Welsh Cycling is the national governing body for cycling in Wales. We run our coach education programme in line with British Cycling, using British Cycling courses and tutors. Welsh Cycling supplements this with our own coaching workshops and sessions delivered in association with Sport Wales and Disability Wales.

Effective coaching is at the heart of cycling performance at every level of the sport. Whether you want to coach core bike-handling skills to future generations of riders, expand your cycling knowledge to benefit your local club or have aspirations to mentor Great Britain’s elite cyclists, British Cycling has a coaching course that will help you to achieve your goals.

In order to provide a comprehensive learning process, British Cycling coaching courses are delivered via a combination of contact time, written coursework, online learning and practical assessment.

Welsh Cycling has created a Coach Development Pathway. The core elements of the programme is the British Cycling Coach Education courses, and is supplemented by Welsh Cycling’s Continuous Professional Development workshops. As you go through the pages, you will find further information available on each specific course.

Welsh Cycling are committed to developing the coaching workforce which exists in Wales. In order to have a high performing workforce we will be offering regional workshops for coaches in order to develop their skills. The core of each workshop will be the same, focusing on what is “good” coaching and how it manifests itself in practice with the overriding aim of improving rider performance. There may be variation in each area as the delivererswillbeflexibletotheneedsofthegroup.

Disability Inclusion TrainingThis is an external workshop delivered by tutors from Disability Sport Wales. The overall aim of this workshop is to ensure that disabled people get great quality coaching and opportunity within your sport. The six hour session combines a theory with a practical – which really does help to apply information relating to the Sports Inclusion Model and STEPS to an active environment which will give you ideas about how to develop and adapt skill-based activities which are relevant to your sport.

Within the workshop you will cover:• Perceptions and Experiences• Good coaching practice and the implications• Challenges to and solutions for participation• Key points around legislation relating to coaching and volunteering in sport•DisabilitySportpathwaysandclassification• Where to go for further help and guidance• The application of this to a practical environment

Chimp Management WorkshopThis program of six workshops is based on the working of Doctor Steven Peters.
