it’s the thought that counts, I wondered, had he put any thought into my gift?

As Hiro re-entered the room, I looked up at my handsome boy-friend, but something sparkly in his hand immediately caught my eye. I looked down to see he was holding a small black box tied with a silver ribbon. My eyes must have widened in surprise be-cause Hiro let out a somewhat nervous laugh.“I tricked you,” he said with a mischievous grin on his face, and handed me the box. “Open it.”In shocked silence, I did as I was told. Inside was a delicate ring, its white-gold band decorated with tiny diamonds. “Wow,” I whis-pered, moved more by the thought that had gone into the sur-prise than the actual diamond ring. Hiro’s gift to me was a perfect blend of east meets west – romantic enough for Valentine’s Day, and definitely thoughtful enough for Christmas.And then I was jolted by a thought. Having read that Japanese men are often indirect in their marriage proposals, I asked: “Which finger is it for?”

Ça commence à ressembler drôlement à... la Saint-Valentin! Ah, Noël.

Un temps pour choisir le cadeau idéal pour celui qu'on aime et faire des réservations romantiques pour deux. Le jour de l'année que les couples adorent et les célibataires détestent. Attends un peu... mais c'est la St-Valentin ça... n'est-ce pas? Eh bien, oui... si l'on habite au Canada. Mais je suis en train de parler de la veille de Noël au Japon, certainement la soirée la plus romantique de l'année. Un petit plaisir japonais dont j'aurais goûté à mon premier Noël avec Hiro.

Ce 24 décembre en particulier, Hiro et moi sommes retournés à notre hôtel après un rendez-vous dans un luxueux restaurant avec vue sur la ville. Notre plan était de mettre nos cadeaux sous l'arbre de Noël. J’avais insisté pour en acheter un et nous l’avons décoré ensemble.Lorsque le temps est finalement venu d'ouvrir les cadeaux, je me suis approchée du mien avec une excitation enfantine. Une fois le cou-vercle retiré, j'ai regardé avec horreur le jouet rose qui se trouvait à l'intérieur. Essayant de cacher ma déception, j'ai souri stupidement et j'ai remercié Hiro pour ce que j'assumais être un cadeau typique d'un gars japonais.J'ai joué le rôle de la blonde satisfaite jusqu'au moment où Hiro est parti chercher le cellulaire qu'il avait oublié, me laissant seule à obser-ver le jouet rose avec perplexité. Si c'est l'intention qui compte, je me demandais : avait-il vraiment mis de la considération à mon cadeau?

Une fois Hiro revenu à la chambre, j’ai regardé mon formidable amou-reux et j'ai remarqué qu'il avait quelque chose de brillant dans ses mains. J'ai observé plus attentivement pour m’apercevoir qu'il avait une petite boite noire avec un ruban argenté. Mes yeux ont dû s’écar-quiller de surprise puisqu’Hiro s'est mis à rire nerveusement.« Je t'ai eu! », dit-il avec un sourire espiègle, et me donna la boîte. « Ouvre-la. »En silence, j'ai fait ce qu'il m'a dit. À l'intérieur se trouvait une fine ba-gue, avec une bande d'or blanche décorée de petits diamants. J'ai sou-piré un petit « wouaou », touchée par la manière qu'il avait organisé cette surprise bien plus que par la bague elle-même. Le cadeau de Hiro était un mélange parfait de l'occident avec l'orient - suffisamment romantique pour la St-Valentin, et définitivement bien réfléchi pour un cadeau de Noël.C'est alors qu'une pensée m'est venue en tête. J'avais lu que les hom-mes japonais étaient souvent indirects dans leurs demandes de ma-riage. J'ai donc demandé: « C'est pour quel doigt? »

恋人に完璧なプレゼントを用意し、二人のためにロマンティックな場所を予約する。カップルには一年の中でも最高のイベントだが、独り者にはつらい季節だ。ん？それはバレンタインのはずでは・・・？もちろんカナダではそうだろう。だが、ここで私が話しているのは「一年で一番ロマンティックな夜」であると言ってもよい日本のクリスマス・イブのことなのだ。私は、初めてヒロと過ごす日本のクリスマスを楽しみにしていた。

