I hope your holiday season was restful and stress-free…a break from your normal, busy pace. I can’t believe it’s already time to start thinking about the Overnighter, the Winter Carnival and of course, the “Pizza” Iron Chef Clinic. The break didn’t last long, did it? We do have one new event this year that I’m looking forward to in February. Paint and Sip events seem to be very popular so we have scheduled a 4-H version of sipping coffee and painting. The event will be held on February 20 th here at the Bantam Ride gym. You will have 2 painting options: a horse or a spring scene. The profits will benefit the Saddle Horse Subcommittee (see flyer for more details). Thanks to the clubs who represented 4-H in the holiday parades in the area. Advisors: bring a list of names of members who participated in the parade and they will get a J-Fit bead for 2016. See the J-Fit flyer for more details. OHIO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE LIFTS BIRD EXHIBITION BAN…With no confirmed cases in Ohio and no immediate threat of a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza outbreak, Ohio Agriculture Director, David T. Daniels and State Veterinarian, Dr. Tony Forshey, as of December 17th, rescinded the order prohibiting bird shows in Ohio. Officials urge poultry and bird owners, however to remain vigilant and cautious in order to protect the health of their flocks during migration seasons. Please see the department’s fact sheet on precautions that can be done to prevent the spread of avian flu at:

www.agri.ohio.gov/divs/ai/docs/Fact%20Sheet%20-%20Avian%20Influenza%20and%20Bird%20Exhibitions.pdf.

One of the ways avian influenza spreads is by direct contact with contaminated materials coming from other infected birds. Exhibitions, auctions and swap meets where birds are co-mingling pose a high risk of unintentionally spreading disease. While the intention is to allow bird exhibitions to be held in 2016, an outbreak in Ohio or nearby states may require the reinstatement or even an extension of the ban.

4-H Camp Piedmont Dedicated Brick Campaign…This is your opportunity to give a forever gift to Camp Piedmont. You can dedicate a person or group on a brick that will be placed on a stairway or walkway in a prominent location at the camp. The cost of each brick is $100.00. Each brick can contain fourteen characters for each line with up to three lines for engraving.

If you are interested, please call the Extension Office for the order form. Proceeds will be used for facility improvements and programs.

STATEWIDE TEEN CAMP PLANNED AT KELLEY’S ISLAND 4-H CAMP FROM JUNE 8-9, 2016.

If you think you would be interested in attending this camp, please call the office and let Janine know. More information about this camp will be released in the near future.
