The microprocessor controlled coaxial cable stripping machine ST730 is designed to strip wires and coaxial cables up to 7 mm outer diameter and strip lengths up to 30 mm in up to 9 steps. Even single insulated wires can be processed accurately. The ST730 is capable of storing up to 99 programs. Cable parameters can easily be stored and recalled at any time. Following a brief summary of the machine features:
• The operations of the 9 stripping steps can be done in a single fixation. This increases the processing speed and saves time.
• High reproducibility of the strip length when properly handled.
• Different wire diameters can be processed without any mechanical settings.
• Stripping and corrective values can be directly set and stored.
• Any stored stripping parameters can be selected and will remain in memory even in the event of blade changes or power failures.
• The stripping diameters can be precisely adjusted with an accuracy of 1/100 mm.
• The ST730 is easy to operate and enables the user to be familiar with the process within a few minutes.
• The precision of all components together with the microprocessor control assure the highest process reproducibility.
• The RS 232 interface makes the ST730 compatible with various peripheral devices.

Electromagnetic Immunity (EMIElectromagnetic Immunity (EMIElectromagnetic Immunity (EMIElectromagnetic Immunity (EMI))))
Only specially designed cables must be used to make sure that the EMI requirements are fulfilled and thus ensuring the reduction of interference. In addition, the interface connectors (D-Sub) have to be properly fastened.

Check the set mains voltage on the unit and change if necessary following the instructions on page 11.
• Place the ST730 onto a firm and level bench.
• Remove the safety cover (2) by removing screws (3) (Fig. 2).
• Remove the foam (1) between the jaws (4) and the stripping head (5).
• Replace the safety cover (2) and fasten screws (3) (Fig. 2).
• Place the ST730 on a bench so that its front edge is flush with the edge of the bench. This way the stripping debris can fall into a waste basket.
• Plug in the power cord.

TestingTestingTestingTesting of Functionality of Functionality of Functionality of Functionality Provided with the ST730 are two cable samples with different insulation thicknesses. One end of each cable was stripped with the machine for testing at the factory. The respective stripping values are stored in programs C01, C02, C03 (for the thinner cable) and C04 (for the thicker cable). The stripping quality of the ST730 can be tested as follows: • Select cable No. 1 ---- ----
• Place the thinner sample cable with the non-stripped end through the jaws (4) until it touches the
trigger plate (9). As soon as the cable touches the plate the stripping process is initiated based on the data set at the factory.
• The thin sample cable can be stripped applying different stripping sequences; for this purpose
press the button sequence C02 or C03. • Proceed with processing of the thicker cable, by selecting C04 in the same manner as described
above.

Cables with a hard outer insulation, strong shielding or soft dielectric can potentially be more difficult to process. In order to achieve high processing quality, it can be advantageous to adapt the feed rate and/or rotating time. This optimization can be programmed for all stripping steps (9) individually. When no values are being programmed, the following values are automatically set as default parameters for standard cables:

As a standard the centralizers are designed for rotation to the left, ccw. Most cables can be processed with this standard setting.
Changing the rotational direction to clockwise/right is suitable when processing wires with twisted strands. In this case special centralizers must be installed! The centering of the cable can only be ensured when using the centralizers dedicated for the direction of rotation.
Within a program the rotation rotation rotation rotational directional directional directional direction must be set the same for all stepsthe same for all stepsthe same for all stepsthe same for all steps. Before taking any further steps, check the following points: • Fuses are OK • The mains cable is plugged in • The main switch is turned to ON • Program No./Step selected match the desired wire/cable • The grippers are free of debris • The centralizers move freely • The stripping blades are in good condition In case the stripping quality is unsatisfactory please check the following settings: • Stripping blades (refer to centering of the stripping blades, page 28) • Centralizers (refer to centering of the centralizers, page 32) • Grippers (refer to centering of the grippers using the centering device, page 36) • Trigger contact (refer to adjusting the trigger contact, page 39) If a malfunction cannot be eliminated, refer to the troubleshooting checklist below (page 48). Should you not be able to take remedial action yourself, please contact your service partner or the manufacturer who can provide advice from trained experts. Describe the failure you have encountered as accurately as possible and try to pinpoint the location of the fault.
