EditorialEditorialEditorialur magazine, Excelsior, mirrors our school – its aims and Oobjectives. It also highlights events, activities, academic

progress and adventure. In this edition we have tried to capture

this year’s excitement and achievements. I do hope that the

magazine encourages many more students to use it as a platform

to express their creativity.

Patience, will power, determination, courage and confidence are

the sterling qualities of the mind which are indispensable in the

struggle of life. Lives of great people are nothing but success

stories, where it has been proved that sooner or later, the man who

wins, is the man who thinks he can. So have a positive attitude, as

by being an optimist, you can turn scars into stars and thereby win

laurels in life!

The cover design conveys the message of the Divine Hand that

ultimately moulds our destinies. It carries with it the lesson of the

infinite love and infinite care that we enjoy, in the safe hands of the

Almighty.

My thanks are due to the Principal, Vice Principals, Editorial

Board, Students and Teachers who have been of immense help in

breathing life into these pages.

Warm Regards to all readers...

I have heard in many a

“Down Memory Lane”

The words, “I remember

My first day in school,

Clasping my mother’s hand,

Hiding behind her sari

With tears rolling down my cheeks

Like the pouring monsoon rain.”

But I, I do not remember that day

And now I am grateful that I don’t

I am happy that I don’t remember those days

When I used to wake up

Crying about going to school

I only remember the mornings

When I wake up with the words

“Yey! There is school today.”

My school. My Alma Mater

Gave me many beautiful moments

For which I would pay anything

To re-live it again

Memories that would be cherished

Forever and ever

My school gave me wonderful teachers

Teachers who love us with all their heart

Teachers, who guide us through the lighted path

Teachers who are our candles

Our light

Our guiding stars

Teachers who taught us

What responsibility is

What dedication is

Teachers who gave us

Hope and inspiration

Teachers whom we would respect

Forever and ever

My school, my Alma Mater

Gave me wonderful friends

Friends, who are as precious as diamonds

Friends, who are beautiful flowers

That form a garden in my mind

Friends who taught me the depth of friendship

Friends who showed me

ADIEU MY SCHOOLADIEU MY SCHOOLWhat love is

What care is

My school has imprinted in my mind

Long lasting memories

Joys and laughter

Every nook and corner of my school

And the corridors that echo

Our laughter and shouts

Fill me with nostalgia

And now the time has come

To bid adieu to my Alma Mater

The end of my 12 years

In paradise

My heart becomes laden with sorrow

When I think of that day

When we go out from

The safe arms

The protective barrier

of our Alma Mater

And when I think

Of joyous and wonderful moments

Of countable days left for us

To sit in the class

To stand and gossip in the corridors

To watch the school assemblies

To hang out in front of the canteen

And above all

To hold our heads high

Wearing our wonderful

Blues and Whites

With tears in my eyes

And the courage given by this

Saraswathi Temple

To face the big outside world

Holding CNS’ motto

“Christ Nagar stands for excellence”

I bid adieu to my school

My heaven

My dear Christ Nagar.

GET RID OF FEAR

Try to get rid of fear with the help of knowledge. Fear is darkness of mind and it can be removed by lighting the candle of knowledge. The main reason behind fear is lack of courage and confidence. If we believe in our power and abilities, we can surely get rid of fear. Fear can also be chased away by avoiding nervousness and worry. If we have strong faith in the Creator, we will not be affected by fear and worry.

It does not matter what kind of fear you are facing. Whatever the fear, the principle to overcome it is the same: face it courageously. The fear of failure should not stop you from doing something meaningful in life.

The students of our school paid a visit to Sri Pattom Thanupillai Memorial UP School, Kuravankonam on 06 June, 2013 and gave away books, bags, pencil boxes, umbrellas and sweets. Some of our children entertained them. It was a memorable occasion for all concerned.

HAPPINESS IN GIVING

As part of our Charity Programme, we constructed a house for a member of our non-teaching staff. On 13 September, Mr Y Augustine, husband of the beneficiary, received the key of the house.

Christ Nagar Hr Sec. School financed the renovation of a house at Nanthencode. The NCC cadets visited the family on 11 November, 2013. As part of their Social Service activities, the NCC cadets supported the family in the renovation of their house.

On 13 September, 2013 we celebrated Onam with the less fortunate children of Childline who were our guests for the day. Childline is an agency that traces and rescues children from all over India and unites them with their families. Students of Class XI were given the responsibility of going shopping for dresses for 17 such children. This was a rare opportunity for our students to feel a sense of caring and to learn life skills.

As part of Charity Drive, on 19 December, 2013, the girls of Class XI spent a day with the inmates of the Old Age Home for Women, Poojapura, Trivandrum. They shared the joy of Christmas by conducting various programmes, sharing a meal and offering gifts to the inmates.
