Law and governance for sustainable use of forests in Africa presents crucial challenges: multi-level forest and land gov-ernance and accountability; forest, water and land rights; law and low-carbon investment in sustainable land use. Solu-tions must be tailored specifically to each legal system, country and region, but lessons learned can be shared, shaping African, European and global climate policy. On the eve of the UN FCCC CoP 19, this symposium opens a forum for expert dialogue and exchange, defining the new policy, law and governance agenda in this important field.