そしてついに12月24日、街を見下ろす豪華なレストランでダブルデートを楽しんだ私たちは、この日のために選んだホテルへと向かった。お互いに準備したプレゼントは、私がどうしてもと言って購入し、二人で飾りつけたクリスマス・ツリーの下に置くことになっていた。いよいよプレゼントを開ける時になり、私はわくわくしながら自分へのプレゼントを手に取った。薄い箱のふたが開き、中身が見えた瞬間、あまりの衝撃で私は動きが止まった。なんとピンクのプラスチックのおもちゃだったのだ。落胆を顔には出すまいと、私は大げさな笑顔でヒロにありがとうと言った。これが典型的な「プレゼント・ア・ラ・日本人男性」なのであろう。そのままハッピーな彼女の演技を続けていたが、置き忘れた携帯を取りに行くと言ってヒロが部屋を出て行ったため私は一人になり、改めてピンクのおもちゃをまじまじと見つめた。「プレゼントは込められた思いが大事」とよく言うが、これに一体ヒロのどんな思いが込められているというのか。

ヒロが部屋に戻ってきた。私は彼のハンサムな顔を見上げたが、すぐにその手の中に何かきらきらするものがあることに気がついた。よく見れば、銀色のリボンがついた小さな黒い箱である。驚きが顔に出ていたに違いない。ヒロが緊張気味に笑った。

「さっきのは冗談だよ。」いたずらっぽい笑みを浮かべてヒロは黒い箱を差し出した。

「開けて。」驚きで口も利けないまま、私は言われたとおりに箱を開けた。中には華奢な、小さなダイヤがちりばめられたホワイトゴールドの指輪が入っていた。私は小さな声でわぉ、と言った。ダイヤの指輪そのものよりも、このサプライズに込められたヒロからの思いに感動していた。彼のプレゼントは、東西文化の完璧な融合だった―バレンタインのロマンティックさと、クリスマスにふさわしい深い思いと。次の瞬間、ふとあることが私の頭に浮かんだ。日本の男性は曖昧なプロポーズをすることが多いと読んだことがあったのだ。

早いものでもうクリスマスの季節となりました。いつもは節約に励み安くておいしいもの探しをしているココモンですが、クリスマスだし一年頑張った自分にご褒美。ちょっとお高いけどおいしいという口コミをもとに取材してきました。救いなのは、ワイン持ち込みオーケーというところ。それくらいはちょっと節約しないと・・・。というわけで、やや予算オーバーかもしれませんが、リッチな気分を味わいつつ、綺麗に盛りつけられた美味しいお料理はいかがですか？フランス料理って量が少ないと思っていたけど、ここはプレート１つでお腹いっぱいになるくらい、量にも満足。暖かみを感じる優しい光に照らされて、ゆったりした気分でお料理を味わうと、少しずつ緊張感もほぐれ、会話もワインもすすみます。クリスマスディナーにおすすめですよ。

This year flew by so fast, and Christmas is in the air. Usually, we at Coco-Montreal strive to economize, always in search of cheap and delicious places to eat. But, since it’s Christmas, we decided to treat ourselves for a year of hard work. We went to check out a restaurant rumoured to be a bit pricey, but guaranteed to satisfy your palate. The upside of going to this restaurant is that you can bring your own wine. That’s one way to save some dollars... Although it may be somewhat over your budget too, why not indulge yourself in luxuriousness, and enjoy the delicate presentation and savoury flavours? When we imagine French cuisine, we might picture small, unfulfilling portions, but at this restaurant, one platter is satisfying enough to fill you up just enough.Enjoying your dinner in comfort under the relaxing warm lighting, you will feel your stress melt away, and the atmosphere is sure to enhance the taste of your wine and your conversation. We definitely recommend it for a special Christmas dinner!

C’est rapide, mais nous sommes déjà rendus dans le temps des fêtes. Coco Montréal a, comme toujours, recherché un endroit qui est à la fois économique et délicieux. Noël, c’est le temps de se gâter après une année d’effort. Même si c’est un peu onéreux, mes informations rassemblées par le bouche à oreille, disaient qu’il était délicieux. En guise d’accompagnement, nous pouvons emporter notre propre vin. Nous pouvons économiser un peu.... Sur cette note, ce restaurant est légèrement au dessus du budget moyen mais si vous vous sentez d’humeur chic, que diriez-vous d’un somptueux repas? Non seulement délicieux, mais joliment confectionné? Je croyais que les portions de la cuisine française étaient petites; cependant, dans ce restaurant vous pouvez manger à votre faim avec une assiette seulement. Les portions sont généreuses. L’ambiance est très reposante avec une luminosité accueillante. Nous pouvons savourer un repas dans une quiétude exceptionnelle. Toutes nos tensions se dissipent, que ce soit pour une simple conversation autour d’un vin ou toute autres raisons, je vous recommande ce restaurant ! Et encore plus pour votre souper de Noël !

