President, Wendy Learn, called the meeting to order at 6:32 pm. In attendance were:

All other officers and committee chairs were absent.

Quorum Certification A Quorum was established.

Approval of MinutesWendy Learn asked for motion to approve minutes as they stand; Sara Gilliam made motion; Liz Hebden seconded; motion approved for minutes to stand as they are. The minutes from the November 17, 2015 PTA Board Meeting were approved. They will be available on the CHES PTA Website.

Officer ReportsPresident’s Report: Wendy Learn- Thank you to everyone who helped with and participated in Holiday House this past weekend! Positive feedback was received from families, etc. -Inclusive Schools Week in progress- Student Service Learning Cabinet collected coats- drive was successful- thank you to Puritan Cleaners-“Favorite things” lists for teachers are available online- Wendy Learn mentioned the possibility of making these password protected in order to protect teachers’ privacy; mention of making it accessible only on class Shutterfly sites (although some classes don’t have them); Sara Gilliam mentioned clarifying to staff in advance that the lists would be published online and giving them opportunity to edit/opt-out; Mrs. Pierpont suggested emailing teachers to ask anyone who is uncomfortable with sharing the info online to let us know ASAP-CHES Snow Fun Day on Thursday, December 17- Pajama day, snow songs, 21 minutes snowman movie-Happy Holidays!

Treasurer’s Report: Karin Wallace -Fundraising- pizza party for best-selling class- Taken pre-orders for spirit wear (some extra ordered for stock)-Family Nights Out- received check from Papa John’s- brought in almost $1500 ($1, 476.65)-Numbers from Holiday House are still being worked out; Silent Auction exceeded their income budget by about $800- awesome!-Paid for some curriculum enrichment for Kindergarten printing-Not sure where to put money for nametags for kickball (Family Fun Fitness Fridays)- currently in Afterschool Enrichment; this consumes their entire budget for spending; we will need to increase this budget-Veterans Day food paid for under hospitality; more reimbursement requests probably coming-Conference for Ms. Shoop paid for (by combining funds from two different areas- Comrades and Staff Development)-Teachers- please remind colleagues to turn in teacher vouchers (several are still outstanding)-dues paid to VA PTA, including National PTA, also CCCPTA-Returned broken Zigis-Replaced stakes for vinyl banners-Cash box expenses: same in/same out

Principal’s Report: Ms. Brenda Carle-Holiday House was excellent!-Inclusive Schools week is amazing-Library Night coming up Thursday, January 21- Paws to Read will be here! First come, first serve basis- 20 minutes to read to a puppy; teachers from different grade levels will be in cafeteria; games and book check-out in library; flyer will go home in early January-PTA has been very supportive of our special education departments- thank you to Comrades!-PTA has sponsored 4 teachers and Ms. Carle to attend Kagan training- strategies on engaging students, cooperative learning, etc.- thank you!-Still not sure who principal will be next year

Committee Reports: -Boxtops- we are number 3 in the state and number 1 in our area! -Student directories- they are working- Wendy Learn asked for feedback; some members present shared concerns (people forgetting to confirm entry, how to find it, etc.)-Comrades- very happy with turnout, daily drawings for the “I am unique because. . .” program; will be looking for yard sale participants-Holiday House- a lot of work, but fun; thank you to dads and all other volunteers!-Misteltoe Market- a lot of positive feedback; sand art, wands, etc. were very well received; seemed to go very smoothly-Bylaws- need to approve bylaws; Wendy Learn requested motion to approve bylaws- Liz Hebden motioned; Mrs. Pierpont seconded; all were in favor; bylaws approved for submission to Virginia PTA State Office-Advocacy- PTA Day at General Assembly is February 1; at January 11 county PTA meeting, there will be a Superintendent search discussion during 6:00 hour; more details to come-Green Committee- Connect the Dots- have not heard back yet; Wendy Learn meeting with Ally Purdy next week regarding terracycling; Wendy Learn will report back-Movie Night- January 15-We will be showing Inside Out; Karin in process of getting form ready for pizza pre-order (Papa Johns); Goochland Drive-In donating movie pack for raffle; poster for bulletin board ordered-WatchDOGS- Mike Karabinos will be talking to other donut places in preparation for Donuts for Dads; Mrs. Jones is very happy to have extra help during bike unit

New Business

- Mrs. Pierpont- mentioned concern about new bookkeeping procedures that need to begin at start of 2016; asking for suggestions for book fair; next book fair is during week of Lucky Clover 5K; some discussion ensued- Wendy Carter asked about 5th grade planning committee and fundraising; members talked about how Curriculum Enrichment funds have been used to help in the past; Sara Gilliam suggested talking to lead 5th grade teacher (Mrs. Baker)

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, January 20, at 6:30 pm in the CHES library.
