Christine Proudfoot’s husband, Col. R. M. Proudfoot, USMC, Ret. wanted a significant way to honor her. His presentation of a $100,000 gift to the Copper Mountain College Foundation met the 20% goal of total project cost in consideration for a naming opportunity. Based on recommendations from the Foundation’s Executive Director, Sandy Smith, and College Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Wagner, the Board of Trustees, in a unanimous decision, acted to name the yet completed activity center: “Christine Proudfoot Student Activity Center.” Last year, the Foundation undertook a $500,000 major gifts campaign to build a Student Activity Center on the CMC campus. With this gift, the campaign will be halfway to the goal of a dedicated gathering place for students. Copper Mountain College Foundation’s mission is to maximize educational opportunities here at Copper Mountain College. That takes many forms, including a few of our standing programs: Alert U, MBTA bus passes, the Alumni Association, and this publication, the CMC Times. Alert U is the emergency text notification program on campus. To sign up, go to www.cmccd.edu/Alert-U and enter your cell number. You will receive texts when the campus is closed due to an emergency, weather or otherwise, or if there is a security issue on campus. Additionally, the Foundation subsidizes bus transportation each year so that students can ride the MBTA for twenty-five cents each way. Moreover, the Foundation administers the CMC Alumni Association. Monthly e-newsletters keep all former students, graduates, family, and friends informed of activities and events at CMC. This newsletter, the CMC Times is published by the Foundation and its generous donors. This truly is the tip of the iceberg; visit www.cmccd.edu/Foundation for more Information or stop by the Foundation Office in Phase 3. - Sandy Smith