Two thick slices of salmon at first seems to be a surprising amount, but the fresh tomato sauce makes it light on your taste buds, and you suddenly feel like you can devour it... and more.The sweet fried onions and the generous portion of goat cheese creates a harmony of flavours, and is a perfect match for your red wine! It was my first time to try “tapenade” (black olives, anchovies and ground capers mixed with olive oil – a paté from Southern France) and it was a delight.

À mon grand étonnement, ce plat est muni de deux filets de saumon épais, garni d’une sauce tomate rafraîchissante dont on ne se tanne pas de manger. Le goût sucré des oignons confits et la portion généreuse de fromage de chèvre forment une harmonie parfaite avec le vin rouge! C’était la première fois que je mangeais de la tapenade (pâté d’olives noires et d’anchois provenant du sud-ouest de la France) et c’était délicieux.

Corny (くだらない、ありきたりの）

Something that is corny is something that’s cliché, unoriginal, or old-fashioned. A long time ago, people living in rural areas would eat a lot of corn. People who lived in big cities thought that these people were kind of stupid, kind of unsophisticated, so they would call them corny.

この表現は、ダサイ、オリジナル性のない、古くさいという意味です。とうもろこし(Corn)という単語から来ています。北米にはとうもろこし畑がたくさんありますから、「田舎＝とうもろこし畑」というイメージが、都会の人にはあったのでしょうね。

Harp: “Why did the tomato blush?”Jessie: “I don’t know. Why?”Harp: “Because it saw the salad dressing.”Jessie: That is corny!Harp: And a little bit funny. Jessie: That’s because salad dressing is a kind of sauce that you put on a salad but dressing also means putting clothes on. Harp: Exactly so it’s corny. Jessie: Very corny but I like it. Harp: Me too.

”many”と “much”、 “lots of” と“a lot of”の違いを見てみましょう。

1. “lots of” と“a lot of”Native speaker の人たちが、“lots of” と言ってみたり“a lot of”と言って、不思議に思ったことはありますか？何が、違うんだろうと。実は、違いはないんです。まったく同じです。そして、”many”や“much”と比べると、使い方のルールは簡単です。もし、会話の最中にどれを使っていいか迷った際は、“lots of” や“a lot of”で、その場を乗り切る手もあります。では、“lots of” 、“a lot of”ですが、これらはどんな名詞について話すときにでも使えます例:“I have lots of friends, lots of money, and lots of free time.” (Not true.) “yes/no” questions: “Do you have a lot of friends?” 否定negativesセンテンス: “I don’t have a lot of problems.”

2. ”many”と “much”“lots of” と“a lot of”と同様に、”many”と “much”も量・数の多さなどを表現するもので名詞が後にきます。ただ、この名詞がちょっとネックなんです。Countable Nouns（数えられる名詞）、 Uncountable Nouns（数えられない名詞）という言葉を聞いたことがありますか？それによって、”many”を使うか “much”を使うか判断しなくてはいけません。日本語では、水でも、本でも数えられるか数えられないかによって、使い分けはしませんね。でも、残念ながら英語ではしなくてはいけません。そして、英語ではとても大事なのです。また、英語で複数形にできる単語は数えられる名詞と判断してもOKです。

3. ”many”と “much”の使い方ルール<Rule1>

Use “many” for countable nouns: many dogs, many cars, many glasses of water, many hours, many people, many sports, many dol-lars, many fish, many days.*“many”は数えられる名詞と使います。

Use “much” for uncountable nouns: Much snow, much rain, much water, much time, much money (English people can’t count money, only dollars, cents, pesos, yen etc.), much information, much happiness, much pain, much love.*“much”は数えられない名詞と使います。

<Rule2>Rule with HOW:With the question word, “how,” you must use “much” or “many.” You can’t say, “How a lot of money do you have?” You have to say, “How much money do you have?”* question word, “how”を使う表現の際は、“much” or “many”しか使えないんですね。

<Rule3>Extra strange rule:We almost never use “much” for positive sentences. It works with questions and nega-tives, but not with normal statements. For example: “How much money do you have?” and “I don’t have much money” are good sentences, but “I have much money” is incor-rect. *肯定文では、ほとんど“much”を使いません。質問文や否定文で使うことが多いですね。
