The ROSARY…and God Bless the USA…
Over the Fourth of July weekend, you will almost certainly hear Lee Greenwood performing his song God Bless the USA. For most of us, we stop, perk up, and get goose bumps as we listen. Greenwood wrote and first released the song back in 1984. Quoting him, “I called my producer and said I have a real need to do this. I’ve always wanted to write a song about America, and I said, we just need to be more united.” The popularity of the song skyrocketed
after September 11th. Quoting Lee again, “It just makes me really proud that I’ve done something for my country and for my family. It’s my family’s heritage.” The lyrics are beautiful to read as we celebrate the Fourth of July. SING ALONG. If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife, I’d thank my lucky stars to be livin’ here today, ‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away…… And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free, And I won’t forget those who died, who gave that right to me, And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today, ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land…GOD BLESS THE USA.Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.

Ministry Reflections on the Great Commission & the Great Commandment
We continue sharing the responses of ministry groups to the posed questions. A running list of published reflections can be found on our website under LATEST NEWS.PARISH LIFE
Girl Scouts
1. How does this committee or group respond to the Great Commission, the Great Commandment and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy in our activities and outreach?
We do several service projects each year. We help send care packages to service persons, have helped out Heartbeats, the baby pantry in Hebron, and the women’s shelter, and made Easter baskets for assisted living homes. We also donate Girl Scout cookies to the St. Vincent food pantry every year, as well as the military.
2. How is prayer an important component of our meeting time together?
We pray during the flag ceremony at every meeting, and we pray before snack at every meeting. We also pray as part of the work we do on religious awards the girls are working towards earning. We do a small religious award every year, and a larger one every other year. The larger awards are the ones that the girls get from Bishop Campbell at Scout Mass that is held every year. Since the classes at school made up their own prayer this year, we did the same at our last meeting.
3. How do our activities/programs address the needs of our parish? Our group addresses the needs of our parish by helping our girls to learn and grow as better leaders. They learn new things by trying them out, and now our girls are starting to plan more of their own meetings. We are helping to make stronger, more confident, Catholic young women.
4. How do our activities/programs address the needs of those outside our parish?
We help those outside of the parish through service projects, and the girls in our group are leaders in other groups outside of the parish.
5. Do we have enough people in our committee/group to accomplish our goal?
If we had another leader, we could have more girls in our group, but I’m not sure, given the enrollment of the school, if there are a lot of other girls interested.
6. Are there activities or programs we sponsor which no longer seem to be effective or address current needs?
If there are, we are not aware of them.7. Are there new needs in our parish we would like to address?
How might we do that?We would like to be able to have our group help out other groups in the parish, but we haven’t been able to work that out. An example would be that the girls earned an award about gardening, so we could have helped out those that do the gardening for the grounds. Our time doesn’t always match up with the other groups or people, so we understand but we are trying to help out others where we can.
